Richard E. Hawbaker
CLEAR SPRING - Richard Eugene "Hoss" Hawbaker, 54, a resident of Clearview Nursing Home and formerly of 13915 Dry Run Road, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Nov. 16, 1943, in Clear Spring, he was the son of Alice Jane Rubeck Hawbaker Keckler of Clear Spring and the late Lester Robert Hawbaker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Camelia Jean Moore Hawbaker, in 1982.
Prior to his disability, he was employed by Brandt Cabinet Works of Hagerstown and by Oliver Homes as a painter.
He attended the Blairs Valley First Church of God.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 1790, Mercersburg, Pa., and the Mercersburg American Legion. He was a member of the Mason-Dixon Dragway.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Robert C. Keckler; one daughter, Amy D. Mowen of Clear Spring; two sisters, Dorothy Hoffman of Hagerstown and Clara Clever of Greencastle, Pa.; five brothers, Robert Hawbaker, Sam Hawbaker and Max Hawbaker, all of Hagerstown, and David Hawbaker and Gary "Pete" Hawbaker, both of Clear Spring; and two grandsons.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Jeffrey Hawbaker will officiate. Burial will be in Blairs Valley Cemetery, Clear Spring.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Madaline E. Jones
Madaline Elizabeth Jones, 69, of 301 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 20, 1928, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry B. and Mary K. Kendell Zimmerman.
Her husband, Frank Jones, preceded her in death.
She is survived by three sons, Richard Stover of Williamsport, Lewis Lucas and Charles Branchman, both of Hagerstown; three sisters, Helen Loveless and Connie Loveless, both of Hagerstown, and Mildred Yost of Clear Spring; four brothers, Donald Zimmerman, Harold Zimmerman, Edward Zimmerman and Wilbur Zimmerman, all of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in Leitersburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Benjamin C. Vaughn
Benjamin Charles Vaughn, infant son of James Brian Vaughn and Gretchen H. Porter Vaughn of Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Faith Porter of Ringold, Md; maternal grandfather, William Porter of Easton, Md.; paternal grandmother, Donna Vaughn of Martinsburg, W.Va.; paternal grandfather, Harry Vaughn of Clear Spring; maternal great-grandmother, Pauline Miles of Ringold; paternal great-grandmother, Sarah Fritz of Falling Waters, W.Va.; and paternal stepgrandmother, Kimberly Vaughn of Clear Spring.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Alan M. Greijack will officiate. Burial will be in Ringold Cemetery.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Margaret A. Johnson
SMITHSBURG - Margaret A. Johnson, 96, of Smithsburg, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 2, 1902, near Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Martin Luther and Mary Susan Martin Leatherman.
Her husband, Paul William Johnson, died in 1974.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary G. Zimmerman of Hagerstown; five sons, Paul W. Johnson Jr. of Cavetown, Nevin L. Johnson of Hagerstown, Donald Johnson of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and J. Aldene Johnson and Adrian Ray Johnson, both of Smithsburg; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Glenn Johnson; and two brothers, Dr. Luther Kenneth Leatherman and J. Martin Leatherman.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Cemetery in Clear Spring. Bryan R. Bailey, minister, will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Betty L. Morris
MAUGANSVILLE - Betty L. Butler Morris, 67, of Maugansville, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 25, 1930, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Freida Armel Butler.
She had retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Marschner and Barbara Ann Albright, both of Hagerstown; and three grandsons.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William Butler; and one grandson, Thomas Vincent Noll.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. Martinsburg.
Rudolph M. Simpson
WILDWOOD, Fla. - Rudolph M. Simpson, 82, of Wildwood, formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Dec. 25, 1997, in Wildwood.
Born Sept. 6, 1915, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Clyde and Bessie Simpson.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Dolores Lorraine Simpson, in 1987.
He retired from the U.S. Navy with more than 20 years service. He served in World War II and the Korean War.
He was a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by one daughter, Sherry Ann Honour of Charlottesville, Va.; one son, Thomas R. Simpson of St. Augustine, Fla.; three sisters, Janet Miller Washington, Mary Lee Kidwell and Dorothy Wilson, both of Martinsburg; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg. The Rev. Owen Womack will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Lena M. Shives
MAUGANSVILLE - Lena Merle Shives, 93, a resident of Mennonite Old People's Home in Maugansville, and formerly of Ernstville, Md., who died Saturday, April 11, 1998, is survived by two nephews.
Earl E. O'Brian, Jr.
Earl E. O'Brian, Jr., 66, of Hagerstown, died April 21, 1998, at his home.
Born Jan. 12, 1932, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., he was the son of the late Earl E. O'Brian, Sr. and S. Ann Liggett O'Brian.
He was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and Franklin and Marshall College. He received his master's degree from Ohio State University.
He was vice president of finance/comptroller for Trendlines Inc., retiring in 1995. He formerly was employed at Carborundum for 22 years and at American Molding.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.
He was a member and past president of Suburban Kiwanis Club and past president of the Community Concert Association. He was a member of SCORE, Delta Sigma Phi, and Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.
He is survived by his wife, Mary J. O'Brian of Hagerstown; one daughter, Carol O. Stoeber of Gaithersburg, Md.; one son, David E. O'Brian of West Chester, Pa.; one brother William L. O'Brian of Houston; five grandchildren; two nieces; and three nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Boulevard North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard W. Simpson and Rev. J. Robert Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler, Pa., on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Helen E. Donaldson
Helen E. Donaldson, 91, of 102 E. Magnolia Ave., died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at Homewood Retirement Center, Williamsport.
Born Aug. 30, 1906, in Thurmont, Md., she was the daughter of the late William J. and Anna M. Winebrenner Eigenbrode.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Donaldson, in 1977.
She was a 1925 graduate of Waynesboro High School, Waynesboro, Pa.
She was an executive secretary with the American Red Cross, retiring in 1971, and was with the Polio Foundation for eight years.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown.
She was a past member of the Hagerstown Women's Club, the Historical Society and the Business and Professional Women's Association. She was a member of the Morris Frock American Legion Auxiliary, Post 42.
She is survived by one son, William C. Donaldson of Hagerstown; two grandsons, Allan K. Donaldson of Williamsport and Scott B. Donaldson of Blacksburg, Va.; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Ailstock will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield Union Cemetery, Fairfield, Pa.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday one hour prior to the service.

Stephen W. Fink
Stephen W. "Steve" Fink, 81, a resident of Garlock Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of Holly Place Personal Care and 268 S. Potomac St., died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born July 1, 1916, in Millstone, Md., he was the son of the late Jacob A. and Alice Baker Fink.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Ensminger Weber Fink, in 1982.
Early in life he was a truck driver for Green Spring Water, Hagerstown. He later retired from Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown, where he was a truck driver and supervisor.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; Morris Frock American Legion, Post 42; the former Loyal Order of Moose, Hagerstown; and United Autos Workers Union.
He is survived by one daughter, Betty L. Fletcher of Hagerstown; and one son, Eugene "Harry" Fink of Hagerstown; one sister, Anne Harrison of Mechanicsville, Md.; one brother, Neal Fink of Havre De Grace, Md.; two grandchildren; and stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a companion, Mary Lantz; a sister, Eleanor Sprigs; and two brothers, Carl Fink and Vince Fink.
Services will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, Pa. The Rev. Robert S. Edmundson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
