Rose M. Laughman
Rose Margarette Laughman, 65, of 119 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 9, 1932, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Grace Kretzer White.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by her husband, Larry J. Laughman; one brother, Kenneth W. White of Maugansville; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Bowers; one sister, Mary Dye; and six brothers, Paul White, Andrew White, Albert White, Ray White, Jack White and Preston White.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Mary S. Cool
ST. JAMES - Mary Susanna Cool, 66, of St. James, and 9121 Lidia Lane, Fairplay, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 25, 1931, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Claude and Lola Irene Brillhart Witmer.
She and her husband were the owners and operators of Cool's Collectibles, Williamsport, for 10 years, retiring in 1996.
She was a member of St. James Brethren Church.
She is survived by her husband, Herold Lewis Cool; one daughter, Denise S. Murray of Williamsport; one son, Dennis H. Cool of Keedysville; two sisters, Jessie I. Wynkoop of Cavetown and Carol Ann L. Staubs of Marlowe, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at St. James Brethren Church. The Rev. Brian Moore will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 Conococheague St., Williamsport. The funeral home will be open today after noon for the convenience of family and friends.

Rae H. Brandenburg
FOXVILLE, Md. - Rae Hauver Brandenburg, 96, of Herman Hauver Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 11, 1901, in Foxville, she was the daughter of the late Alvey and Annie Lily Grace Fox Hauver.
Her husband, Ray Samuel Brandenburg, died in 1976.
She was a 1920 graduate of Thurmont High School and attended Strayers Business College, Baltimore.
She was a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, Foxville.
She is survived by four daughters, Betty Burgee of New Market, Md., Carolyn Fishack of Frederick, Md., Nancy Brandenburg and Julia Brandenburg, both of Foxville; four sons, Ray Brandenburg Jr. and Arthur Brandenburg, both of Foxville, Eugene Brandenburg of Baltimore, and Harold Brandenburg Sr. of Hagerstown; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara McCleaf and Olive Barrick; and one brother, George Hauver.
Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Mount Moriah Lutheran Church in Foxville. The Rev. Julie Brigham will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Lutheran Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

William N. Anderson Sr.
PORTLAND, Ore. - William Nelson Anderson Sr., 70, of Portland, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998.
He was born March 10, 1927, in Williamsport.
He was a vendor at Saturday Market for 20 years and worked as an independent carpenter and electrician.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Anderson; two sons, William Anderson Jr. of Vancouver, Wash., and Jeffery Anderson of Portland; two daughters, Eileen Anderson of Gresham, Ore., and Judi Bristow of Portland; two brothers, Dukes Anderson and Joe Anderson, both of Williamsport; two sisters, Sarah Anderson Warden of Williamsport and Rita Anderson McClanathan of Falling Waters, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
Arrangements were by Wilhelm Funeral Home, Portland.
Grace A. Brooks
Grace A. Brooks, 91, formerly of 1747 Edgewood Hills, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home near Boonsboro.
Born June 17, 1906, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Grace L. Lechliter Mantz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor D. Brooks, in 1989.
In 1947, she retired from C&P Telephone Co., as a supervisor.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
She was a member of Lady Elks and Pioneers of America.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Young of Hagerstown; two grandsons, John Ralston of Hagerstown and Gary Ritz of Bel Air, Md.; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Gregor; and two brothers, George E. Mantz and Glenn A. Mantz.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. John W. Ailstock will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
Visitation will be Friday 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
Alice H. Horton
Alice H. Gardiner Horton, 90, of 19516 Foxcroft Drive, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born July 1, 1907, in Belfast, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Hall Gardiner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Horton, in 1968. They were married Feb. 8, 1942.
She was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School, Brooklyn, N.Y.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed with Mutual Life Insurance Co., New York City.
She was of the Presbyterian faith.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Altman, of Hagerstown, with whom she lived; one grandson, Adam Horton Altman of Hagerstown; one nephew; and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Gardiner.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends today and Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at their home, 19516 Foxcroft Drive, Hagerstown.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

Lena A. Sigafoose
Lena Agnes Sigafoose, 101, of 1221 Frederick St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Dec. 24, 1896, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Rosetta White Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Sigafoose.
She was employed with Terminal Restaurant; Fairchild Cafeteria; and previously was part owner of Rose Bowl in Hagerstown.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
She is survived by one grandson, Mikhael B. Sigafoose of Hagerstown; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Glenn Edward Sigafoose.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth J. Dorsch will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.

Eleanor R. Birely
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Eleanor R. Birely, 85, of 3133 Connecticut Ave. N.W., died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born April 16, 1912, in Sabillasville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Marvin F. and Alice V. Moser Birely.
She was a 1930 graduate of Thurmont High School; and a 1932 graduate of Waynesboro Business College.
She worked at Landis Tool co., Waynesboro, and in 1940 entered U.S. government service in Washington, D.C. From 1947 to 1948 she worked under the U.S. Foreign Service at the American Embassy in Moscow.
She also worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Foreign Agricultural Service in Washington, D.C.; the American Embassy in Rome, London, and Tokyo. She spent three weeks at the first Food and Agriculture United Nations Conference at the Homestead Hotel, Hot Springs, Va.
She retired in June 1977, having received several awards for outstanding service.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Sabillasville.
She is survived by three sisters, Ethel J. Zimmerman of Catonsville, Md., Helen B. DeLawter of Timonium, Md., and Doris B. Kepner of Oxon Hill, Md.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Alice Barton; and four brothers, infant William Birely, Harold F. Birely, M. Raymond Birely Sr. and Donald L. Birely.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Saint Mark's Lutheran Church, Sabillasville. The Rev. Phillip C. Huber will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade.
The family will receive friends Saturday 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
