Elizabeth Luce
SANFORD - Elizabeth Grace Luce, 85, of State Street, died Tuesday (listed Thursday, January 22, 1998) at H.D. Goodall Hospital.
She was born March 14, 1912, in Dedham, Mass., a daughter of Robert and Catherine Ringler Buttlar.
For many years Mrs. Luce lived in Holbrook, Mass., before moving to Sanford in 1975.
She was an active member of the Holbrook Grange and Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, was known for growing wildflowers, roses and strawberries, and was an avid reader. Her family said she loved her church, her garden and her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Reed V. Luce, in 1976.
Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Elizabeth of Gloucester, Mass.; a brother, Edward W. Buttlar of Valparaiso, Ind.; two sisters, Dora Brauer of Sharon, Mass., and Agnes Surrett of Malden, Mass.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Timothy Murphy
KENNEBUNK - Timothy J. “Ted” Murphy III, 82, of Gendron Lane, died Tuesday (listed Thursday, December 3, 1998) at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford.
He was born April 28, 1916 in Lewiston, a son of Timothy J. and Mary Harkins Murphy, graduated from Lewiston High School and attended Bliss College there.
Mr. Murphy was employed with Pepperell Manufacturing, then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. During World War II, he served in the 268th Army Air Force Base Unit. He returned to Pepperell after the war and continued his career in New York, Massachusetts and Maine as a production manager, retiring after 44 years with the company.
Mr. Murphy loved golf, family members say, and was assistant treasurer at the Cape Arundel Golf Club for many years.
He was a communicant ot St. Martha’s Church.
Mr. Murphy was predeceased by a daughter, Shannon Mary, five brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Audrey Harding Murphy of Kennebunk; two sons, Timothy J. IV of Kennebunkport and Jack M. of Kennebunk; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Margaret MacDonald
SANFORD - Margaret MacDonald, 92, died Tuesday (listed Thursday, December 3, 1998) at the Sanford Health Care Facility.
She was born Feb. 10, 1906 in Nova Scotia, Canada
, a daughter of Roderick and Margaret Bradbury MacKillop.
At age 16, Mrs. MacDonald moved to the greater Boston area, where she was employed as a cook and housekeeper in several private homes.
She moved to the Sanford area in 1988 from Brighton, Mass., where she was a member of the Newton Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhodena Edwards of Acton; a sister, May Sampson of Sydney, N.S., Canada
; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Verne Hammond
BUXTON - Former resident Verne Floyd Hammond, 71, of Salisbury, Md., died Nov. 23 (listed Thursday, December 3, 1998) at Salisbury Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 8, 1926 in Buxton, a son of Carrie Berry Sawyer and Raymond L. Hammond, and was educated in Buxton schools. His stepather was Winfred E. Sawyer.
He was a Merchant Marine and served with the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II.
For most of his life he was employed as a trucker.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Salisbury; a son, Robert of Billerica, Mass.; two stepchildren, Beverly Latham of Salisbury and Scott Longmuir of Massachusetts; five sisters, Natalie Hebert of California, Avis Swasey of Bar Mills, Winnifred Ahlquist of York, Sue Hammond of Pennsylvania and Carolyn Macie of Massachusetts; four brothers, Paul, Edward and Douglas of New Hampshire and Phillip of Pennsylvania; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Beulah Bernier
BIDDEFORD - Beulah M. Gerrish Bernier, 77, of Taylor Street, died Wednesday (listed Thursday, December 3, 1998) at Southern Maine Medical Center.
She was born Nov. 18, 1921 in Lebanon, a daughter of Theodore and Grace Goodwin Gerrish, and was a 1938 graduate of Lebanon Academy.
On May 19, 1950 she married Fernand J. Bernier in Lebanon and came to live in the Biddeford area.
Mrs. Bernier was employed in area shoe shops and at Delorge’s Bakery for 15 years, retiring in 1985.
An avid gardner and birdwatcher, Mrs. Benrier also enjoyed sewing, quilting, making puzzles and working on the computer with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Daniel J., on Nov. 14, 1997.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years of Biddeford; two sons, Joseph of Dayton and Ted of Biddeford; a daughter, Janice Wyman of Biddeford; three brothers, Vernon, Calvin and Merton, all of Lebanon; three sisters, Emma Waterhouse and Grace Gerrish of Florida and Donna Griffin of Lebanon; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

BEULAH M., died Dec. 2, 1998 in Biddeford. Visiting hours 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, where a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

TIMOTHY J. III, of Kennebunk, died Dec. 2, 1998 in Biddeford. Visiting hours 7-9 p.m. today at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Martha’s Church, Portland Road, Kennebunk. Burial at 10 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery, Lewiston. Dorothy Coluni
SANFORD - Former resident Dorothy Helen Coluni, 70, of Amsterdam, N.Y., died Monday (listed Thursday, May 6, 1999) at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam.
She was born July 23, 1928 in Amsterdam, a daughter of Sisto and Theresa (Ruggiano) Canape, who were originally from Alife, Italy. She graduated in 1947 from Wilber H. Lynch High Schol.
Mrs. Coluni lived in Sanford from 1992 until March, when she returned to Amsterdam.
She had been employed as activities director at Montgomery Meadows Nursing Home prior to retirement and was a member of the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
She was an avid bingo player.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church and a former member of the Christian Women’s Society.
Survivors include a son, Louis III of Springvale; a daughter, Amelia Polomaine of Scotia, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Guy Fecteau
BIDDEFORD - Guy Fecteau, 69, of Pool Street, died at home Tuesday (listed Thursday, May 6, 1999).
He was born Sept. 21, 1929 in Ste. Henedine, Quebec, Canada
, a son of Josephat and Lucienne Fecteau, and was educated there.
On Sept. 16, 1950 he married Florence Couture in St. Marie Beauce, Quebec, and moved to this area in 1957.
Mr. Fecteau was employed for several years at the Pepperell Manufacturing Co. and Saco Tannery. For the past 11 years he had worked at Young School, where he enjoyed his work and the company of children there, survivors say.
Mr. Fecterau also enjoyed dog races.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years of Biddeford; a son, Gilles of Biddeford; a daughter, Lynne of South Portland; a brother, the Rev. Levy of Ste. Isadore, Quebec; four sisters, Louise Chabot of Ste. Henedine, Marie Rose Deschaine of St. Marie Beauce and Bibiane Thibault and Pauline Lefebvre, both of Quebec City, Quebec; and many nieces and nephews.
Laurette Laliberte
BIDDEFORD - Laurette C. Laliberte, 87, formerly of Mount Pleasant Street, died Wednesday (listed Thursday, May 6, 1999) at St. Andre’s Health Care Facility.
She was born July 26, 1911 in Biddeford, a daughter of Jean Baptiste and Marie Dubois Laliberte, and was educated locally.
She was employed for most of her working life at the Pepperell Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1971.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and enjoyed summering at Hills Beach for many years.
Survivors include a niece, Charlotte Noonan of San Antonio, Texas; and three nephews, Roland of Houston, Texas, George of Manchester, N.H. and Guy of Saco.
Roland Whitten
KENNEBUNK - Roland Albert Whitten, known as “Babe” and “Whit”, 70, of Friend Street, died at home Wednesday (listed Thursday, May 6, 1999).
He was born March 21, 1929 in Kennebunk, a son of Newren and Grace Young Whitten, and attended local schools.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served in the Korean War.
Mr. Whitten was employed by the Portsmouth Laborers Union for more than 30 years and spent 10 years at the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant as a laborer.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Nancy C. Taylor Whitten of Kennebunk; a son, Roland Jr. of Kennebunk; two daughters, Deborah Jarvis of Kennebunk and Jane Hogbin of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Walter of Kennebunk and Kenneth of Biddeford; a sister, Noreen Dyer of Kennebunk; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
