Bernard Blatt
KENNEBUNK – Bernard L. Blatt, 62, of Kennebunk, died May 24, 2005 at his home.
He was born a son of Isadore and Rose (Green) Blatt in Springfield, Mass. on May 4, 1943.
He attended Springfield schools, graduating from Classical High School. He graduated from Ryder University and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
As a certified public accountant, he was a member of the American Institute of CPAs, and was also a member of the York Rotary Club.
He was a devoted father and husband. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Leona; one son, Jeffrey Blatt of Parsippany, N.J.; one daughter, Laura Blatt of Quincy, Mass.; one sister, Suzanne Yarmitzky of Plantation, Fla.; and other loving family and friends.
A prayer service was held at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk on May 26.
Burial was at Evergreen cemetery in Kennebunk.

Robert Gove
KENNEBUNK – Robert O. Gove, 77, of Kennebunk, died May 27, 2005 at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Hampden, Maine on June 16, 1927, a son of Evetts S. and Ruth (Mingo) Gove.
He attended Hampden schools and graduated from Hampden Academy, and served his country in the US Navy during World War II.
He worked at Raytheon in Andover, Mass. for more than 30 years.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Ocean Lodge of Wells and was a Shriner. He was also a member of the Webber-Lefebvre American Legion Post No. 74 of Kennebunk.
He enjoyed fishing and taking fishing trips with his family and friends to Grand Lake Stream, playing cards, cribbage and rummy. He enjoyed traveling and had traveled to Europe and Bermuda with his wife, Agnes. He liked to cook, especially on fishing and hunting trips.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Agnes (Lyons) of Kennebunk; three sons, John Gove and his wife, Nancy of Lyman, Lee Gove of Portsmouth, N.H., and Scott Gove and his wife Lisa of Pennacook, N.H.; one stepson, Arthur Margerison of Hawaii; two daughters, Linda Koch and her husband, John of Wakefield, N.H., and Debra MacDonald and her husband, William of Utah; one step-daughter, Joan Lewis and her husband, Clark of Old Orchard; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Wednesday at Hope cemetery in Kennebunk.
If desired, donations can be made in his memory to the Shriner’s Hospital for Burned Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02115.

Evelyn Levesque
OGUNQUIT – Evelyn L. Levesque, 87, of Ogunquit, died May 26, 2005 at York Hospital.
She was born in Berwick on Dec. 23, 1917, the daughter of Everett L. and Gertrude (Hamlin) Lord.
She was a teacher for more than 48 years and taught at the Portsmouth Junior High School.
She was a member of a Octecs Bridge Club and a past member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, reading and birdwatching.
Surviving are one daughter, Christel (Parker) Bumphrey and her husband, Jerry of Ocala, Fla.; two brothers, Everett Lord and his wife Eleanor of Ocala, Fla., and John “Babe” Lord and his wife Barbara of Ogunquit; two grandsons, William E. Bumphrey of Las Vegas, Nev., and Sgt. John D. Bumphrey, USAF, of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Rd., Wells. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the First Parish cemetery in York.

Edward Ross
YORK (and Orono) – Edward E. Ross, 88, of Eureka Avenue, formerly of Orono, died at York Hospital on May 26, 2005 after a long illness.
He was born on March 21, 1917 in Rumford, the son of J. Albert and Margaret (Dempsey) Ross. He attended Bangor schools and was a 1935 graduate of Bangor High School. The following year he attended Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, Maine. He earned a B.S. in forestry at the University of Maine, class of 1940 and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He served in the Eighth Air Force during World War II and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and other medals for his participation in the European Theatre of Operations with the 493rd Bombardment Group.
In 1947 he married Josephine (Brown) Kyle and they made their home in Orono for 36 years.
He was employed by Prudential Insurance Company for several years and owned and operated a building materials and hardware store in Bangor, until his last career with the Department of Community Development, City of Bangor. He retired in 1982 and moved to York.
He was active in community affairs. He was a founding member and officer of the Orono Jaycees, member of the Orono Board of Selectman for six years and member of the Orono-Old Town Kiwanis. He served on the board of directors for the Multiple Handicap Center of Penobscot Valley. After moving to York he became an active member of the Old York Historical Society and served six years as a member of the Board of Trustees. He spent many volunteer hours assisting Virginia Spiller at the Old York Historical Society Library. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a communicant of St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Church.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Charles E., John A. and Donald P. Ross.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Josephine (Brown) Ross of York; one son, Dr. Philip Ross of Golden, Colo.; one daughter, Margaret Joan Ross of Portland; one stepson, John L. Kyle of Yarmouth; one stepdaughter, Rachel Kyle Milheron of Orono; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service in his honor will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Christopher’s Church, York Street, York. Interment will be in Riverside cemetery in Orono. Donations may be made in his memory to the Morrison Development Center, 70 Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
LCDR Robert Stacy
ELIOT – LCDR Robert Eugene Stacy USN Retired, 72, born in Eliot, died on May 22, 2005 at York Hospital, following a period of failing health with cancer. A true Maine native, he grew up in Kittery and Eliot, and was born on June 22, 1933. He attended local schools, graduated high school from R. W. Traip Academy.
Following graduation, he was accepted at the Maine Maritime Academy and graduated in 1954 with a degree in mechanical engineering, entered the Core of Merchant Marines and then joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Cuban Missile Crisis and on the USS Coral Sea during the Vietnam War.
He married Ruth Walker in 1962 and raised their family around the world during his service in the Navy for 21 years. He enjoyed; pleasure boating, golfing, model shipbuilding, and time with his grandchildren.
Those who knew and loved him including his divorced wife Ruth for 20 years, one daughter, Rhonda Stacy of Rye, N.H., as well as his grandchildren, Jackson and Nellie Coyle will miss him. His friend Loco, Portuguese water dog, who he enjoyed playing with in the hospital, also survives him.
A funeral was celebrated on Tuesday at the Stacy cemetery in Eliot.
Family flowers only; donations may be made in his memory to a charity of one’s choice.

Mary Eckel
KENNEBUNK – Mary Constance Eckel, 87, of Larboard Lane in Kennebunk died on Feb. 27, 2005. She was the widow of Rev. Malcolm W. Eckel.
Memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the St. David’s Episcopal Church, Route 1 South, Kennebunk, with the Rev. Dan Riggall officiating.
Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.

Matthew Sylvester
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Matthew Robert Sylvester, 43, of Shearwater Drive in Portsmouth, died on Jan. 31, 2005 at his home, following a long and incredibly courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on March 31, 1961 in Pensacola, Fla. He attended schools in Kittery including R.W. Traip Academy. He served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman with special training as a combat field medic where his true talent came into play when he assisted the injured sailors after the tragic plane crash on the flight deck of the USS Nimitz in May of 1981.
Following service in the military he worked for a number of nursing care facilities here in the seacoast area. In 1986 he became a member of the Portsmouth Regional Hospital staff, working for many years as a unit coordinator and cardiac monitor tech in the Intensive Care Unit . He loved his job and aspired to be so much more, but most of all, he loved to make people laugh and it was something he was good at, touching the lives of everyone he came in contact with.
He leaves his mother Diana Sylvester; his father Robert Sylvester; one sister, Kimberly; one brother, Mark; as well as his friend and companion Faith, and her children whom Matt loved as his own, Jessica, Jennifer and Steven; six nieces and nephews; and his Uncle David.
A memorial service to celebrate his life was held on Saturday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Kittery, with a reception immediately following at the Corner Pub in Wallingford Square in Kittery.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Portsmouth Home Health and Hospice Services, 95 Albany St., Unit 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801 or to a charity of one’s choice.

James Ward
KENNEBUNK - James L. Ward, 88, of Alewive Road, died Feb. 3, 2005 at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Kennebunk on Feb. 28, 1916, a son of Harold E. and Irma (Lavin) Ward.
He attended Kennebunk schools and Hebron Academy.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for four years, first in England, then in the invasion of Italy. He was stationed on an air base there, and drove an ambulance helping crash victims.
Returning home after the war, he worked for 32 years at the Portsmouth Navy Yard.
He is survived by two nephews, Bruce Ward of Gorham and John Ward of Silver Spring, Md.; two nieces, Kathleen Yde of Chuluota, Fla. and Patricia Costello of Upton, Mass.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Hope cemetery in Kennebunk.

Emma Welch
WELLS - Emma E. Welch, 84, of Meeting House Road, passed away Feb. 3, 2005 in York Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 29, 1920 in Wells, a daughter of Winfield James and Etta Evelyn (Hatch) Elwell. She had worked for K&E Products in Kennebunk as a bookkeeper. She was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Donald Welch Sr., and a grandson, Reginald Welch and her brother Winfield Elwell.
Surviving are one son, Donald Welch Jr. of Perry, Maine; one brother, James Elwell of Wells; two sisters, Nellie Kershaw of Lebanon, and Dorothea Reekes of Wells; three grandchildren, Jason Welch of Sanford, Kimberly Clark of Washington and Candy Saric of Colorado; two great-grandchildren and her long-time companion, Robert Earles of Wells.
A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Pine Hill cemetery in Wells.

Irene Wormwood
WELLS - Irene C. Wormwood, 95, of Bragdon Road, passed away Feb. 2, 2005 at the Newton Rehabilitation Center in Sanford. She was the widow of Gordon E. Wormwood, who passed away in 1992.
She was born Dec. 19, 1909, in Marlinton, W. Va., a daughter of Jonathan William and Blanche (Curtis) Gerow. She was the oldest living graduate of Wells High School, graduating in the class of 1926. She then graduated from Burdett College of Boston, Mass. She worked for Ground Gripper Shoe Co., until she moved to Pennsylvania. She then returned to Maine, where she worked as a secretary and billing clerk for Kesslen Shoe Company in Kennebunk.
She loved gardening, especially her rose gardens. She enjoyed nature and loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, Curtis Wormwood and his wife Viola, one grandson, Walter Wormwood and his wife, Sherri-Ann, one granddaughter, Susan Forsley, one great-granddaughter, Katy Wormwood, two great-grandsons, Curtis Forsley and Andrew Wormwood, all of Wells; two nieces, Rosella Morrow and her husband Elwyn also of Wells and Camille Salls of Florida.
A funeral service was held Monday at the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick. Rev. Robert G. Cole Sr. of the Bethel Christian Church officiated.
Interment in the spring in the Wormwood Family cemetery in Wells.

Elizabeth Keyes
OGUNQUIT - Elizabeth Ivie Keyes, 90, of Riverbank Road, died Feb. 7, 2005 at the Varney Crossing Nursing Center in North Berwick.
She was born in Wells, Sept. 2, 1914, daughter of Fred and Edith (Hubbard) Sherburne. She graduated from Wells High School and attended Burdette College in Massachusetts. She loved working in her beautiful flower gardens.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Frank Malcolm Keyes.
Surviving are two sons, F. Malcolm Keyes Jr. of Wells, and Fred Richmond Keyes and his wife Lucia of Connelly Springs, N.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, E. Miriam Blanchard of Wells; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring in the Ocean View cemetery in Wells.
