Almetta M. Funk
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Almetta M. Funk, 76, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at her home.
Born Aug. 1, 1921, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James and Flora Wyndham McCarty.
She retired from Handy and Harman Inc.
She was a member of Hedgesville Assembly of God Church.
She is survived by her husband, James M. Funk, whom she married on June 30, 1941; four daughters, Barbara Mason and Sharon Cooper, both of Martinsburg, W.Va., Martha Frye and Connie DeHaven, both of Inwood, W.Va.; two sisters, Marjorie Fox of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Shirley Nichols of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn McIntire, Viola McCarty and Daisy McCarty, her twin; and two brothers, Harold McCarty and Douglas McCarty.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Louis Whitford will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401; or Hedgesville Assembly of God Church, P.O. Box 75, Hedgesville, W.Va. 25427.
Scott J. Keim Jr.
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Scott J. Keim Jr., 72, of 138 S. Carlisle St., died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.
Born Nov. 7, 1924, in Somerfield, Pa., he was the son of the late Scott A. Keim Sr. and Edith Cuppert Keim.
He was employed by Fairchild Industries, Hagerstown, for 32 years and retired in 1983.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army as a sergeant with Co. L., 351st Infantry, in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Harry Lackhove American Legion Post 517, Mercersburg, Pa., and Harry Zeigler VFW Post 6319, Greencastle.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Gordon Pittman Keim, whom he married on March 26, 1978; one stepdaughter, Marie Clopper of Greencastle; two stepsons, Roger Pittman of Mercersburg and Cletus Pittman of Shirleysburg, Pa.; one sister, Edith Wetzel of Addison, Pa.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Kelly Shope will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg, Pa.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Merle L. Beckwith
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Merle L. Beckwith, 72, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, in Atlantic City, N.J.
Born March 15, 1925, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Merle Alvin and Irene Eversole Beckwith.
Prior to retiring, he was a supervisor with C&P Telephone Co.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in China with the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church and a member of Men's Bible Class.
He was treasurer for Martinsburg Lions Club for many years and was a Melvin Jones Fellow, the Lionism highest award. He was an active member of the Pioneers Club.
He volunteered at C-Cap and Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Lorraine Miller Beckwith; two sons, Todd M. Beckwith and Charles W. Beckwith, both of Martinsburg; and four grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Christopher D. Fowler will officiate. Private burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Miriam I. Fraver
SMITHSBURG - Miriam I. Fraver, 93, of Ritchie Road, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born May 30, 1904, in Wolfsville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Lulu Warrenfeltz Palmer.
She was a graduate of Towson College.
She was a teacher in the Smithsburg School.
She and her husband operated Fraver Garage in Smithsburg.
She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Cavetown, and served as Sunday school teacher.
She was a member of Cavetown Homemaker Club for 60 years and served as president.
She is survived by her husband, J. Clark Fraver; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Waldo M. Palmer, Rupert E. Palmer and Clive W. Palmer.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. The Rev. Ron E. Kauffman will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Wilbur C. Feaster
QUINCY, Pa. - Wilbur C. Feaster, 93, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 157 Feaster Road, Chambersburg, Pa., died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at the home.
Born Dec. 28, 1903, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Walter and Clara Culler Feaster.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bruner Feaster, in 1980.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Services will be private with burial in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. The Rev. Charles B. Jessen will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.
Allen A. Stahl
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Allen A. Stahl, 73, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born July 22, 1924, in Harrisburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Siegfried Stahl.
He retired from Montgomery County, Md., schools.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of New Apostolic Church, Martinsburg.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lieselotte Nichel Stahl; one stepdaughter, Barbara Nichel of Germany; and one step-grandchild, Brynn Nichel of Germany.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, 2060 Rosedale Road, Martinsburg. District Evangelist Michael Crerar will officiate. Entombment will be in Rosedale Mausoleum.
There will be no visitation.
William D. Gossard
William David Gossard, 74, of 251 West Side Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 4, 1923, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late David A. and Lydia Grace Curfman Gossard.
He was employed as a vice president of Canteen Service Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater with the 204th Anti-aircraft Battalion during World War II.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
He was a member of American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42, member and past secretary of the Last Man's Club and Potomac Fish and Game Club.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude B. McClain Gossard; two sons, Cody W.L. Gossard, and Walter D. Gossard, both of Hagerstown; four sisters, Edith I. Gaylord, Effie Mae Socks, and Mary Ruth Craig, all of Hagerstown, and Freda Rae Wempe of Williamsport; four brothers, Joseph T. Gossard of Reisterstown, Md., Albert J. Gossard of Williamsport, Charles L. Gossard of Hagerstown and Evers Gossard of Salisbury, Md.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Irene Bowman, Alice Jane Lumm and Nancy Grace Slifer; and one brother, Robert W. Gossard.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery
with military graveside honors conducted by American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Ruth A. Miller
BOONSBORO - Ruth A. Miller, 87, a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Home, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at the home.
Born June 30, 1910, in Mapleville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Florence Elizabeth Bowman Dinkle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glenn Miller, in 1963.
She was employed for 13 years by Leiter Brothers Department Store in Hagerstown and retired after 18 years with Fairchild Aircraft.
She was a member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Hagerstown.
She was a member of United Auto Workers.
She is survived by several cousins.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Reba I. Piper
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Reba I. Piper, 86, a resident of Shook Home, and formerly of 328 S. Second St., died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born March 11, 1911, in Cito, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Lillian Bishop Cooper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray M. Piper, in 1967.
She was a homemaker. She had been employed at the former Swift and Co., Chambersburg, for nine years and at the former Footer Cleaners, Chambersburg, for eight years. She also baby-sat in area homes for 20 years.
She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Joanna G. Crider of Chambersburg and Juanita May Roosa of Pems, Calif.; two sisters, Alberta J. Paxton and Marcella G. Gipe, both of Chambersburg; one brother, Vernon L. Cooper of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and seven brothers.
Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
