George L. McCreary

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - George L. McCreary, 77, of Knoxville, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Park West Hospital, Knoxville.

Born Jan. 15, 1921, in Kansas, he was the son of the late George and Opal Landrath McCreary.

His wife, Madeline Williams McCreary, preceded him in death.

He retired from the Internal Revenue Service.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by a daughter, Marcia Lemons of Knoxville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund E. McCreary.

Services will be private.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Rebecca S. Fox

Rebecca Susan Fox, 89, formerly of 110 North Ave., Hagerstown, died Friday, April 17, 1998, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.

Born Aug. 14, 1908, in Page County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John E. and Viola C. Purdham Bywaters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry R. Fox.

She was a member of the First Christian Church.

She had been employed with the R&G Department Store.

She is survived by a brother, John S. Bywaters of Washington, D.C.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Boonsboro Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parish Nurse Program in care of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, 15 S. Mulberry St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Richard P. Beckley Sr.

FREDERICK, Md. - Richard Perry Beckley Sr., 85, of 9803 Fox Road, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 27, 1912, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Milton Guy and Nancy Kanode Beckley.

His first wife, Blanche Irene Brant Beckley, died in 1972.

He owned and operated Beckley's Motel until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of Francis Scott Key Antiques Car Club, Antique Automobile Club of America, and Packard Club. He was a past president of Frederick County Tourism Council. He was active in the building of the U.S. 15 Information Center in 1983. He developed Catoctin Manor Estates in the 1960s and 1970s.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel Charlotte Dailey Beckley; three sons, Richard Perry Beckley Jr. of Eagle Bay, N.Y., and Robert Lee Beckley and Michael Ray Beckley, both of Frederick; a sister, Louise Creel of Frederick; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Eugene Beckley; and a grandson.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Home, 1201 N. Market St., Frederick. The Rev. Matthew Poole will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens near Frederick.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home between 1 and 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Kathryn M. Meister

LAUREL, Md. - Kathryn M. Meister, 79, of Laurel, died Thursday, April 23, 1998, at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md.

She was born June 26, 1918, in Ridgeley, W.Va.

Her husband, Edward O. Meister Sr., died in 1985.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Laurel.

She also was a member of Laurel Moose, and Phelps Senior Citizens Friendship Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Carr of Laurel, and Nancy Crowne of Easley, S.C.; five sons, John Meister of Frankford, Del., Charles Meister of Martinsburg, W.Va., James Meister and Edward Meister Jr., both of Laurel, and Richard Meister of Malvern, Pa.; one brother, Emory Calvin Metger of Hagerstown; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, David Meister.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Laurel. The Rev. Jon Diefenthaler will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Burtonsville, Md.

Memorial donations may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 13611 Laurel Bowie Road, Laurel, Md. 20708.

Elizabeth A. Mason

ROHRERSVILLE - Elizabeth Aileene Snyder Mason, 81, of 4565 Locust Grove Road, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Fahrney-Keedy Home in Boonsboro.

Born May 27, 1916, in Rohrersville, she was the daughter of the late Daniel H. and Carrie E. Rohrer Snyder.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Mount Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Locust Grove, and the True Blue Sunday School. She also was a former Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Harry Mason, whom she married Feb. 8, 1936; four daughters, Dorothy A. Moser and Betty J. Violet, both of Rohrersville, Marie E. Bikle and Janet L. Norris, both of Boonsboro; three sons, Donald C. Mason and David K. Mason, both of Rohrersville, and Richard H. Mason of Keedysville; one sister, Martha R. Snyder of Rohrersville; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary E. Snyder; one brother, John D. Snyder; and one grandson.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Blaine E. Feightner will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Locust Grove. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Edyth M. Young

Edyth May Young, 97, of 901 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at her home.

Born May 8, 1900, in Berryville, Va., she was the daughter of the late George E. and Mary Mostellea Kercheval Barr.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Bostetter Young, in 1962.

She was a former member of the Women's Club and Fountain Head Country Club.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane Young Paddock of Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Maryle Allison Mondschein of Fairfax, Va.; two grandsons, Mark Lowell Paddock of Ocean City, Md., and Scott Russell Paddock of Hagerstown; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, John Bostetter Young; one sister; nine brothers; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 N. Eastern Blvd. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Visitation will be a half hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Father Flanaghan's Boys Home or the charity of your choice.

John T. Trimble

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - John Terrence Trimble, 63, of Gainesville, formerly of Hagerstown, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at his home.

He was born in Pittsburgh.

He was a retired programmer for International Business Machines.

He was a member of the Museum Associates of Florida Natural History Museum.

He is survived by his wife, Diana M. Kirkpatrick of Gainesville; one daughter, Joan Green of St. Louis, Mo.; one son, Jack Trimble of Damascus, Md.; one stepson, David Rorabaugh of Arlington, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Kimberly A. Combs

BUCKEYSTOWN, Md. - Kimberly Ann Totten Combs, 34, 5934 Woodbine Road, Woodbine, Md., died Monday, April 27, 1998, at the home of her sister in Buckeystown.

Born Jan. 4, 1964, in Bethesda, Md., she was the daughter of Joseph and Carol Brigham Cantler of Keedysville.

She was a 1982 graduate of Frederick High School.

She was a member of Cornerstone Alliance Church in Winfield, Md.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Lynn N. Combs; one daughter, Lindsey M. Combs, at home; one son, Eric A. Combs, at home; and two sisters, Wendy Lewis of Buckeystown and Lisa Tritipoe of Frederick.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown, Md. The Rev. Thomas George will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Reuben J. Shiflett Jr.

WILLIAMSPORT - Reuben John "Buddy" Shiflett Jr., 58, of 15319 Clear Spring Road, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born July 19, 1939, in Silver Spring, Md., he was the son of the late Reuben John "Skip" and Frances Elizabeth "Libby" Cosgrove Shiflett Sr.

He was employed as a security officer with Facility Security Inc. of VEPCO in Dickerson, Md., until his retirement in 1982. He was previously a mechanic at various auto service departments in the area.

He was a member of AARP, Hagerstown Quarter Midget Association, North American Rod and Gun Club, Funkstown Fish and Game Club, Catoctin Fish and Game Club, and Potomac Fish and Game Club.

He is survived by his wife, Irma Bowman Shiflett of Williamsport; one daughter, Theresa Shiflett-Moats of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sons, Joseph Laurence Shiflett of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Reuben J. Shiflett III of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Shiflett of Mount Airy, Md.; three brothers, the Rev. Milton Eugene Wolfe of LaPlata, Md., William Daniel Wolfe of Germantown, Md., and Charles Elmer Wolfe of Kensington, Md.; eight grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Lee Shiflett.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel of Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Bryan Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Butler's Chapel Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.

Patricia A. Waters

Patricia Ann Waters, 65, of Washington Garden Apartments, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Williamsport Retirement Village.

Born Nov. 4, 1932, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Lottie Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melton Floyd Waters.

She was a member of Hagerstown Bible Church and Crystal Cathedral.

She is survived by two daughters, Sherie Waters Howell of Huntingtown, Md., and Tina Mae Waters of Funkstown; one son, Robert Ray Waters of Manteo, N.C.; three sisters, Romaine Moser of Boonsboro, Edna Rohrer of Westminster, Md., and Faybelle Kessinger of Hagerstown; one brother, Kenneth Anderson of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Anderson; and three brothers, Harold Anderson, Edwin Anderson and Richard Anderson.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hagerstown Bible Church, 203 Summit Ave. The Rev. Steve Howell and the Rev. Dale R. Carver will officiate.
