Edward R. Raymond
Edward R. Raymond, 70, of 10928 Holly Terrace, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 16, 1927, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Henry Russel and Loretta Fauth Raymond.
He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of command sergeant major after 21 years of service. He later was employed by Victor Products and Central Motors Dodge, both of Hagerstown.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Lappans, where he was a former Sunday school teacher, vestry member and treasurer.
He was a member of Western Maryland Railway Historical Society in Hagerstown; and Dixon-Troxell Post 211 American Legion in Funkstown.
He is survived by his wife, Iris Belle Davis Raymond, whom he married Nov. 5, 1949; two daughters, Laura Raymond Cushing, of Adams, N.Y., and Sally Raymond Spickler of Sharpsburg; one son, Russ Raymond of Phoenix, Ariz.; one brother, H. Eugene Raymond of Lovettsville, Va.; and two granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mark's Cemetery.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The family will receive friends following the service at St. Mark's Church Parish House.

Ida A. Kuhn
Ida Alberta Kuhn, 87, of 16931 Shadybrook Terrace, Hagerstown, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at her home.
Born June 9, 1910, in York Springs, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Mervin A. and Annie Lobaugh Knouse.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard E. Kuhn, in 1989.
She was a member of Emmanuel U.M. Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Albert J. Knouse of Deland, Fla., and Dale Knouse of Saint Clairsville, Ohio.
Graveside services will be today at 2 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Thomas J. Hull
HANCOCK - Thomas Jeremiah Hull, 82, of 13708 Hollow Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born May 5, 1915, in Millstone, Md., he was the son of the late Jeremiah Luther and Susan Jane Snyder Hull.
He was a former employee of the National Park Service.
He was a member of Stonebridge Church of the Brethren near Hancock.
He is survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Hull and Annabelle Younker; and one brother, Earl Luther Hull.
Graveside services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Stonebridge Church of the Brethren Church Cemetery, Hollow Road, Hancock. The Rev. Harry E. Strite will officiate.
Friends may call Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Raphael Moreno
Raphael "Ray" Moreno, 70, of 666 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at Western Maryland Hospital.
He was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Bogota, Colombia, South America.
He graduated summa cum laude from the Nacional de San Bartolome in Bogota. He represented Colombia in the New York Herald Tribune International Secondary Education Congress.
He received a bachelor of arts in humanities and a bachelor of science in physics and mathematics from Case-Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He did further studies at M.I.T. in Cambridge, Mass., in nuclear physics, applied physics and electronics. He pursued additional studies at Catholic University, Capitol Institute of Technology, Shippensburg University and Hagerstown Junior College.
He worked as an engineer physicist at Allis Chalmers Nuclear Power Department in Washington, D.C., Bechtel Corp. in Gaithersburg, Md., Biospherics Inc. in Rockville, Md., Ron Davies Associates in Beltsville, Md., and Lee-Mongul and Co. Inc. in Washington, D.C. He also was employed with A.B. Dick, American Office Machines, Corpus Christi School, Pennsylvania United Council of Churches, Planning Research Corp. "NASA program" and most recently with the U.S. Census Bureau. He did private tutoring in Spanish, math, physics and computer. He tutored students in mathematics through the Green Thumb Program at E. Russell Hicks Middle School. He wrote scientific and technical publications for the Atomic Energy Commission and NASA.
He became a U.S. citizen in 1972.
He is survived by one sister, Maria Cristina Moreno of Bogota, Colombia; and one brother, Dr. Manuel Moreno of Mexico City.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements were by Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg.
James M. Werking
James M. Werking, 91, of 521 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.
Born Dec. 4, 1906, in Lappans (Devils Backbone), Md., he was the son of the late Charlton F. and Mary Smith Werking.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hull Werking, in 1974.
He retired in 1972, after 22 years, as an operator at the sewage treatment plant for the City of Hagerstown. Earlier, he worked at Pangborn Corp.
He was a member of Hagerstown Bible Church, where he was a member of the men's Bible class.
He is survived by a friend of more than 20 years, Catherine E. Coss of Hagerstown; two nieces, Cleo Bell of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Evelyn White of Sarasota, Fla.; and one nephew, John A. Werking of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie Smith, Mary Corbett and Lou Steiwart; and one brother, John D. Werking.
Services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Gerald D. Carbaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
Wayne Spong Sr.
DOVER, Del. - Wayne Spong Sr., 63, of Dover, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at Courtland Manor Nursing Home.
Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of Willis M. Spong and the stepson of Glenda Spong of Hagerstown.
He worked as a printer for The Washington Post until becoming disabled.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served in Korea.
He is survived one son, Wayne Spong Jr. of Greenbelt, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.

Cora M. Zello
Cora Marie Zello, 79, of 12307 Walnut Point West, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.
Born May 30, 1918, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late William O. and Cora S. Hull Miles.
She was a graduate of Clear Spring High School and Practical Bible College in Bingaman, N.Y.
She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Temple.
She is survived by her husband, Angelo Zello of Hagerstown; one daughter, Kimberly Stine of Hagerstown; one son, John William Zello of Hagerstown; one brother, Dr. William F. Miles of Cedar Park, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Temple, 16221 National Pike, Hagerstown. The Rev. Ed Hampton will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Clear Spring.
Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.

Michael D. Albright
Michael David "Porkchop" Albright, 53, of 314 Liberty St., Hagerstown, and formerly of Dry Run, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at his home.
Born Aug. 3, 1944, in Clear Spring, he was the son of the late Chester L. and Helen Louise Rubeck Albright Sr.
He was a 1962 graduate of Clear Spring High School.
He was employed by the Washington County Board of Education at Clear Spring Middle School as lead custodian for the second shift, and as a part-time bartender at Mike's Prospect Street Tavern. He previously was employed by Brandt Cabinet Works.
He served with the U.S. Army.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by two sisters, Shirley E. Bivens of Mercersburg, Pa., and Edith M. Whorten of Clear Spring; six brothers, Chester L. Albright Jr., Roger A. Albright, Robert G. Albright, and James W. Albright, all of Hagerstown, Joseph L. Albright of Clear Spring, and John C. Albright of Waynesboro, Pa.; eight nieces and nephews; and two aunts.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth E. "Chub" Albright.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in Blairs Valley Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
