BOONSBORO - Frances Dorothy Shank, 75, of Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home, and formerly of Sharpsburg, who died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, was the daughter of the late Joseph Augustus and Maude Sanders Davis.
Roy W. Green
Roy William Green, 82, who died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, resided at 115 Jonathan St., Hagerstown.
Ruth E.H. Hause
Ruth Elizabeth Hollenshead Hause, 76, of 10805 Rosewood Drive, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 23, 1921, near Greencastle, Pa., in Antrim Township, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. and Emma C. Angle Hollenshead.
She was employed by Seals Grocery Store on Pennsylvania Avenue in Hagerstown, and was last employed by Fleisher's Department Store in Hagerstown as a sales person.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary Lou Ditmer of Hagerstown; and one granddaughter, Amanda Ditmer of Hagerstown.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Shank's Cemetery near Greencastle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are by Miller-Grove Funeral Home in Greencastle.
Wilda V. Shanholtz
WINCHESTER, Va. - Wilda Virginia "Grandma" Shanholtz, 89, of 1416 Greenspring Road, and formerly of Hampshire County, W.Va., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Jan. 15, 1908, in Augusta, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Issac and Barbara Hott Fultz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dawson Jacob Shanholtz, in 1980.
She was employed by National Fruit in Winchester.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by four daughters, Claudine Smoot of Sharpsburg, Mildred Belt of Moorefield, W.Va., Hazel Iser of Winchester and June Smoot of Baltimore; 26 grandchildren, including three whom she raised, Steve Shanholtz, Delores Milburn and Margaret DeMayo, all of Winchester; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by one son, Dawson Jacob Shanholtz Jr.; one sister; and two brothers.
Services will be today at 1 p.m. at McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta. The Rev. Cletus Palmer and the Rev. Garry Felton will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Points, W.Va.
Donald W. Naylor
CASCADE - Donald W. Naylor, 59, of Cascade, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born in Waynesboro, Pa., on April 14, 1938, he was the son of the late Harry L. and Viola F. Lashley Naylor Sr.
He was employed as a painting contractor.
He is survived by one sister, Doris Biser of Waynesboro; two brothers, Harry L. "Chip" Naylor Jr. of Cascade and twin Ronald D. Naylor of Waynesboro; eight nieces; and one nephew.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Ringgold Cemetery. The Rev. Randy S. Reid will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.
Willis M. Spong
Willis M. Spong, 93, of 17003 Hillsdale Court, Hagerstown, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 9, 1904, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late Albert M. and Grace F. Bowers Spong.
A self-employed printer, he owned and operated Spong Printing Co. in Hagerstown for 32 years.
He later owned and operated Sun and Surf Motel at Carolina Beach in Wilmington, N.C. He then owned and operated "Mr. Swiss" fast-food restaurant in Lutz, Fla., and lived in Tampa, Fla.
He was a member of Salem Reformed Church.
He also was a member of Friendship Lodge 84 AF&AM, became a master mason in 1934, and a worshipful master in 1943. He also was past grand tall cedar in Tall Cedars of Lebanon Lodge 95.
He was an unsuccessful candidate for register of wills.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda Jackson Spong; one daughter, Dorinda Spong Yawn of Tampa; one sister, Naomi Murfree of Hagerstown; one brother, Robert R. Spong of Keedysville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Willis Spong.
Services will be held Friday at 6:45 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. J. Clark Hayes will officiate. Burial will be Saturday at noon in Salem Reformed Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
Elsie R. Grossnickle
MYERSVILLE, Md. - Elsie R. Grossnickle, 88, formerly of Church Hill Road, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home, Boonsboro.
Born Feb. 8, 1909, in Wolfsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late John E. and Flora Harshman Bussard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus B. Grossnickle, in 1990.
She retired in 1975 from Sagner Inc., Frederick, Md., where she had worked as a seamstress.
She was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, was a lifetime deaconess, a Sunday school teacher; and a Bible school teacher.
She is survived by one daughter, Katherine Leatherman of Myersville; two sons, Arthur Grossnickle of Junction City, Kan., and Fred Barkdoll of Middletown, Md.; two sisters, Mary Specht and Ellen Bussard, both of Frederick; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Schroyer, Nellie Cartee and Sadie White; two brothers, John Bussard and Albert Bussard; and two great-granddaughters.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville. The Rev. Ronald A. Beverlin and the Rev. Henry Hunsberger will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville.

Helen J. Snyder
Helen Josephine Snyder, 78, of 703 Chestnut St., Hagerstown, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 4, 1919, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Marcus Hanna and Olive Josephine Weller Corbett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edgar Snyder, in 1972.
She owned and operated Stadium Tavern for 35 years.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She is survived by one daughter, Tina Guessford of Hagerstown; one son, Gary W. Snyder of Hagerstown; five grandchildren, Ericka Fazenbaker, Diane Poffinberger, Dawn Hoskins, Nicole Snyder, and Tracy Mozingo, all of Hagerstown; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Inez Warren; and one brother, Clement Corbett.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert Ridenour will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

June E. Waugh
FUNKSTOWN - June Elaine Waugh, 78, of 303 N. High St., died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 10, 1919, in Luray, Va., she was the daughter of the late Theodore Winfield and Minnie Dennis Black.
She was formerly employed with Fairchild Aircraft and McCrory's. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Elks Club Auxiliary 378 and Chapter 55 Coachman Club.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Waugh; 18 nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Marion Black Kinch; and two brothers, Douglas Black and Theodore Black.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Funkstown Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Corinne D. Manger
CHEVY CHASE, Md. - Corinne Deal Manger of Chevy Chase, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. G. Edward Manger.
She is survived by one son, Dr. George E. Manger Jr. of Hagerstown.
Services will be held Saturday at noon at Chevy Chase United Methodist Church, 7001 Connecticut Ave., Chevy Chase. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Arcadia, Md.
Friends will be received at Pumphrey's Bethesda-Chevy Chase Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, Md., on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
