Mrs. Mary Weddle
Mrs. Mary Lorraine Weddle, 84, of 11725 Legore Bridge Road, Keymar, died Monday, January 29, 2007, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C., after an extended illness.
Born December 26, 1922, in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Jennie Smith Horner. She was the wife of Oliver "Slats" Jacob Weddle Jr., who died in 1986.
Mrs. Weddle was a member of Oak Hill Church of God, Legore, and of the Woodsboro Food and Friends. She enjoyed southern gospel music, cooking, baking and collecting cookbooks and porcelain dolls.
Surviving are three daughters, N. Nadine McFarland of Waynesboro, Pa., Sharon L. Hyser of Frederick, S. Diane Kling and husband Larry of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sons, Oliver J. Weddle III and wife Sandy of Walkersville and Dwayne E. Weddle and wife Michele of Keymar; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Weddle was the last of her immediate family of six brothers and three sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Oak Hill Church of God. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mrs. Doris Fogle
Mrs. Doris M. Fogle, 76, of Frederick, passed over on January 29, 2007, at Golden Living Nursing Home, Frederick, after a seven-month battle with cancer.
She was the wife of Clarence M. Fogle, whom she married
on July 3, 1948.
Born Sept. 9, 1930, in Jefferson, she was the daughter of the late Lewis W. and Ella M. Thrasher Brown.
She graduated from Frederick High School, class of 1947. Doris worked at Frederick Tailoring and Muse Tailoring Co. as a seamstress. After her children were grown, she worked as a cook and server in the Frederick County Public Schools. She retired from FCPS in 1994, after more than 35 years of service.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, JoAnne Orye, Michael L. Fogle and Christine Linn Rose; two grandchildren, Peggy Dawn Orye and Jara Dee Orye; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin, Donovan and Shelby.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis W. Brown Jr.; and a sister, Mary Ruth Brown Buckner.
Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 North, Frederick, where funeral services will take place Thursday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Clustered Spires cemetery.
Floral tributes are welcome and may be delivered to the Chapel Mausoleum at the above address.

Mrs. Lori Franklin
Mrs. Lori J. Franklin, 45, formerly of Hagerstown, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 26, 2007, at Maine General Medical Center, Augusta, Maine.
She was born in Augusta, Maine, on August 2, 1961, the daughter of John S. and Lorraine E. True.
Lori was married
to Richard Hill of Augusta for 11 years, then remarried
Randy Franklin on October 20, 2000 and moved with him to Maryland. They were married
for five years. Lori attended Maranacook High School in Readfield up to the 11th grade. Although she did not attain her high school diploma on time, Lori was determined to complete her high school education and received her GED. Lori had a distinguished career working for Carleton Woolen Mills in Winthrop, Maine, for 10 years, and also at Dayken Pallet Mill in Leeds, Maine. While in Maryland, Lori started working for SAIC AKAS NIH at Fort Detrick in Frederick, a cancer research facility that is a sub-contractor for the federal government, that finds cures for various forms of cancer and AIDS. Lori was well known within the work place as a very hard worker whose work ethic and perfection put her in a class of her own. In addition to her work ethic, she was also a model employee who was a joy to work with.
Her hobbies included playing bingo, card games, watching movies, being with family and friends and watching her Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Lori wanted to give thanks to all of her friends and co-workers for their help and companionship, including Kelly Henderson of Gardiner and Virginia Lewis of Mount Vernon. A special thanks to devoted friends Luena "Buttons" Lowe, Randy Franklin and Richard Hill for their time of caring.
She was predeceased by her grandparents, Mary and Grandville Downs; and aunts, Janette Morgan and Millicent Maxim.
She is survived by her parents, John and Lorraine True of Mount Vernon; three children, Angel Burr, Angelina Hill and Frank W. Hill, all of Augusta, Maine. They meant the world to her and she hoped they would grow up to lead healthy and happy lives. She is also survived by two sisters, Mary Doiron of Jay and Maria Edwards of Maryland; a brother, Nathan Nedeau of Beltsville; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Visiting will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, Maine, where a funeral service will follow the visiting at 2 p.m. Spring burial will be in the Fayette Mills cemetery, Fayette, Maine.

Mrs. Margaret Herbert
Mrs. Margaret Louise Herbert departed this earth to go to her heavenly home on January 27, 2007.
Born on June 1, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward Naylor and Nettie Pauline Overs Naylor.
She was the wife of Samuel J. Herbert.
She graduated through the Frederick County school system.
She was a member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she served as president of the Senior Usher Board, attended Bible study and volunteered to be secretary and treasurer. She attended prayer meeting and Sunday school as well.
She worked as an acute care technician for 20 years and as a medical secretary and doctor's office assistant as well.
She was the mother of six children, Shirlene R. Thomas, Cynthia C. Dorsey and husband Leon, Frederica Bowens, Fred L. Lyles Jr. and wife Dianne, all of Frederick, Idriess U. Bowens and wife Lamika of Odenton, Donald R. Bowens and wife Donna of Buffalo, N.Y., Donrao R. Bowens of Frederick; and one foster child, Eric Poole of Buffalo, N.Y.
She had 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She leaves to mourn three brothers, Thomas E. Naylor Sr., James C. Naylor and David L. Naylor; special cousin, Mamie Tolbert and husband Theodore; Robert Naylor and wife Marie; close friends, Alyce Harris, Harriet Palmer and Elizabeth Murray; and adopted mother, Sister Virginia Smith.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Sandra Kay Palmer.
Public viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, and family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. a Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. Seventh St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, 106 E. Third Street. Interment will be at St. Paul cemetery, Della. Pastor Luke J. Robinson will officiate.
Mrs. Helen Horman
Mrs. Helen M. Horman, 84, a homemaker and mother of three, died January 24, 2007, at her home in Gaithersburg, where she had lived for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Horman was born May 10, 1922, in Monrovia, the daughter of the late Lorena Maye and Allan P. Sadtler Sr., and lived her entire life in Frederick and Montgomery counties. Her marriage to Dorsey C. Griffith was terminated by a divorce. Her second husband, Elmer A. Horman, died in 1997 after 50 years of marriage. A son from her first marriage, James Griffith, died in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter from her first marriage, Joyce DeMott of Stanwood, Michigan; a son from her second marriage, Jerry A. Horman of Germantown; two sisters, Beverly K. Rau and Jennie I. Cruickshank, both of Gaithersburg; a brother, Allan P. "Phil" Sadtler Jr. of Damascus; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three brothers, John E. Sadtler, Charles E. Sadtler and Neal B. Sadtler.
Arrangements for a memorial service will be decided by the family at a later date.
Mr. Harry Mackley
Mr. Harry Ray Mackley, 83, of Frederick, died Sunday, January 28, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Marilyn Hutton Mackley. They were married
for 59 years.
Born December 1, 1923, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Morris Albertus and Eva Pearl Weagley Mackley.
He attended the schools in Waynesboro and graduated in 1941.
Mr. Mackley served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945 as a B-17 pilot and was stationed in England. He also served in the Maryland National Guard for three years.
Mr. Mackley was employed by Potomac Edison Company for more than 39 years, mainly in the Frederick area.
In 1961 he became a minister with Jehovah's Witness in the Frederick congregation, where he served as an elder for many years. This was the work he cherished the most. He had the privilege of talking to many friends in Frederick about the good news of God's Kingdom under the rule of Jesus Christ, along with his strong faith in the resurrection to life on a Paradise Earth under that Kingdom.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two children, John R. Mackley of Round Rock, Texas, and Joyce Ann Mackley Anthony and husband William of Middletown; a sister, Peggy A. Rock; and a brother-in-law, Howard "Chic" Hutton and wife Dottie, all of Waynesboro, Pa.
Interment will be private.

Mr. Orvil Magers
Mr. Orvil Andrew Magers, age 82, of Damascus, died Sunday, January 28, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick.
He was born October 6, 1924, in Mount Airy, the son of the late Howard C. Magers and the late Evelyn I. Magers (nee Smith).
He was a self-employed carpenter for 27 years. He was also a bus driver.
He was a member of Howard-Ridgeville United Methodist Church in Long Corner. He was a life member of Amvets, Frederick, and a life member of the VFW No. 1076, Mount Airy.
He loved music and dancing.
He was the father of Brenda Souders and husband James of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Marilyn Shifflett of Damascus and the late husband Frank Shifflett Jr.
He was the dear brother of Emma Snowden of Mount Airy and the late Ruth Frizzell, late Howard C. Magers, late Edna Gartrell and the late Sylvia Beall.
He is also survived by four grandchildren, Sherry Minnick and husband Mark of Middletown, Terry Shifflett of Damascus, Daryl Shifflett of Damascus and Keith Hubble and wife Risa of Frederick; one great-granddaughter, Ashley Minnick; and a special friend, Donna Davis of Damascus.
Friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield (beside South Carroll High School) on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a VFW Mount Airy Post No.1076 Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m.
Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Mount Airy.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at Howard Chapel-Ridgeville United Methodist Church, 1970 Long Corner Road, Mount Airy, with the Rev. Donald Howard and the Rev. Stephen White officiating.

Mr. Abraham Martin
Mr. Abraham James Martin, 85, of Smithsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 28, at his home.
Born March 28, 1921, near Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Paul Henry and Pearl Marie Kinsey Martin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Lefa Martin, on Aug. 4, 2003. they were married
Nov. 9, 1940.
He graduated from Smithsburg High School, class of 1939, was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Navy; employed by Fairfield Aircraft, Pangborn Corporation, Grove Manufacturing, and Waynesboro Design. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wolfsville.
He is survived by three daughters, Joann Willard and husband Harold of Foxville, Beverly F. Smith and husband Dave of Hagerstown and Sharon P. Johnston and husband Mike of Sykesville; eight grandchildren, Jack Willard, Cheryl Fredrikis and husband Tony, Michael Willard, Rhonda Conner and husband Gordon, Devena Dunkin and husband J.R., Dave Smith Jr. and wife Julie, Amber Dagenhart and husband Bill and Rachel Johnston; 10 great-grandchildren, Angela Young, Justin Willard, Tara and Kyle Fredrikis, Raven and Travis Conner, Corey and Jeremy Dunkin and Wesley and Timothy Dagenhart.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Martin Miller and Genevieve Martin Reese.
Services will be held Thursday, at 2 p.m., from St. Mark's Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Howell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mark's Lutheran Church cemetery. Family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
Mr. Charles Mercer
Mr. Charles Edward Mercer, 76, of Frederick, died Sunday, January 28, 2007, at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary (Parrish) Mercer.
Born on July 2, 1929, in Legore, he was a son of the late Frank John and Mary Elizabeth (Staub) Mercer.
Mr. Mercer attended the Frederick Church of the Brethren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He enjoyed camping with his family at Chincoteague, fishing, boating, bowling and shooting pool. He was a great father and grandfather and was loved by everyone.
Surviving, beside his wife, is a son, Charles L. Mercer and wife Patty of Middletown; daughters, Kathy Staley and husband Garry Staley Sr. of Frederick and Candy Mercer of Frederick; eight grandchildren, Christine Palmer, Tita Maher, Brenda Tregoning, Chantelle Price, Garry Staley Jr., Ashton Mercer, Jaedyn Bugg and Anthony Bugg Jr.; four brothers, Leonard L. Mercer of Frederick, Jack Mercer of Brookville, Fla., John Mercer of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Paul Mercer of Frederick; two sisters, Betty Stone of Limesville and Shirley Springer of Jefferson.
He was preceded in death by two children, Wanda Tregoning and Wayne Mercer; three brothers, Melvin, Jessie and Lloyd Mercer; five sisters, Daisey M. Stitley, Joan Snoots, Florence Watson, Geraldine Lowe and Anabel Sherman.
Family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home Thursday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Michael Watson officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.
