LILLIAN B. LEACH, formerly of Goodwins Mills and Biddeford, died March 2, 2000 in Orange, Mass. Visiting hour 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, followed by a 2 p.m. funeral service. Burial in Goodwins Mills Cemetery, Lyman.
Elizabeth Martin
BIDDEFORD -- Elizabeth M. Martin, 76, of Prospect Manor, died Thursday (listed Friday, May 5, 2000) at RiverRidge Center for Rehabilitation.
She was born in Biddeford Feb. 27, 1924, a daughter of Joseph and Emma Hamel Dubois, and attended Biddeford schools.
Mrs. Martin was formerly employed by John Roberts and later by A.L.B. Rubber, both of Biddeford.
She enjoyed knitting and cooking.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Martin, in 1961, and two sisters, Claire Nolette and Lucille Sanschagrin.
Survivors include three sons, Armand of Arundel, and Richard and Gerard, both of Biddeford; one daughter, Pauline Mohrmann of Biddeford; one sister, Florence Cookson of Sunnyvale, Calif.; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Eleanor Wormwood
KENNEBUNKPORT -- Eleanor Smith Wormwood, 82, of Atlantic Blvd., North Providence, R.I., and former longtime resident of Kennebunkport, died Thursday (listed Friday, May 5, 2000) at the Hopkins Manor in North Providence after a long illness.
She was born March 5, 1918 in Roxbury, Mass., a daughter of Leroy E. and Grace Cluff Smith.
She was a member of the Ladies Society and the Arundel Grange, all of Kennebunkport, member and first president of the 1918 National Club of Maine, and enjoyed tracing her family roots.
Mrs. Wormwood was a member of the First Congregational Church.
She is predeceased by her husband, Orvin E. Wormwood, in 1995, and a daughter, Janice Robinson.
Survivors include a son, Richard, of Kennebunk; two daughters, Carol Dore of Maple Valley, Wash., and Shyrlee Dorazio of Smithfield, R.I.; a sister, Marjorie Johnson of Alfred; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren.
INGALLS
PATRICIA F., died Jan. 15, 2000 in Portland. A spring committal service will be held Saturday, May 6, at 2 p.m., at the Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Phil Sherman will officiate. Arrangements are by Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 13 Portland Road, Buxton.
MARTIN
ELIZABETH M., of Biddeford, died May 4, 2000. Visiting hours 7-9 p.m. Friday, Cote Funeral Home, Beach and James Street, Saco. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
WORMWOOD
ELEANOR SMITH, of North Providence, R.I., died May 4, 2000. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the First Congregational Church, North Street, Kennebunkport, with Rev. David Wigley officiating. Interment will be in Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport. Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, North Street, Kennebunkport, Maine 04046.
Maria Thibeault
SANFORD - Maria E. Thibeault, 91, of Laurel Street, died Thursday (listed Saturday, May 1, 1999) at her home.
She was born in St. Helene, P.Q., Canada on March 1, 1908, a daughter of Exphana and Mary Pepin Thibodeau. She was educated in Canada.
She moved to Sanford in 1925. She worked as a fancy stitcher for the former Universal Shoe Co. for 40 years, retiring from there when they closed in 1975.
Her interests included knitting, crocheting and quilting. She also enjoyed her home and grandsons, family members say.
Her husband, Emilien Thibeault, died in 1986.
She is survived by a daughter, Rita Lafortune of Leister, Mass.; a son, Leo and a sister, Alida Thibodeau, both of Sanford; and five grandsons.
Elda Jubinsky
SANFORD - Elda Caroline Anselmi Jubinsky, 85, died Thursday (listed Saturday, May 1, 1999) at Mercy Hospital in Portland.
She was born on Dec. 26, 1913 in Monessen, Penn., a daughter of Eugene and Alessandra (Dini) Anselmi, who had immigrated from Florence, Italy, in 1913 and ran a grocery and butcher business in Monessen.
She grew up in Monessen and moved to Baltimore, Md., in the 1930s where she worked a supervisor in the tin mill at Bethlehem Steel in Sparrow’s Point, Md. In 1943, she joined the ranks of working women (called “Rosie the Riveters”) when she and other women replaced male mechanics who were in the military. During the war, she learned to become a Jeep mechanic when she worked at Fort Holibird in Dundalk, Md.
In 1944, she married John Jubinsky, an electrician and son of Russian immigrant parents. He died in 1960. She raised her three young children as a single parent by working as an elementary school crossing guard.
She moved to Sanford in 1980 and became involved in the St. Ignatius Parish, where she was a member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne. Family members say that for several years, she was known as “the jewelry lady” at the parish’s Christmas bazaars because she ran the popular recycled jewelry sale.
She is survived by two daughters, Juliana (Mrs Richard) L’Heureux of Brunswick and Monica Jubinsky of Massachusetts; a son, John Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; four grandsons, a granddaughter and two great-granddaughters.
JUBINSKY
ELDA CAROLINE ANSELMI, of Sanford, died April 29, 1999 in Portland. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St Ignatius Church in Sanford. Burial will be at a later date in Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Baltimore, Md. Arrangements are by LaFrance-Lambert Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Andre’s Home, 283 Elm St., Biddeford ME 04005, a non-profit agency founded and managed by the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec to care for homeless teen-agers or single teen-age mothers and their children.
THIBEAULT
MARIA E. of Sanford died April 29, 1999. Visiting hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the LaFrance-Lambert Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church. Burial will follow in St. Ignatius Cemetery.
Leo Paquette
BIDDEFORD - Leo M. Paquette, 71, of Liberty Avenue died Friday (listed Saturday, October 9, 1999) at Southern Maine Medical Center.
He was born April 4, 1928 in Thetford Mines, Quebec, Canada, a son of Arthur and Rose Anna Gobeil Paquette, moved to the local area with his family in 1932 and was educated locally.
On Aug. 7, 1954 he married Simonne A. Villeneuve at St. Andre's Church in Biddeford.
Mr. Paquette was employed by Thibodeau's Dairy in Saco for several years, and by Herman Shoe of Scarborough for 20 years. He retired in 1993 from Sebago Moccasin, Westbrook, after 10 years of employment.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church.
Mr. Paquette enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years of Biddeford; a son, Maurice A. of Los Angeles, Calif.; four brothers, Adelbert of Saco, Paul of Kansas City, Mo., Rosaire of Biddeford and Andre of Denver, Colo.; five sisters, Rose Irene Poisson, Jeanne Boisvert and Claire St. Ours, all of Biddeford, Eva (Mrs. Armand) Rousselle of Old Orchard Beach and Maria (Mrs. Harry) Boutet of Saco; several nieces and nephews.
PAQUETTE
LEO M., died Oct. 8, 1999 in Biddeford. Visiting hours 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A funeral mass will be held 9 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Church. Burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
William Studley
KENNEBUNKPORT — William A. "Bill" Studley, 90, of School Street died Thursday evening (listed Saturday, November 6, 1999) at Southern Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mr. Studley was born June 26, 1909, in Wells, the son of Frederick and Annie (Burgess) Studley, and attended Wells schools.
He was employed as a custodian at the Wildes District School. During the 1930s, he and his wife operated a fried food stand at Wells Beach. He was a 25-year employee of General Electric in Somersworth, where he assembled meters.
Mr. Studley also lobstered out of Kennebunkport.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, manning the watch tower on Ocean Avenue, Kennebunkport.
He was an active member of the community, serving as a member of the Village Fire Company and as a member and past master of Arundel Lodge #76 Lodge of Masons. He was a life member of Aurora Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed playing cribbage at the Senior Center at Lower Village.
Mr. Studley was well-known for his garden and for the vegetables he sold in his front yard.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lois Hutchins Studley, who died in 1996, and a brother, Warren Studley.
Survivors include three nieces, Sandy (Mrs. Robert) Green of Jefferson, Joyce (Mrs. Ron) Vigue of Berwick and Audrey (Mrs. George) Vakalis of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister-in-law, Emma Studley of Berwick.
CROSBY
HUNTER, died Nov. 2, 1999 in Saco. There will be a celebration of his life, friendship, enthusiasm and courage Monday, Nov. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kerrymen Pub, 516 Main St. (Rte. 1) Saco. His friends are warmly invited to stop by, greet the family, have a bite, and hoist one in his memory and honor.
STUDLEY
WILLIAM A., "BILL," 90, of School Street, Kennebunkport, died Nov. 4, 1999 in Biddeford. He was the widower of Lois Hutchins Studley, who died in 1996. Visiting hours will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A Masonic memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Interment will be in First Parish Cemetery
in York.
Otto Brandt
WATERBORO -- Otto C. Brandt, 76, of Waterboro died early Friday morning (listed Saturday, February 26, 2000) at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.
Mr. Brandt was born in his parents home in Waterboro May 1, 1923. He was the son of Otto and Leona (Rhoades) Brandt.
He attended Waterboro Schools and graduated from Waterboro High School in the spring of 1941. After graduation Mr. Brandt enlisted in the armed forces as part of the Air Force Service Command of the Army.
He served in the Pacific during World War II and received a Bronze Star for his efforts.
Following the war he returned to Maine. In 1947, Mr. Brandt took part in the battle against Maine's forest fires and would eventually go to work in the woods. Later he worked for 20 years at the Allied Kid Co., and he eventually retired in 1986 from GTE-Sylvania after another 20 years of dedicated service.
Otto C. Brandt loved the great outdoors. On many occasions he would spend the day either
hunting, fishing, or simply watching his garden grow.
He played an important part in the formation of the Waterboro Little League baseball program.
Family and friends remember him as a good father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed spending time with others, often conversing over a glass of homemade wine or beer.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Audrey, and a sister, Muriel Johnson.
Surviving are his son Richard of Waterboro; two granddaughters, Melissa Daigneault of North Waterford, Amy of Waterboro; a great-grandson, Ethan; three sisters, Beatrice Huntress of Waterboro, Barbara Brunette of Springvale, and Dorothea Edgecombe of Waterboro.
