Mr. Stem was the friend and companion of Donna Tegler of Westminster. The Son of the late Aubrey Joseph Stem, Jr. and the late Edith Case Stem. He was the owner of Paul C. Stem General Insurance. He enjoyed Boating, Fishing, Golfing and Socializing with Friends. Surviving are Son Blake Fleming of Florida. Brothers Aubrey Joseph Stem III and wife Peggy of Smallwood, Michael H. Stem and wife Carolyn of Westminster, Richard W. Stem, Sr. and companion Sharon Carpenter of Woodbine, MD, Thomas V. Stem and wife Lisa of Redline PA and Sister Susan M. Strawsburg and husband Steve of New Windsor. Business partner Jean Davis of Taneytown Also survived by good friend and nephew Rick Stem, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothea Mary Strauss Fisher, age 91, of Baltimore, MD, died Wednesday December 10, 2008 at Augsburg Lutheran Home, Baltimore, MD. She was born December 10, 1917 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late John William Strauss and the late Helen Merle Strauss. She was a homemaker. She was a lifetime member of St. James Lutheran Church in Randallstown. She was a beautician and also worked in Department Store Sales. She was the wife of the late Carroll L. Fisher. She was the mother of Judith F. Bruner of Columbia and the late William Keith Fisher. She was the grandmother of W. Keith Fisher, Kevin S. Fisher and John A. Bruner, Michael Bruner and David Bruner. Also survived by 10 great grandchildren. Sister of Late Eleanor Smink, Evelyn Snyder and the late Merle Strauss. He was born August 2, 1915 in Morgantown, WV the son of the late William Albert Cobun and Mattie Leona (Johnson) Cobun. He was a Diesel Mechanic for Cloverland Dairy for 29 years. He enjoyed Hunting and working on cars. He is survived by Son and Daughter-in-law Lloyd K. Cobun II and Donna of Westminster, Daughter and Son-in-law Kay F. Kunkle and Walter of Finksburg. She was born December 25, 1923 in Harrisburg, PA the daughter of the late George Sweigert and the late Effie Shambaugh Sweigert. She was a secretary for Central Penna. Deacon Raymond Carl Crawford, age 77, of Baltimore, died Tuesday December 23, 2008 at St. Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, MD. He was born June 14, 1931 in Baltimore, MD the son of the late Irvin W. Crawford and the late Anna E. Crawford (nee Kobel). He was a retired special delivery man for US Postal Service. He was a Deacon for 25 years. He was a Deacon and former Chaplain for Mother Seaton 4th degree K of C Woodlawn and a former Dean and Chaplain for Catholic Daughters of America. He served in the US Navy during Korea. He was the husband of Mary Helen Gawel Crawford. He was the father of Michael J. Crawford, Sr. and wife Robin of Hanover, PA and Mary Ann King and husband Bill of Glenwood. He was the brother of Irvin E. Crawford of Westminster and Patricia L. Bunke of Baltimore. Also survived by 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Myers, Rebecca S.
Rebecca Sue Myers 61 of Mt. Airy, MD, died Peacefully Christmas Eve, December 24, 2008 at Brinton Woods in Winfield, MD. She was born December 1, 1947 in Frederick MD the daughter of the late Dr. Lyndon B. Myers and the late Mary Lawyer Myers of Mt. Airy. When Becky was born with Down’s syndrome, her parents were advised to institutionalize. Instead they and a small group of parents from Carroll County fought to provide educational opportunities for their disabled children and in 1955 the first class was operational in a small building in Wildwood Park in Mt. Airy. Mary Myers was the teacher and the children were bused back in forth in a new station wagon that was donated by the Mt. Airy Lions Club. Becky lived at home with her parents and then 5 years with her sister and her family and in 1989 moved to an assisted living unit run by Target Community and Educational Services in Westminster, MD. Over the years Becky attended school in Johnsville and the Carroll County Center for Exceptional Children. She worked for the Carroll County Association for Retarded Citizens and then Carroll Haven or CHANGE as it is known today. She also attended the Westminster Senior Center and Family Active Day in Westminster. Becky made friends everywhere she went, shaking hands, introducing herself and asking your name. She never missed a gentleman wearing a “nice tie”. She knew all the clerks from Wal-Mart to Safeway (College Square) where she needed to visit her favorite friend, a cashier, almost daily. Surviving her are sisters, Mary Lynn Kuhn of Mt. Airy, Martha Jane and husband Ed Brown of Hedgesville, WV, Sara and husband Leslie Monk of Leigh-on-Sea, England, and Polly Ann Mazcko of Berlin, MD Brother Lyndon L. Myers of Braddock Heights. Also survived by nieces and nephews Matthew and Lyndon T. Myers, Dr. Cathy Brown and Sue Brown, John Paul and Mary Mazcko. Becky was preceded in death by brother-in-law Dr. Bern J. Kuhn and “B.J. nephew” Bernie Kuhn, Jr. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Suzanne Nicole Hardin 19 or Woodbine, MD, died suddenly in an automobile accident on Sunday December 28, 2008 in Woodbine. She was born October 2, 1989 in Baltimore County, MD. The daughter of Richard Allan Hardin and Linda Mani (Poole) Hardin of Woodbine. Ms. Hardin was a 2007 graduate of Century High School, a recent graduate of Von Lee International School of Aesthetics, She enjoyed doing hair and makeup, spending time with friends and family, listening to music, loved the beach and her dog, Scoobee. Surviving in addition to her parents are Grandparents Maurice and Rose Poole, Sr. of Woodbine and David and Ruth Buchanan of FL, Sister Beverly Hardin of Woodbine, Nephew Brayden Grochowski of Woodbine, Numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He attended Ashton Baptist Church. Enjoyed Deer Hunting, Fishing, Camping and family and friends. Charles Edgar Cowley, Sr., 50 of New Windsor, MD, died Suddenly January 18, 2006 at his home in New Windsor, MD. He was the spouse of Deborah Ann Allen Cowley of New Windsor, MD. He was born December 16, 1955 in Baltimore, MD the son of Edgar Samuel Cowley of Lakeland, FL and the late Barbara Gertrude Newton Cowley. Mr. Cowley was a supervisor for Baltimore Public Works. He was the Assistant Scout Master for Winfield Troop 733. Carl Otto Garver, age 77, of Woodbine, died Wednesday January 18, 2006 at Continuum Care in Sykesville, MD. Born January 20, 1928 in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Martha Louise and the late Carl Edward Garber. He was a farmer most of his life, but also retired from Springfield Hospital Center after 25 years of service in the maintenance Dept. Surviving are his son and daughter in law Duane Carl and Debra Garver of Winfield and granddaughter Angelique Renee Garver of Sykesville. Sister Betty Freyman of Westminster, sisters and brother in laws Virginia and Joe Battaglia, Patricia and James Frankton of Sykesville, brothers Charles Garber of Iowa, Robert Garber of Winfield and brother and sister in law James and Boots Garber of Finksburg and several nieces and nephews. Thomas, Charles H.
Charles Howard Thomas, age 63, of Westminster, died Thursday January 19, 2006 at Westminster Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Westminster, MD. He was born August 23, 1942 in Frederick County, MD, the son of the late Charles Leonard Thomas and the late Millie Elnora Thomas (nee Howard). He was educated in the Frederick County School System. After graduating from high school, he worked at Henryton State Hospital from 1960 to 1984 and then at Carroll County School Board in Westminster until retirement. Charlie worked as a custodian at Carrolltown Mall and Eldersburg Medical Center. On May 27, 1967 he was united in marriage to Pearl Cook and from this union they were blessed with the birth of two children, Brigitte and Charles, Jr. Charlie was a likeable man with many friends and was always willing to do a favor for anyone. He was an avid gardener who liked to see nature at work. He was known to have a “green thumb”. Charles leaves to cherish his memories: wife Pearl Thomas (nee Cook) and three children: daughter - Francis Forman and husband Darryl, daughter - Brigitte Thomas, and son - Charles Thomas, Jr. and wife Darnella. He is also survived by sister Regina Thomas, sister-in-laws, Bernice Wilson, Martha Cook, and Betty Cook, brother-in-law Maurice Cook, five grandchildren, Darnell Forman, Brittany Forman, Brittlynn Thomas, Deandre Thomas, and Kennedy Thomas, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and one devoted friend, Russell Williams. She was born March 2, 1928 in Indian Valley, VA the daughter of the late Mark Fuston Quesenberry and late Woodsby Ella Marshall Quesenberry. She was a homemaker. Had worked for the Baltimore County Schools in Food Service. She loved Shopping, Flowers, Gardening, and Dogs and was Co-founder of Al Kirkner and Sons also known as ABAR.
