Martha M. Reeder
Martha Maria Reeder, 68, of 1420 Marshall St., died Monday, July 6, 1998, at her home.
Born March 4, 1930, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Belle M. Burger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph William Reeder, in 1995.
She was a 1948 graduate of St. Mary's High School and a 1949 graduate of Hagerstown Business College.
She previously was employed by Ernest V. Wachs, Esq.; Fairchild Aircraft; and Washington County Board of Education.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Kristi A. Daley of Hagerstown; two sons, Richard W. Reeder and Randy W. Reeder, both of Hagerstown; three sisters, Mary Myers of Williamsport, Hazel Bowers and Alice Rowe, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Charles "Dick" Burger of Hagerstown; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by infant twin sons, Ralph W. Reeder and Robert W. Reeder; four sisters, Violet Spielman, Lucille Brandenburg, Mabel Hoopengardner and Delphine Head; and four brothers, Albert Burger, William Edward Burger, Paul Burger and John H. Burger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 226 W. Washington St. Msgr. Robert S. Passarelli will be celebrant. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Zelda M. Wade
Zelda May Strole Wade, who died Monday, July 6, 1998, was the daughter of the late Ott Strole and Laura Shockey Strole Powell.
Robert E. Gossard
WILLIAMSPORT - Robert Elmer "Bobby" Gossard, 74, of 38 W. Frederick St., died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Sept. 25, 1923, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late David Elmer and Ethel Myrtle Whittington Gossard.
He did custodial work for Jeanne's Confectionery, and previously for Leaf Funeral Home, both of Williamsport.
He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsport, where he helped with the monthly newsletter.
He volunteered at area nursing homes.
He is survived by three nephews, Phil Murray, Jack P. Murray Sr. and Joel Murray, all of Williamsport; a great niece, Meghan Murray of Williamsport; and a special friend, Michelle Pinieski of Williamsport.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Marie Murray and Pauline Downey; and one brother, David Ralph Gossard.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 37 W. Potomac St., Williamsport. The Rev. W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Verna C. Racey
Verna Cleo Racey, 67, of 1020C Noland Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 9, 1930, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Florence Martin Stewart.
She was a member of Pentecostal Church.
She was a volunteer with Red Cross and Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
She is survived by her husband, Pastor James Racey; one daughter, Carol Eaton of Lusk, Wyo.; two sons, James Calvin Racey of Tempe, Ariz., and Jeffrey Lynn Racey of Hagerstown; one sister, Anita Iser of Keyser; two brothers, Harold Stewart of Texas and Allen Stewart of Baltimore; three granddaughters; three grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ruth L. Sampson
Ruth Lee Sampson, 76, of 17520 York Road, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at her home.
Born Jan. 13, 1922, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lewis F. and Agnes Spidell Harrison.
She was a 1940 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She was employed with Washington County Sanitation Commission, retiring in 1984. She previously was employed with G. Walter Smith Grain Brokerage; and Leiter Brothers Department Store.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was a member of Halfway Fire Company Auxiliary; and AARP.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Leslie Sampson; two nieces, Ann L. Keplinger and Gloria Jean Embly, both of Hagerstown; and one nephew, Robert J. Harrison of Indianapolis.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Mark A. Sandell will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Suzanne M. Fischel
Suzanne Martin Fischel, 54, of 13348 Clopper Road, Hagerstown, died Monday, July 6, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 16, 1944, in Woodbury, Conn., she was the daughter of Charlotte Needy Martin of Waynesboro, Pa., and the late S. Harold Martin.
She was a 1962 graduate of Waynesboro High School. She was a 1966 graduate of Shippensburg University with a bachelor of arts in education.
She had been employed since 1974 at Long Meadow Animal Hospital, Hagerstown.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro.
She was a member of Cumberland Valley Fourwheelers, Hagerstown.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert C. Fischel, whom she married April 22, 1977; one daughter, Sandra Abel of Walland, Tenn.; five sons, Jon Kann of Winchester, Va., Chris Kann of Woodbridge, Va., Robert Fischel of Ashburn, Va., Jeffrey Fischel of McLean, Va., and Eric Whittemore of Narragansett, R.I.; one sister, Jean Cordell of Salisbury, Md.; one brother, Samuel H. Martin of Greencastle, Pa.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. James T. Williams will officiate.

KEEDYSVILLE - Chleo Snyder Burtner, 94, of 20 S. Main St., who died Monday, July 6, 1998, was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline S. Wisherd.
Wilson W. Carnes Jr.
POINT OF ROCKS, Md. - Wilson Woodrow "Woody" Carnes Jr., of Point of Rocks, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998.
He was the son of Wilson W. and Betty L. Carnes Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Nicolette Jeanine Sobel Carnes; and two sisters, Alice Carnes Richbourg and Elizabeth Carnes Burtner.
Graveside service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Mount Comfort Cemetery.

Violet F. Roberts
Violet F. "Sue" Barton Roberts, 78, of 101 Third St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born June 18, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William Harvey and Ella Mae Smith Barton.
Her husband, Joseph E. Roberts Sr., died in 1979.
She was a member of Zion Reformed Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Josephine E. Roberts Custer, Rita M. Roberts Marshall Artz and Gloria J. Bryan, all of Hagerstown; one son, Joseph E. Roberts Jr. of Smithsburg; a special friend, Robert "Red" Slusher of Hagerstown; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley A. McNamee; and a grandson, Larry E. Bryan.
A memorial service will be held today at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Douglas James Holliday will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.
J. Edmund Turnock
The Rev. J. Edmund Turnock, 76, of 16911 Warbler Court, Hagerstown, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at his home.
Born Oct. 17, 1921, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Joseph Edmund and Gertrude Browning Turnock.
He was a 1944 graduate of Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky.
He was an elder with Church of the Nazarene. His 50 years of ministry experience took him throughout the country. He was a planning commissioner in upstate New York and a chaplain in the Prison Ministry Program. He was affiliated with Billy Graham Ministries, as film director in Canada. For 20 years, he hosted three Christian Radio Broadcasts, "Way of Life," "Day End" and "Wake Up with Ed."
He was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene.
He served on the the Commission on Aging.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie M. Turnock; one son, the Rev. John James Turnock of Williamsport; one sister, Mildred Turnock of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene, 141 N. Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard A. Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
The viewing will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
