Mary Toth
YORK, Pa. - Mary Toth, 81, of York, and formerly of Hooversville, Pa., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, in York.
Born Oct. 4, 1915, in Windber, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Mutter Knecht.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Toth.
She and her husband owned and operated several coal mines.
She was a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Hooversville.
She is survived by three daughters, Marion Przybyla of Johnstown, Pa., Joanne Holtzman of Hagerstown and Erma Besseck of Pittsburgh; one son, John M. Toth of Hooversville; one sister, Elizabeth Damico of Hagerstown; three brothers, Joseph Knecht of Windber, William Knecht of Hooversville and George Knecht of Somerset, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Thomas Knecht Jr., Louis Knecht, John Knecht and Steven Knecht; and one grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Windber. The Rev. Leonard E. Voytek will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery.
Friends will be received at Hugh W. Marron Funeral home, Windber, today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., where a wake service will be held.
Thomas A. DeShong
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Thomas A. DeShong, 71, of RD 1, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, at Harrisburg General Hospital, Harrisburg, Pa.
Born Oct. 17, 1925, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of the late Thomas O. and Luemma E. Chestnut DeShong.
He was a concrete foreman for C.J. Lagenfelter in Baltimore for 26 years. He also was a carpenter and a bartender at American Legion, McConnellsburg.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of the American Legion, McConnellsburg and Mercersburg, Pa.; and VFW, McConnellsburg and Mercersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Mary A. Harford DeShong, whom he married on Sept. 4, 1948; four sons, Thomas E. DeShong Sr., Timothy Michael DeShong and John DeShong, all of McConnellsburg, and Darrell C. DeShong of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Cloran "Coke" Ranck and Phyllis Reel, both of Harrisonville, Pa., and Rose Kahn of Mercersburg; two brothers, Nhyle DeShong of Cornwell Heights, Pa., and Sheldon D. DeShong of Harrisonville; six grandsons; two granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville. The Rev. Barron Barley and H. Lyle Duffey will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, Harrisonville.
Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 2 to 9 p.m.

Merle E. Bussard
BOONSBORO - Merle Eugene Bussard, 64, of 27 Potomac St., died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Nov. 23, 1932, in Keedysville, he was the son of the late Franklin Howell Bussard and Bertha Florence Ferguson Rice.
A jet engine mechanic for Squadron 167th Air National Guard, Martinsburg, W.Va., he retired in 1990 after 27 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served during the Korean War. He had been a member of the Air National Guard for 34 years.
He was a member of the former Sharpsburg Riflemen.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Elaine Western Bussard, whom he married on Dec. 20, 1958; three daughters, Merlene K. Mills of Sharpsburg, Diane Writt of Gerrardstown, W.Va., and LeAnn Bussard of Boonsboro; two sons, M. Gene Bussard II of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Brian K. Bussard of Boonsboro; one sister, Faye A. Shepherd of St. Louis; three brothers, Thomas W. Bussard Sr. and Atlee H. Bussard Sr., both of Sharpsburg, and Harold L. Bussard Sr. of Hagerstown; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia E. Itnyre; and one son, Gardner F. Bussard.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph Downs will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Steve P. Green
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Steve Patrick Green, 31, a resident of Cordova, Alaska, and Hedgesville, died Sept. 24, 1997, at his Hedgesville home.
Born Aug. 8, 1966, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Steve Douglas and N. Sue Stemple Green.
He was a 1984 graduate of Hedgesville High School and a 1990 graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in Wildlife Biology.
He was employed as an avian biologist doing shore bird research, and as a "Techno-wizard" at Copper River Delta Institute in Cordova.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Wendy Weisel Green, whom he married Jan. 8, 1995; aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth B. and Mary J. McVicker Green; and Nelson B. and Abigail J. Duckworth Stemple.
Services and burial will be private.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va.

James L. Houser
NEW OXFORD, Pa. - James L. Houser, 62, of 219 Tapeworm Road, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Hanover Hospital, from injuries received in a farm accident.
Born April 30, 1935, in Adams County, Tyrone Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Edgar G. and Hazel P. Hewett Houser.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth A. Millar Houser; two daughters, Melanie Cornman of York, Pa., and Connie A. Touloumes of New Oxford; one son, Bill Lockman of New Oxford; three sisters, Esther Baker of Abbottstown, Pa., June Neiman of Hampton, Pa., and Emma Lery of Hanover, Pa.; two brothers, Paul L. Houser of Abbottstown, and Richard Houser of Thomasville, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Feiser Funeral Home Inc., 302 Lincoln Way West, New Oxford. The Rev. Douglas C. Hahn, will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Church Cemetery.
A viewing will be at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Rose M. Testa
INWOOD, W.Va. - Rose M. Testa, 65, of Inwood, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at her daughter's home.
Born Oct. 18, 1931, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Nunziato and Maria Pagano Zangla.
Her husband, Gabriel P. Testa, preceded her in death.
She was a retired secretary, working for the Pentagon.
She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy M. Wachter of Inwood; three sons, David P. Testa of Laurel, Md., Joseph J. Testa of Beltsville, Md., and John A. Testa of Severn, Md.; one sister, Nancy Endsley of Mount Rainier, Md.; three brothers, Victor Zangla of Oxon Hill, Md., Angelo Zangla of Brentwood, Md., and Rosario Zangla of Temple Hills, Md.; and 10 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Inwood, with the Rev. Brian Shoda as celebrant. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Charlotte F. Nesler
Charlotte Florence Nesler, 77, of Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown, and formerly of 18514 Orchard Hills Parkway, Hagerstown, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 2, 1920, in Bayonne, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lydia May Frank.
Her husband, George W. Nesler Sr., died in 1992.
She was a member of Haven Lutheran Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia L. Holbert ot State Line, Pa.; two sons, George W. Nesler Jr. and Ronald H. Nesler, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lydia Jannace and Pearl Rose; and one brother, Pete Frank.
Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. Torben Aarsand will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery
in Hagerstown.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

John W. Belotte
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John W. Belotte, 82, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at City Hospital.
Born May 25, 1915, in Barbour County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Nicola Belotte and Theresa Pignanelli Belotte Perry. He was the stepson of the late Salvatore Perry.
His wife, Sara E. Wright Belotte, died Aug. 3, 1997.
He was a 1934 graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School in Clarksburg, W.Va.
He was employed with Rolland Glass Co., a division of Fourco Glass Co. for 42 years, and served as chairman of Rolland Local 6 for 26 years.
He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He was a member of St. John's Parish and Immaculate Conception Parish and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
During the 1930s and 1940s, he participated in baseball and softball activities in the Clarksburg area.
He was a member of East View Lions Club, Elks Club, Clarksburg Local 52, Loyal Order of Moose and a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer in East View and a member of East View Prayer Group.
He is survived by one daughter, Dotty Lu Rutan of Staunton, Va.; one son, Tim Belotte of Martinsburg, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with the Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr. as celebrant. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Mable I. Henderson
BURKITTSVILLE, Md. - Mable Isabell Henderson, 80, of 5800 Brownsville Pass Road, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at her home.
Born April 15, 1917, in Sunnyside, Md., she was the daughter of the late Henry and May Weedon Sr.
Her husband, Roy Edward Lee Henderson Sr., died in 1969.
She was a retired cook at Vindobona Nursing Home in Braddock Heights, Md.
She was a member of Mount Zion AME Church in Knoxville, Md., where she was a steward and a member of the Missionary Society.
She is survived by four daughters, Hilda Smith of Berlin, N.J.; Betty Watson of Brunswick, Md.; Virginia Henderson and Mary Henderson, both of Burkittsville; six sons, Charles Weedon of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Daniel Henderson of Hagerstown, Van Allen Henderson of Frederick, Md.; Richard Henderson of Knoxville, Md., and Roy Edward Lee Henderson Jr. and David Henderson, both of Burkittsville; three sisters, Christine Ambush of Frederick, Bessie Holliman of Washington, D.C. and Emma Parker of Jersey City, N.J.; 30 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-aunt.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Jessie Herbert, Helen Delauter and Nora Pond; and four brothers, Clarence Weedon, Austin Weedon, Samuel Weedon and Henry Weedon Jr.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Mount Zion A.M.E. Church in Knoxville. The Rev. Richard C. Dyson will officiate. Burial will be in Cere Bethel AME Church Cemetery
in Burkittsville.
The family will receive friends at the church after 2 p.m. on Thursday.
