Clifford E. Cordell

HALFWAY - Clifford Edward Cordell, 84, of Halfway, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Aug. 28, 1913, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Roy Wingert and Elsie Clever Cordell.

He was a lifetime member of Western Maryland Sportsmen's Club Inc., and a member of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society and the American Association for Retired People.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hedderman Cordell; two daughters, Rosalie M. Miller of Hagerstown and Judy A. Myers of Spring Hill, Fla.; three sisters, Anna Freet and Hulda Russell, both of Chambersburg, Pa., and Fay Hoke of Greencastle, Pa.; two brothers, Ross Cordell of Waynesboro, Pa., and Donald Cordell of Greencastle; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Cordell (infant) and Herbert Cordell.

Private graveside services will be in Rest Haven Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown.

Ralph M. Baker

Ralph M. Baker, 88, of 20 E. Washington St. in Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at his home.

Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late James Vinson and Elizabeth May Slick Baker.

He attended Leitersburg School.

He was a retired employee of the Local Cab Co.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, stationed in Africa, where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1936 in Hagerstown.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St. The Rev. J. Norman Mayer will officiate. Burial will be in Rocky Gap Veteran's Cemetery in Flintstone, Md.

Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service.

William R. Thomas Sr.

William Russell Thomas Sr., 61, of 537 Salem Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at his home.

Born June 8, 1936, in Williamsport, he was the son of Michael G. Thomas of Baltimore and the late Kathleen L. Gregg.

He was a self-employed painter. He was previously employed by Potomac Property Management.

He was a member of The Fraternal Order of Eagle Post 694 and a former member of Hagerstown Redmen.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Wilma Elaine Vulgamott Thomas; four daughters, Cathy J. Gipe of Hancock, April L. Thomas of Falling Waters, W.Va., Kitty Langlinais and Judy Turner, both of Texas; three sons, William R. Thomas Jr., Lawrence E. Thomas, and Timothy R. Thomas, all of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Jeanne M. Baker of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Thomas.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., in Hagerstown. The Rev. Larry A. Westcott will officiate.

The family will greet friends following services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Edward E. Lushbaugh Sr.

Edward Ellsworth Lushbaugh Sr., 80, of 61 S. Colonial Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at his home.

Born Sept. 24, 1917, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Lester and Alice Gearheart Lushbaugh.

He was retired from M. J. Grove/Genstar.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge 378 and Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Elgin Lushbaugh; four sons, Edward E. Lushbaugh Jr. of Sharpsburg, Eldon (Donnie) Lushbaugh of Richmond, Va., Jack Eugene Lushbaugh and Larry Willis Lushbaugh, both of Hagerstown; two sisters, Mary Arlene Taylor and Helen Theresa Gilliam of Hagerstown; one brother, Leonard (Pat) Lushbaugh of Funkstown; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton Lushbaugh and Lester Lushbaugh.

The Elks Lodge 378 will conduct a memorial service Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home one hour prior to services.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

E. Pearl Moats

WILLIAMSPORT - E. Pearl Moats, 78, of 7733 Dam 4 Road, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born on March 15, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Presgraves and Lena Nichols Presgraves Whorton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard L. Moats, in 1987.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth L. Jones and Mary A. Clopper, both of Hagerstown; two sons, David L. Moats of Williamsport and Robert L. Moats of Boonsboro; two sisters, Rose Reeder and Frances Stottlemyer, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, William Whorton and Ray Whorton, both of Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Whorton and Charles Whorton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jack Fullen will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gerald Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St. Prayers will be offered at 7 p.m.

Walter H. Moten

HAGERSTOWN - Walter Henry (Bones) Moten, 53, of 441 N. Potomac St., died Friday, April 16, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born June 8, 1945, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Harry K. Moten of Winchester, Va., and the late Georgia Mae Martinez.

He attended the North Street School and graduated from North Hagerstown High School.

He was a cook at American University in Washington for many years.

He is survived by one sister, Delores Martinez of Hagerstown; seven brothers, Kenneth Moten of Littleto, Colo., Harry Moten of Avenal, Calif., and Richard H. Moten, Michael W. Moten, Larry B. Moten, Franklin L. Moten and Thomas Martinez, all of Hagerstown.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Watson's Funeral Home, 24 W. Bethel St. in Hagerstown. The Rev. Joe Fowlkes will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Viewing will be Tuesday, one hour prior to services, at the funeral home.

Mary E. Brumback

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Mary Elizabeth Thorn Brumback, 101, of Jacksonville, died Monday, April 20, 1998, at her son's home.

Born Aug. 24, 1896, in Vaughn's Summit, Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry Peter and Mary Livers Thorn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lynn Hamilton Brumback.

She was woman golf champion for several years at Fountainhead Country Club in Hagerstown. During World War II she was a volunteer Gray Lady of the American Red Cross, working with wounded veterans at Newton Baker Army Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Frank E. Brumback; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter.

Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg. The Rev. Rob Hill will officiate.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the chapel in Rosedale Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross, Onslow County Chapter, 12 Ruth St., Jacksonville, N.C. 28540; or to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville, N.C.

William R. Thomas Sr.

William Russell Thomas Sr., 61, of 537 Salem Ave., Hagerstown, who died Saturday, April 18, 1998, was employed as a painter. He is survived by a sister, Nancy J. Summerlin of Virginia. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael G. Thomas.

Christin M. Suchy

Christin M. Suchy, 19, of 42 Broadway, Apartment 3, died, Sunday, April 19, 1998, at her home.

Born June 4, 1978, in Berrien Springs, Mich., she was the daughter of Gary L. Suchy of Elizabeth, Pa., and Catherine Casner Weaver of North East, Pa.

She was a graduate of Red Land High School, Lewisberry, Pa.

She was a waitress.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her fiance, Duffy Kane of Hagerstown; her stepmother, Rosemary Suchy of Elizabeth; her stepfather, Leslie B. Weaver, of North East; three brothers, Anthony Bloom of North East, Peter Suchy and Daniel Suchy, both of Elizabeth; one stepsister, Rebecca Weaver of Lewisburg; one stepbrother, Joshua Weaver of Lewisburg; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Sieber of Lewistown, Pa.; paternal grandparents, Peter and Kathy Suchy of Elizabeth; paternal stepgrandmother, Dorothy Minich of North East; paternal great-grandmother, Nettie Lanning of McKees Rocks, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Homer B. Casner and her stepgrandfather, Neil Sieber.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Hoenstine Funeral Home, 75 Logan St., Lewistown. The Rev. Jacob T. Traxler will officiate. Burial will be in Lind Memorial Cemetery, Lewistown.

There will be no viewing, but the family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

George F. Ray III

George Franklin Ray III, 66, of 17923 Sand Wedge Drive, died Sunday, April 19, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 16, 1931, in Rockville, Md., he was the son of the late George F. Ray Jr. and Nannie King Ray.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was employed by Floor Systems Inc., retiring in 1987 after 18 years.

He is survived by his wife, Byrdie L. Ray; three sons, John Michael Ray of Silver Spring, Md., George F. Ray IV of Rockville, Md., and Charles David Ray of Manassas, Va.; a sister, Frances Davis of Dickerson, Md.; a brother, Robert Ray of Rockville; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Society for Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsey, Johns Hopkins Hospital, 5065 Outpatients, 601 N. Caroline St., Baltimore, Md. 21287.

Arrangements were by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
