Martin Croteau
WEST NEWFIELD - Martin G. Croteau, 65, of 26 E.H. Davis Drive, died Wednesday (listed Friday, January 23, 1998) at Frisbie Hospital, Rochester, N.H., after a long illness.
He was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Boston, Mass., a son of Frederick and Lillia Domingue Croteau, attended Boston parochial schools and graduated from Mission High School.
During World War II he served in the Army.
For several years Mr. Croteau was employed by Diamond Tool in Jamaica Plain, Mass.
Survivors include three brothers, Leonard of West Newfield, with whom he lived; Jeffrey of Bridgewater, Mass., and Chester, and three nieces.
Muriel Desrosiers
BIDDEFORD - Muriel R. Desrosiers, 82, of Sullivan Street, died at home Thursday (listed Friday, January 23, 1998).
She was born Sept. 16, 1915, in Biddeford, a daughter of J. Wilfred and Delia Binette Lepine, and was educated at St. Andre's School.
In the mid-1930s Mrs. Desrosiers founded Muriel's Band and directed it for 40 years. For several years she was also the organist at St. Andre's Church.
She was a member of the Biddeford Senior Citizens Club and performed with the Biddeford Senior Citizens Rockettes. She enjoyed music and dancing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lucien Desrosiers, in 1980, and her only son, Cpl. Ronald Desrosiers, in 1988.
She is survived by several cousins.
Norma Paige
SPRINGVALE - Norma Paige, 95, formerly of Turner Street, died Wednesday (listed Friday, January 23, 1998) at Woodford Park, Portland.
She was born Oct. 17, 1902, in Milton Mills, N.H., a daughter of Robert and IdaSibley Page, graduated from Brewster Academy, Keene Normal School and Boston University.
Miss Paige taught elementary school in Milton Mills, Ipswich and Malden, Mass., and Sanford.
From 1961 to 1981 she lived in Springvale and in the early 1960s worked in the Springvale Public Library.
She was a member of North Parish Congregational Church, the Searchlight Club, the Christian Women's Association, the Sanford/Springvale College Club and the Retired Teachers of York County.
Survivors include a nephew, Robert Page of Sanbornville, N.H.; great-nieces and a great-nephew.
Michael Pettis
ACTON - Michael "Marshal Mike" Pettis, 46, of Loop Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday (listed Friday, January 23, 1998) in Fryeburg.
He was born Aug. 29, 1951, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., a son of Rexford and Helen Young Pettis, attended North Fryeburg schools and participated in cerebralpalsy groups in Gorham and at Great Bay School in Newington.
Mr. Pettis was a handyman, did yard work for others and was a great neighborhood volunteer, according to survivors.
He was an honorary member of the Acton and Sanford fire departments and a member of Riverside Grange, North Berwick.
Survivors include his mother, Helen M. Smith of Acton; two stepbrothers, Peter Smith of Acton and Stanley Smith of Brownfield; a stepsister, Marjorie Smith of Sanford; three nieces and two nephews.
Dr. David Tetz
KENNEBUNKPORT - Dr. David John Tetz, 44, of South Maine Street, died Tuesday (listed Friday, January 23, 1998) in Cortez, Colo.
He was born Dec. 28, 1953, in Elmira, N.Y., a son of John and Verna Whitmore Tetz. He graduated from Elmira Free Academy, Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y., earned his physician's assistant degree from George Washington University Medical Center, Washington, D.C., and post-graduate surgical degree from Norwalk Hospital and Yale University in Connecticut.
In 1986 he moved to Kennebunkport with his family and graduated in 1990 from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford. He did his residency training at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester, Mass.
A board-certified emergency physician, Dr. Tetz was employed by the University of Massachusetts Medical Center as a LifeFlight emergency physician and as assistant medical director of LifeFlight for several years.
He worked as an emergency room physician for the Medical Center, Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire, Brighton Medical Center, Maine Medical Center, York Hospital and H.D. Goodall Hospital.
Dr. Tetz was a member of the Federal Emergency Medical Assistance Team, a faculty member at the University of Massachusetts for emergency residences and a fellow with the American College of Emergency Physicians. He taught emergency medical services courses to emergency medical technicians in New Hampshire and Maine.
He enjoyed skiing, kayaking, scuba diving and sailing.
Survivors include his wife, Brooke Sullivan Tetz, a son, Jared David, and a daughter, Kristin Leigh, all of Kennebunkport; his parents of Delaware, Ohio; a brother, Dr. James A. of Springfield, Ohio; a sister, Donna T. Kavo of Pittsburgh, Pa., and two nephews.
Barbara Vanderward
BIDDEFORD - Barbara D. Vanderward, 79, of Havey Avenue, died Thursday (listed Friday, January 23, 1998) at Evergreen Manor, Saco.
She was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Biddeford, the daughter of Jere Wayne and Laura Hill Dearborn, attended Biddeford schools and graduated in 1934 from Biddeford High School.
For 48 years Mrs. Vanderward was employed as a secretary and office manager at Central Maine Power Co., retiring in 1982.
She enjoyed interior decorating and gardening.
She was an active member of Second Congregational Church, where she served as Sunday school superintendent and on many church committees.
Her first husband, Tryon Cutter, was killed in action in Normandy during World War II. Her second husband, Millard F. Vanderward, died several years ago, and her brother, Donald Wayne Dearborn, died in 1981.
Survivors include three nieces and a nephew, Joan Susi and Jere Dearborn, both of Biddeford, Janet Judge of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Julie Reed of Windham.
Donald Notman
KENNEBUNKPORT - Donald D. Notman, 73, formerly of Buffalo, N.Y., and Washington, D.C., died Wednesday (listed Friday, January 23, 1998) at Southern Maine Medical Center.
He was born July 11, 1924, in Buffalo, attended the Nichols School and graduated in 1949 from Yale University.
He served during World War II and received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Notman began his banking executive career with Marine Midland Bank of Western New York, where he was a senior vice president. In 1974 he moved to Washington, D.C., and was chairman and CEO of the National Bank of Washington. Following retirement in 1979, he was one of the founders of the Palmer National Bank in Washington.
Survivors include his wife, G.L.M.R.S. Notman of Kennebunkport; a sister, Anne Lundrigan of Buffalo; two daughters, Gaier N. Palmisano of Southport, Conn., and Andrea T. of Belmont, Mass.; a son, Donald D. Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren.

Douglas Metcalfe
SANFORD - A. Douglas Metcalfe, 85, of Pompano Beach, Fla., died Tuesday (listed Friday, December 4, 1998) at Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
He was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Providence, R.I., a son of Ernest A. and Ivy (Pickles) Metcalfe, and was a graduate of Sanford High School.
Mr. Metcalfe was a former resident of Cape Neddick and had been a summer resident of Moody Point since 1981.
Mr. Metcalfe was employed as a loom fixer and weaver for the former Goodall-Sanford Textile Mill until it closed in 1954. He was then employed in woolen mills in Winchester, Va., and Kezar Falls for many years.
He purchased and operated a motel in Cape Neddick for 12 years, and was a rural mail carrier there, retiring in 1972.
Mr. Metcalfe was a member of the Sanford Elks Lodge.
He had lived in Pompano Beach since 1981.
Ethel Bodwell of Pompano Beach was his companion for many years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Hilda Paul Metcalfe, in 1981.
Survivors include three sons, Ernest of Sanford, Harold A. of Alfred, and D. Michael of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Judith A. Eastman of Sanford; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
