IRENE (RUMNEY) COOMBS

DEXTER - Irene R. Coombs, 83, died January 17, 2015 at a Dexter Health Care facility. She was born June 27, 1931 in Penobscot, a daughter of Harry and Vivian (Witham) Rumney. She was a member of several Episcopal congregations. After lovingly raising her family Irene went to beauty school to become a licensed hairdresser. She was a gourmet cook, enjoyed feeding the birds and made custom built birdhouses. Irene and Edward traveled extensively after retirement.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward M. Coombs of Dexter; a son, Edward G. Coombs of Middleton, RI; a daughter, Diane and husband James Bartlett of Dexter; 2 brothers, John Rumney of Orrington, and Kenneth Rumney of Standish; 4 grandsons, James and wife Teri Hatch of Bangor, Matthew and wife Stacy Hatch of Pittsfield, Daniel and wife Susan Bartlett of Davenport, Iowa, and Joseph Bartlett of Newport; 6 great grandchildren, Shauna, Moriah, Akeem, Jonathan, Eme-lyn, and Madelyn.
There will be no services at this time. A graveside funeral and committal service will be scheduled in the spring at the Castine cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal, Dexter. Those who wish may leave an online guest register at www.CrosbyNeal.com.

JEAN C. NICHOLS

HARTLAND - Jean (Jeannie) Nichols, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2015 at a hospital in Louisville, Kentucky with her son Brady, daughter-in-law Angie and grandson Kevin, by her side.
Jeannie was born in Hartland to Clarence (Eugene) and Eleanor Nichols on May 6, 1951 the oldest of three children. Jeannie was lovingly nurtured and raised primarily by her grandparents, Hermon and Evelyn Nichols. She was educated in St. Albans schools graduating from Nokomis Regional High School in June 1969.
As a young girl Jeannie worked at Scott-Webb Hospital, in the kitchen and then as a candy striper. After finishing high school Jeannie set off for Washington D.C., where she worked and earned her experience as an administrative assistant. Returning home to work at Scott-Webb Hospital, and for various Doctors office’s in the Pittsfield area.
In the early 90’s Jeannie moved to Kentucky to be near her son and his family. She began working as a manager for hotels, and then spent the next 10 years as a medical secretary for the hospital in Madisonville, Kentucky.
Jeannie was a great student who absorbed lessons easily. Her independent spirit, was her strength through her many illnesses, and life’s challenges, and her family was very important to her. She made friends easily, and made sure that her lifelong friends were always a part of her life.
She was predeceased by her grandparents and her parents.
She is survived by her son Brady Brooks and wife Angie, and grandson Kevin, sister Pam Nichols and brother James Nichols, and by aunts and uncles, Lorraine and Wayne Neal and Harvey and Kathy Nichols, cousins Sheila Neal and daughter Tasha, and Linda Neal and children Michael and Brittany, and cousins Staci, Traci, Travis and Shannon Nichols. She will be missed by all of her family and friends, including special friends Dina Armstrong and Barbara Nutter.
A graveside service will be held in the summer at Pine Grove Cemetary in Hartland, Maine.

FRANK WINFIELD HOLT, SR.

CLINTON - Frank W. Holt, Sr., 85, passed away January 14, 2015 in Pittsfield from a heart attack. He was born in Clinton on September 3, 1929 to Abbie and Elwin Holt, Sr.. Frank was one of nine children, Alice Holt, John Holt, Ralph Holt, Rose Judkins, Ila Achilli, Bernice Tuttle, Elwin Holt, Sr., and Howard Holt. He is survived by his five children, Ila Libby, Ann Holt, Frank Holt, Jr., Leroy Holt, Ezra Holt as well as ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and wife Vesta (Thompson) Holt.
Frank quit school at sixteen and went to work at The Diamond National in Oakland until he was twenty-one, when he enlisted in the army in 1950 and spent time in Okinawa. After returning home, he married Arlene Frances Brown on June 15, 1953. He worked for the Norwock Shoe Company until he and Arlene became self-employed as custom butchers, building a U.S.D.A Meat Plant, until he retired in 1990.
In his spare time, he joined The Joseph R. Sanford V.F.W. Post #3198 in 1969 where he served as Junior Vice-Commander and became a Life Time Member in 1970, Commander in 1971, and served on all the Chairs for District 5 as well as State Surgeon for two years. Frank enjoyed cribbage and was in many tournaments, along with teaching his granddaughters how to play chess. He also loved bowling and was on many bowling leagues.
Later Frank joined the Pittsfield Seniors Club, where he met Vesta Thompson. They married August 27, 2007 at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Waterville, where they attended. They lived together in Pittsfield where he passed.

PAULINE S. PAINE

“Newport’s Oldest Citizen”
NEWPORT - Pauline S. Paine, 103, passed peacefully in the Lord’s arms January 18, 2015. She was born February 14, 1911, in Woodland, Washington County, one of six children to Randall and Janie (Shirley) Ewing. Polly lived most of her younger years in Millinocket with her uncle and aunt John and “Minnie” McMann. She graduated from Stearns High School in Millinocket and from Presque Isle Normal School (Teacher’s college). Polly taught in a one room school house in Chester. She married Lyndall Paine and together ran IGA stores in Lincoln and Mattawamkeag. They moved to Newport in December 1946 and worked together in real estate until retirement.
She was the oldest member of the Peoples United Methodist Church, where for many years she enjoyed working at the annual antique show and making chicken pies. Larry Gray remembered her as the official “gravy stirrer”. She also enjoyed the children, teaching Sunday School for many years.
“Grammy Polly” was very proud of her 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Paine) Hawthorne; granddaughters Lynn Malynowski and Kim Miller; grandsons, Mike and Kelly Hawthorne; great grandchildren, Ben, Jacob and Michaela Hawthorne; daughter in law Clis Paine and her daughters Sandy Buckland and Sharon O’Leary; 1 brother, Thomas Ewing; several nieces and nephews.
Pauline was predeceased by her husband Lyndall Paine, stepson Malcolm Paine, brothers Ken, Norman, and Archie, and sister, Myrtle Ewing.
A memorial service was held at 11 AM on Friday, January 23rd, at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main Street, Newport, with the Rev. Ellen Bridge officiating. Interment will be in the Millinocket cemetery in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Newport Food Bank, 26 High Street, Newport, ME 04953. EUGENE C. JOHNDRO

ST. ALBANS - Eugene C. Johndro, 77, died January 8, 2015 at his residence. He was born May 27, 1937 in Charleston, a son of Edmund and Alta (Barnes) Johndro. He graduated and served in the U.S. A.F. as an M.P. in the occupation forces of Germany. Eugene retired after nearly 35 years at the Dexter Shoe Company.
He is survived by his wife Lotte of St. Albans; 3 sons, Ralph and wife Amy of Maysville, GA, Allen of St. Albans, and Thomas Johndro of FL; a brother, Richard and wife Glenda Johndro of Milford; 5 sisters, Dorothy St. Pierre of CT, Isabelle McKeon of TX, Jeanette Martin and Charlene Powell, both of Dexter; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Eugene was predeceased by siblings Robert, Percy and Leona Johndro.
Funeral services were held at 1 PM on Tuesday, January 13th, at Crosby & Neal Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna, with th Rev. Tim Curtis officiating. Friends called at the funeral home from 10 to noon Tuesday at the chapel. Spring burial will be in the Maloon cemetery, St. Albans.

WINTHROP P. PERKINS

PALMYRA - Winthrop P. Perkins, 72, died peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2015, in Pittsfield.
He was born on August 12, 1942, in Hartland, Maine, the son of Robert and Henrietta (Goforth) Perkins. He graduated from Hartland Academy and married Donna Knight. They shared 51 years of marriage.
Winkie was known for his hard work ethic. He worked for the local shoe shops and also was a woodsman. He and his wife were foster parents for several years and enjoyed doing any fundraisers that would benefit the children.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to his friends, Kendall Davis and Nate Foss, for their friendship, kindness and willingness to help Winky and the family during his illness.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Perkins of Palmyra; children, Cheryl Simpson and husband, Steven, of Hartland, Dennis Perkins and wife, Billie, of Palmyra and Karen Ogdon and husband, Ken, of Dexter; four grandchildren, Raynold, Jackie, Renee and Mikayla; seven great grandchildren, Angel, Krystel, Adam, Jakeup, Tripp, Shawn and Sam; two brothers, George Perkins and wife, Beverly, of Palmyra and Eddie Perkins of St. Albans; sister, Charlene Leighton of Florida; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents.
A private graveside committal will be held in the spring at the Maloon cemetery, Grant Road, St. Albans.

CHELSEY VARNEY GRINDELL

APPLE VALLEY, CA & GUILFORD, ME - Chelsey Varney Grindell, the patriarch of the Grindell family went to be with our Lord January 3rd, 2015.
He was born to Earl and Vivian Grindell in 1936 at Lambert Lake, Maine, the oldest of seven children. While in college he was a standout athlete in Basketball, Track, and Cross Country, leading his team to state titles and eventually the national stage. He graduated from Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford, ME and the University of Maine in Orono. He completed the ROTC program entering the US Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. His sense of patriotism defined his adult life where he went on to earn the rank of Full Bird Colonel in the United States Army. Chelsey married his high school sweetheart Ruth Ellen (Bridges) Grindell and while serving his country raised a family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth and four children: Deborah Grafton and husband Brian, Judy Frazier and husband John, Earl Scott Grindell and wife Beatrice, and Cheryl Rains. He has six grandchildren, Jennifer Garcia, Danielle Romain, Chelsey Loop, Lacey Andrews, Logan Rains and Chase Grindell, as well as six great grandchildren, Ryder and Zane Romain, Broxton and Daltynn Loop and Noah and Kinsley Andrews. Chelsey had six siblings, three of which predeceased him, brothers Laurice and David Grindell and sister Donna Horvath. He is survived by three other siblings, brother Royd Grindell, sisters Diana Szymaszek and Darlene Winsor.
During Chelsey’s military career he was stationed in Georgia, Italy, New Jersey, Hawaii, Korea, and California where he and Ruth ended up retiring. During his retirement he worked his golf handicap down into the single digits several times. Chelsey and Ruth traveled and played all over the world including Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, Scotland, Ireland, England, and many of the 50 United States courses including one tee time at midnight during the summer solstice in Alaska.
Chelsey was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a cub scout pack master and attended countless plays, ball games, races, recitals, award ceremonies, and several weddings. He will be honored by his friends and family January 20th, 2015 at 9:30 AM at the Arlington Mortuary, 9645 Magnolia Ave, Riverside. Interment follows at The Riverside National cemetery at 11:30 AM in a Military Committal Ceremony.

ADRIAN E. BADGER

ENTERPRISE, AL & HARTLAND, ME - First Sergeant (US Army, Retired) Adrian E. Badger of Enterprise, AL passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at his residence while surrounded by his family. He was 73. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 12, 2015 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Mynatt and Reverend Jim Duhaime officiating. Burial followed in Meadowlawn cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing. The family received friends at the church Monday beginning at 12 PM and continued until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 Alberta Street, Enterprise, AL 36330 or to Dayspring Hospice, PO Box 311246, Enterprise, AL 36331. Adrian was born August 1, 1941 in Hartland, Maine to Halver Leslie Badger and the late Maxine Ruth Tapley Badger. He graduated from MCI of Pittsfield, Maine, and the Army Aviation Technical College of Ozark, and additionally attended Troy State University for three years. He was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was also a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Stephen W. Lints; 2 uncles: Keith Tapley and Reverend Burt Tapley; his parents-in-law, Roy and Nellie Saum; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Badger. Survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Sherrie Badger of Enterprise; 3 sons: Christopher Badger (Judi) of Enterprise, Master Sergeant (US Air Force, retired) Joseph Badger of Oxford, AL and Staff Sergeant (US Army National Guard) John Badger (Jennifer) of Enterprise; his father, Halver Leslie Badger; 2 daughters: Cathy Lints (Butch) of Daleville, Shanon Badger (Henrik) of Denmark; 3 brothers: Rodrick Badger of Hartland, ME, Keith Badger (Brenda) of Hartland, ME and Kermit Badger (Darlene) of St. Albans, ME; 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. ADA M. BRAGG-FRASER

NEWPORT - Ada M. Bragg-Fraser, 76, went home to be with the Lord on December 31st, 2014 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by her children. She was born in Caribou on September 18th, 1938, the daughter of John and Leona (Hazelett) Adams. She was educated in Newport schools. Ada worked as a packer at Snowflake Canning in Corinna for many years.
She was married to Theodore R. Bragg Jr. for almost 48 years. He predeceased her on November 5th, 2001.
Ada’s first priority was her family. They always came first and spending time with them was always a great joy especially when she could cook for them. In her earlier years Ada enjoyed reading. For the past several years Ada has been a resident of Sanfield Living Center in Hartland. She enjoyed playing Bingo both at Sanfield and with her family on regular “Girls’ Day Bingo” gatherings.
While a resident of Sanfield in Hartland, Ada married Byron W. Fraser and he predeceased her on September 24, 2010.
Ada is survived by her son and his wife, Theodore R. and Donna Bragg III of Newport, her two daughters and their husbands, Joanne and Scott Wiley of Scarborough, Daisy and Paul Parker of Saco, one brother Amos Adams of Clinton, two sisters, Deloris Petroskey of Newport, Rhonda Harding of Pensacola, FL, sister in law, Connie Millett of Palmyra, 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by two step-daughters, Lynn Bennett, Lauren Tanner and brother-in-law Dwight Fraser, step-brothers, Gary McCue, Marty McCue, step-sister, MaryEllen McCue and sister-in-law Janice McCue. She was predeceased by her parents, her son, Danny C. Bragg on May 10, 2000 and two brothers and a sister.
Friends called on Monday January 5th, 2015 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 573 North Maine Street, Pittsfield, from 12 to the time of the service at 1 PM. The service was officiated by Rev. Paul Parker.
The family would like to thank the staff of Sanfield Living Center for the wonderful care given to their mother. GARY E. WOLFORD

NEWPORT & ETNA - Gary Evans Wolford, 72, passed away unexpectedly January 2, 2015 at his Newport residence. He was born August 2, 1942 in Williamsport, MD, a son of James and Edna (Jordan) Wolford. He graduated from Williamsport High School, where he was a tuba player and drum major; and entered the U.S. Army, where he served as a Green Beret, Master Sergeant and tank driver during the Vietnam War. Gary received 2 Purple Hearts. While living in Belfast, he was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be fondly remembered as an all around great guy. Gary retired as assistant manager at Paris Farmers Union in Newport.
He is survived by 1 son, Bill Wolford of Bangor; 2 sisters, Patsy Powell and Claudia “Petie” Smith, both of Maryland; 3 grandchildren, Jayson, Tyler, and Decklyn; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Wilma, and 2 brothers, William and James.
Graveside committal services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 23rd, at Pleasant Hill cemetery, Etna. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. RONELLO FRANK BROWN

PITTSFIELD - Ronello Frank Brown, 92, a life-long resident of Pittsfield, died peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at his home.
Ronello was born in Pittsfield, Maine, on May 2, 1922, a son of Frank and Vera (Conant) Brown. He graduated from Maine Central Institute with the class of 1940 and proudly serve his country in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theatre and received the following recognitions: Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, the de Croix Guerre Medal from France and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Arrowhead.
In 1940, Ronello started his working career at the American Woolen Company doing clerical work. He then took a position at the Post Office in 1946 doing clerk carrier duties. He was promoted to Assistant Postmaster in 1956 and retired in 1972.
He met his wife, Constance, and married for the first time when he was 71. They had 21 wonderful years together. As a youth, he enjoyed playing the violin alongside his mother at the piano. They did a lot of recitals, weddings, dances and church services. Every year Ronello and Constance would spent summers at their camp on Unity Pond. They enjoyed fishing and spending time with their many friends. He enjoyed his vegetable garden every year and attended First Baptist Church in Pittsfield for several years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Constance Brown of Pittsfield; stepson, Barry Bickford and wife, Linda, of Trent, Texas; stepdaughter, Deborah Smith and husband, Kevin, of Pittsfield; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicole, Belinda, Patricia; great grandchildren, Linsey, Ashley, Agaba and Isabell; and great great grandchildren, Ayden and Allyson.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Village cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield. Military honors will be presented for his service to our country.
Care has been provided by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, Pittsfield.
