Josiath A. Doray
1948-2003
AUGUSTA — Josiath A. Doray Sr., 54, of Willow Street, died Monday, July 28, 2003.
He was born in North Conway, N.H., on Oct. 29, 1948, the son of Richard and Emily (Mitchell) Doray.
He served during Vietnam with the Army Reserves. He loved to sing, play guitar, swim and collect sports cards. He worked for Digital Equipment Corp. in Augusta for 20 years.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, David Doray; and a sister, Virginia Sutter.
He is survived by two sons, Daniel Doray Sr. of Fairfield and Josiath Doray Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; three daughters, Peggy Easler of Norridgewock, Tanya Doray of Vassalboro and Virginia Vincent of Greensburg, Pa.; three brothers, Richard Doray Jr. of Beauufort, S.C., Rodney Doray Sr. of Randolph and Clayton Doray of Augusta; four sisters, Eleanor Doray of Latrobe, Pa., Beverly Norton of Augusta, and Gracelyn Brown and Pamela Newsham, both of Portland. He is also survived by a close friend, Beverly Fisher of Augusta; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, in Resthaven Cemetery, Windsor. khrfuneralhomes.com
Stephen W. Flood
1963-2003
FARMINGDALE — Stephen W. Flood, 39, of Maine Avenue, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 28, 2003, in Augusta.
He was born in Freeport on Dec. 30, 1963, the son of Lorry and Martha (Sicard) Flood.
Steve proudly served his country for 10 years in the Army and during Desert Storm. He was a jack-of-all-trades, always building or working on something.
Steve was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Flood Jr., of Florida; daughter Jennifer Flood of Gardiner; brothers Donald Flood of Florida and "Skipper" Lorry Flood of South Carolina; sister Connie Hilton of South Carolina; stepfather Jay Kennedy of Farmingdale; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, in the Burr Cemetery
in Freeport.

Leo D. Gallant
2003
TEWKSBURY, Mass. —Leo D. Gallant, 69, a retired manager for Cabot House, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at his home after a two-month battle with cancer.
He was born in Rumford, Maine, a son of the late Francis and Orilla (Martin) Gallant. He was raised in Maine, but lived in Salem, N.H., for 26 years before moving to Tewksbury two months ago.
He enlisted in the Coast Guard during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as a gunners mate 3rd class. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post in Methuen, Mass. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a warehouse manager for Cabot House in Haverhill, Mass.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna Allen and her fiancee, William Melanson of Tewksbury, and Sally and her husband Robert Dogherty of Litchfield, N.H.; one brother, Norman Gallant and his wife Cay Gallant of Augusta, Maine; and six grandchildren, Paul and Wayne Allen, Eric and Elisha Dogherty, and Joshua and Dylan Melanson. He was also brother of Francis Gallant.
His funeral is at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of Dewey and Main Sreets (Route 38) Tewksbury Center, phone (978) 851-2950. Visiting hours 4-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, in the funeral home. Following cremation, interment will be private.

Walter W. Turyn
1920-2003
BOCA RATON, Fla. —Walter W. Turyn died peacefully in his home on Sunday, July 27, 2003, at the age of 82.
Born in Port Reading, N.J., on Oct. 14, 1920, he was raised in Cateret, N.J. He joined the Navy during World War II and received training at the Naval Research Laboratories in Washington, D.C. He served as chief radar technician aboard the USS Coolbaugh and received a medal for good conduct, and five stars for battles fought in the Philippine Liberation and the Asiatic Pacific.
After the war, he received a bachelor of arts degree from Cornell University, New York, in 1950, and a master's degree from the State University of New York in Cortland in 1952. He did additional graduate work at Columbia University and Hofstra University.
On Sept. 6, 1946, he married Elizabeth Szabo, and started his family soon after.
He devoted his entire career to the field of education, primarily for UFSD 3 in Huntington, N.Y. He taught at Washington Elementary School and became principal of Nathan Hale Elementary School. He also served as principal of Southdown Elementary School and was instrumental in the development of the first sixth-grade centers at Woodhull and Finley schools.
When he retired in 1977, he became an active volunteer, serving as president of the Teacher's Federal Credit Union and as a tax-aid coordinator, helping senior citizens with their income tax forms. He spent his summers in Maine and winters in Boca Raton, Fla.
He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 1974, and his sister, Mera Palasky, July 21, 2003, in St. Louis, Mo.
He is survived by his three children, Walter and his wife, Janet of Durham, N.C., and grandsons Scott and Ben, Romaine and her husband, Al Prysunka of Readfield, Maine, and granddaughters Lia and Emma, and daughter Adrienne of Portland, Maine, and grandsons Joshua and Alexander Broome; and several nephews and their families. Special mention must be made of his caregiver of six years, Duet Pyle-Maxwell, who not only provided excellent and compassionate care, but also became part of the family.
Arrangements are being made by the Kraeer Funeral Home in Boca Raton. A graveside service will be held in August at the Long Island National Cemetery
in Farmingdale, N.Y.
The Rev. Richard G. Lonsdale
1940-2003
SACO — The Rev. Richard G. Lonsdale, 62, of Pleasant Street, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
He was born July 13, 1940, in Biddeford, a son of William and Theresa Pare Lonsdale and graduated from St. Louis High School and St. Francis College, both in Biddeford, and St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Md.
The Rev. Lonsdale was ordained on May 21, 1966, in Portland. From 1966 to 1978, he was an assistant at Sacred Heart in Portland, St. Athanasius in Rumford, St. Charles in Brunswick, Sacred Heart in Yarmouth, St. John in Bangor and St. Raphael in Kittery.
On June 15, 1978, he became pastor of Holy Family in Greenville; on Sept. 1, 1983, he became pastor of St. Dominic in Portland; on July 2, 1990, he became pastor of Sacred Heart in Hallowell and on July 1, 1999, he became chaplain to the Sisters of Blessed Sacrament and Ursuline Sisters in Waterville.
His brother, the Rev. Donald W., died in 1983.
He is survived by two aunts, Rita of Biddeford and Madeleine Gilbert of Randolph, Mass., and several cousins.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at Sacred Heart Church, Summer Street, Hallowell.

Leslie Norman Crooker
1935-2003
RICHMOND — Leslie Norman Crooker, 68, passed away at Brentwood Nursing Center in Yarmouth, on Sept. 14, 2003.
Leslie was born on July 20, 1935, the son of Harry C. Crooker and Doris Briery. He lived in Richmond for most of his life.
He is survived by several brothers and sisters. He is also survived by his four sons, Randy, Robin and Richard Crooker of Bowdoinham and Larry Mosher of Auburn; two daughters, Faith Jones of Topsham and Billie-Jo Brainard of Augusta; and several grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at 22 East Chestnut St., Augusta.
Maxwell Winter Moulton
2003
PITTSTON — Maxwell Winter Moulton, born June 23, 1908 at the family farm in East Pittston, son of Frank Guy and Florence Blodgett Moulton, died at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003.
He attended Pittston schools and graduated from Gardiner High School. He subsequently received an industrial arts degree from Gorham Normal School in 1933. He thereafter taught in a one-room school in Pittston, and became a school bus private contractor for the Gardiner School District. He also served on the SAD 11 School Board.
He was Town Clerk of Pittston for 40 years, retiring when he was 80. He also served as a notary public and a justice of the peace, performing what he called many "interesting" marriages. He was known as a poultry man, who raised hatching eggs as well as exotic breeds of geese. He was a lifelong member of the Pittston Grange and a past member of Gardiner Lodge AF & AM.
His interests included
hunting
, fishing, gardening and studying Maine history. His favorite author was C.A. Stephens of Norway.
He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Sylvia Alexander Moulton, in 1978.
Survivors include sons Alexander and his wife, Dorothy, and Samuel and his wife Lucy, both of Pittston; his daughter, Maxine Heath of Pittston, and his daughter, Cynthia and husband Albert Wescott of Norway; his wife, Ethel Moulton of Pittston; and four stepdaughters; he also leaves many grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
