Mr. Roy Fincham
Dated: Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Mr. Roy Raymond Fincham, 62, of Ijamsville, died Monday, April 2, at his home.

He was the husband of Patricia Ann Walzak Fincham.

Born Dec. 4, 1938, in Silver Spring, he was a son of the late Aubrey Monroe and Evelyn O. Gooding Fincham.

Mr. Fincham was an elevator mechanic and worked for Montgomery Kone Elevator Co. from 1963 to 1999. He was a member of Local 10 Union in Washington.

He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Darby in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs operation.

He loved deep sea fishing, going crabbing and in his earlier days he enjoyed hunting.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Diane Lynn Hinojosa and husband Carlos of Ijamsville, and Evelyn A. Halich and husband Andrew of Smithsburg; four grandchildren, Victoria McGraw, Carlos Hinojosa Jr., Margaret Hinojosa and Renee Halich; one sister, Evelyn E. Mitchell of North Carolina; one brother-in-law, James Walzak and wife Hope of Stevensville; one sister-in-law, Johanna Schamehorn and husband William of Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fincham will also be remembered by his friends, Beverly Bangs and son Robert of Frederick, Jack Bangs of Severn, Russell and Diane Scott of Olney, the Michael Mulligan family of Crownsville, and Joan and Bill Koritzka of Baltimore.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mount Airy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 4103 Prices Distillery Road, Ijamsville.

Entombment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., Frederick, Md. 21701.

Sister Amelia Bell
Dated: Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Sister Amelia Bell, 83, Daughters of Charity, St. Joseph's Provincial House, Emmitsburg, died Tuesday, April 3, of congestive heart failure, at Villa St. Michael, the province's retirement residence in Emmitsburg.

She was born in Norfolk, Va.

Sister Amelia entered the Daughters of Charity in 1935. She began her 54-year ministry in education as an elementary teacher at St. John's School, Baltimore. She also taught elementary grades at St. John's Girl's School in Baltimore; St. Ann's School, Bridgeport, Conn., and mathematics at Bishop England High School, Charleston, S.C.

In the years following, Sister Amelia was principal and local superior at St. Peter's Cathedral, Wilmington, Del.; Holy Cross Regional School, Lynchburg, Va.; St. Joseph School, Martinsburg, W.Va.; and St. Joseph High School, Emmitsburg.

She also taught English at Cardinal McCloskey High School, Albany, N.Y., and Elizabeth Seton High School, Bladensburg. During the years 1976-1980, Sister Amelia taught English at Immaculate Conception Academy, Washington. In 1981, she was appointed guidance counselor and subsequently served four years at Immaculate Conception Academy; two years at All Saints High School, Washington, and four years at St. Patrick School, Richmond, Va. in that duty.

Her assignments also included a brief appointment in pastoral care at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, and as coordinator of CCD at St. Martin Parish, Baltimore.

In 1991, Sister Amelia was assigned to the staff of Villa St. Michael and remained there until last year when she retired from active duty, due to failing health.

Surviving are three sisters, Ann Bishton of Norfolk, Nancy Bramble of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Peggy Seagrave of Downingtown, Pa.; one brother, Patrick Vincent Bell of Ashland, Ky.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Emmitsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Daughters of Charity Support Fund for the Elderly and Infirm Sisters, 333 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, Md. 21727.

Mr. Warren Hughes
Dated: Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Mr. Warren A. Hughes, 84, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Friday, March 9, in Phoenix.

He was born in Washington in 1916.

Mr. Hughes moved to Frederick County in early 1955. He was comptroller at Fort Detrick from 1955 through May, 1957.

He was a retired FBI special agent, and had lived in Phoenix since 1958.

At the time of his death, he was a volunteer at the Alzheimer's Association, Phoenix chapter, where he had helped for five years.

Surviving are one daughter, Bonnie Marcus of Shaker Heights, Ohio; two sons, Barton Hughes of Gold Canyon, Ariz., and Forden Hughes of Middletown; one sister, Virginia Carlton of Harwood; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Greater Phoenix Chapter, 1028 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix, Ariz. 85006-2622.

Mr. Joseph Welch
Dated: Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Mr. Joseph Carroll "Spanky" Welch, 63, of Laurel, died Monday, April 2, at Laurel Regional Hospital.

He was the husband of Evelyn Martello-Welch.

Born March 15, 1938, in Laurel, he was a son of Mary Farrell Athey and the late Andrew Welch.

He was employed for the State Road Commission in maintenance.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are three daughters, Karen Smith of New Market, and Debbie Foulks and Cindy Welch, both of Laurel; one son, Joseph Welch of Washington state; three sisters, Edna Harmon and Carmella Jackson, both of Frederick and Lucy Hepperle of Hurlock; one brother, Louis Carotenuto of Laurel; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Welch; and one daughter, Dee-Dee Welch.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave., Laurel. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home with Deacon Jack Ponzette, of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating.

Interment will be private.

Mr. James Miller
Dated: Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Mr. James Philley "Jack" Miller, 88, of Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg, Pa., died Monday, April 22, at Gettysburg Hospital.

He was the husband of Ruth Royer Miller.

Born Sept. 9, 1912, in Old Saybrook, Conn., he was a son of the late Leon and Sophia Philley Miller.

Mr. Miller was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Ruth Creager of Madeira Beach, Fla., and Alta Bauer of Lyme, Conn.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Miller.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, April 6, at 2 p.m. at Germantown Bethel Church of God, Raven Rock Road, Cascade. The Rev. Jane Holmes Dixon, Episcopal Bishop of Washington, will officiate.

Interment will be private in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 44 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg, Pa. 17325.

Mrs. Myra Dorsey
Dated: Thursday, April 5, 2001.
Mrs. Myra Viola Dorsey, 106, formerly of Woodsboro, died Tuesday, April 3, at College View Center, Frederick.

She was the wife of the late Kenley Dorsey.

Born Jan. 27, 1895, near Woodsboro, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Laura Beard Fogle.

Mrs. Dorsey was a member of Grace Rocky Hill Lutheran Church, near Woodsboro.

She loved gardening, home canning, sewing and enjoyed visiting and caring for others in her community.

Surviving are one daughter, Viola Ramsburg of Walkersville; one daughter-in-law, Evelyn Dorsey Smith of Frederick; 10 grandchildren, Donald Dorsey, Shirley King, Grayson Ramsburg Sr., Gary Dorsey, Wanda Stone, Ronald Nusbaum, Edward Nusbaum, Glenn Nusbaum, Wayne Nusbaum and Robert Nusbaum; 18 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Dorsey will also be remembered by her friends Pat and Floyd Rhinecker of Damascus.

Mrs. Dorsey was preceded in death by one daughter, Elva Nusbaum; three sons, LeRoy Dorsey, and twins Sherman and Norman Dorsey; and five sisters, Carrie Wilhide, Hazel Mehrling, Etta Kline, Della DeBerry and Mildred Lippy.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, at the funeral home with Mrs. Dorsey's pastor, the Rev. Richard P. Rutkauskas Jr., officiating.

Interment will be in Rocky Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Ethel Pryor
Dated: Thursday, April 5, 2001.
Mrs. Ethel I. "Nannie" Pryor, 86, of Fahrney-Keedy Home, Boonsboro, formerly of Wolfsville, died Tuesday, April 3, at the home.

She was the wife of the late Harry J. Pryor Sr. who died in 1974.

Born Dec. 21, 1914, in Phillips Delight, Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Albert Earl and Della Mae Peomroy Harne.

She attended school in Frederick County. She was a homemaker and had been in dairy farming with her husband prior to his death.

She was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown for 50 years, and a member of the Keenagers of Grace Brethren.

She enjoyed quilting. In her earlier years, she donated food from her garden to feed the less fortunate.

She is survived by two sons, Robert L. Pryor of Wolfsville, and Paul R. Pryor of Smithsburg; one brother, Francis Harne of Middletown; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and daughter Rosalie M. Munch; two sons, Harry J. Pryor Jr. and George L. Pryor; four sisters, Mary Pryor, Edna Grossnickle, Catherine Baker and Beatrice Zecker; and one brother, James Harne.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, at Grace Brethren Church, 837 Spruce St., Hagerstown, with the Revs. Dean Pryor and George Traub officiating.

Interment will be in Garfield United Methodist cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Brethren Church Mission, 837 Spruce St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Mr. Harold Martin
Dated: Thursday, April 5, 2001.
Mr. Harold Albert "Harry" Martin, 57, of New Windsor, died Tuesday, April 3, at his home, after a long illness with colon cancer.

He was the husband of Linda Carol Carr Martin, his wife of 38 years.

Born May 1, 1943, in Portsmouth, Va., he was a son of the late James Archie and Vicie Hanson Martin.

Mr. Martin was a professional truck driver for 35 years.

He was a member of the Church of the Open Door, Westminster.

He was a 1962 graduate of Francis Scott Key High School.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Robert Neal Martin and wife Cynthia of New Windsor, David Duane Martin and wife Sandy of Union Bridge, and Stephanie Janenice Brown and husband John of Hampstead; three brothers, James Martin and wife Myrtle of Gettysburg, Pa., Robert Martin and wife Janet of Westminster, and Harlan Martin and wife Patricia of Silver Run; two sisters, Virginia Hoff and husband Raymond of Westminster, and Helen Loar and husband John of Fort Ashley, W.Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by one son, James Gregory Martin, May 17, 1994.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 5, and Friday, April 6, at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Winfield.

Friends may also call from 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, until the time of funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Church of the Open Door, 550 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster. Pastor Norris E. Belcher Jr., of Church of the Open Door, will officiate, assisted by Pastors Larry Staner, Richard Grammer and Chuck Buettner, all of the Church of the Open Door.

Interment will be in Bethel Methodist cemetery, 3001 Hooper Road, New Windsor.

Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 95 Carroll St., Westminster, Md., or to Church of the Open Door, 550 Baltimore Boulevard, Westminster, Md. 21157.
