Martin F. DRAIN, Sr.
On Tuesday, May 12, 2009, Martin F. Drain, Sr.of Silver Spring, formerly of Hyattsville, MD. He was the beloved husband of 62 years of Isabel F. Drain. He was the devoted brother of the late Mercedes D. Olmert. The loving father of Mercedes (Dick) Kearney, the late Madelon (John) Butler, Peggy Lawrence, and Martin F. (Cheri) Drain, Jr. He was also loved and cherished by 12 grandchildren. A 1947 graduate of Southeastern University he worked at the Bureau of Ships during World War II and spent his career as an aerospace engineer involved in the space programs, helping train astronauts for Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and Space Shuttle missions eventually retiring from Lockheed Martin. He was an honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus and served as an usher for Our Lady of Sorrows in Takoma Park and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. She completed her BS at Pennsylvania State University. While studying in Heidelberg, she met her husband John then an USAF Officer.
