Harold M. Kagan
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Harold M. Kagan, 73, of 84 Brookmeadow Lane, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, at Menno-Haven.
Born March 12, 1924, in New York City, he was the son of the late Samuel and Birdie Benson Kagan.
He was owner and operator of Sunset Drive-In Theater in Chambersburg, and Caledonia Drive-In Theater for 43 years.
He was a veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Sons of Israel Congregation in Chambersburg, and was a former board member of the synagogue.
He also was a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and BPOE 600, both in Chambersburg; and the National Association of Theater Owners.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Kronenberg Kagan; three daughters, Lois Weiss of Valley Forge, Pa., and Amy Wolin of Los Angeles, and Sharon Pitluk of Tucson, Ariz.; one son, Alan Kagan of Philadelphia; one sister; one brother; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Sons of Israel Cemetery, Chambersburg. Rabbi David Steinberg will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

Mabel P. Schlotterbeck
Mabel Pauline Schlotterbeck, 94, formerly of 911 Guilford Ave., Hagerstown, and a resident of Williamsport Nursing Home, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 11, 1902, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lilly Mae Albin Hollyday.
Her husband, Rinehart V. "Riney" Schlotterbeck, died in 1976.
She was employed with the offices of Dr. William N. Fender and Dr. Joseph Crisp, and previously with Washington County Hospital and Montgomery Ward.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and served as choir mother, and as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She was a member of American Red Cross for a number of years.
She is survived by one daughter, Eileen Kneisly of Hancock; three sons, Dale Schlotterbeck of Baltimore, Preston L. Schlotterbeck of Dover, Del., and Kenneth D. Schlotterbeck of Tucson, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth will officiate. Burial will be in Funkstown Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Ruth L.B. Garrett
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Ruth L. Baer Garrett, 71, of 6705 Marsh Road, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at her home.
Born Jan. 31, 1926, in Washington Township, Franklin County, in the Marsh area, she was the daughter of the late Gilson P. and Oliver M. Hoover Baer.
Her husband, Walter L. Garrett, died in 1991. They were married May 30, 1946.
Early in life, she worked at Waynesboro Shoe Factory. She then worked in the dietary department of South Mountain Restoration Center, retiring in 1987 after 20 years of service.
She enjoyed cooking, playing cards and watching NASCAR racing.
She is survived by two daughters, Tina M. Freeman of Waynesboro, and Judy A. Garrett of Sharpsburg; two sons, Terry L. Garrett and William L. Garrett, both of Waynesboro; four sisters, Esther C. McFerren, Mary B. Walker and Harriet A. Baer, all of Waynesboro, and Betsy E. Blair of Greencastle; two brothers, Edward L. Baer and William H. Baer, both of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John A. Baer and Kenneth H. Baer.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Wilber L. Sites will officiate. Burial will be in Prices Church Cemetery
near Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Virginia A. Snook
Virginia Agnes Snook, 77, of 1452 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Jerry David Hicks Sr. and Pearl Martha Carl Hicks.
She was a 1938 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She attended Bridgewater College and Hagerstown Business College.
She was employed as a secretary by M.P. Moller Inc., Pangborn Corp., Fairchild Industries and Snook's Poultry Business.
She served as a commissioner of the Washington County Housing Authority from 1983 to 1988.
She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, the United Workers Sunday School Class, and Friends of the Church. She also was a Sunday school teacher for more than 10 years.
When in Florida, she attended Grace Brethren Church in Ocala.
She also was a member of Women's Turff Bowling League at Pangborn Park, and was voted into the Hall of Fame. She was a member of Washington County Republican Club, AARP, and was a past member of Halfway Fire Co. Auxiliary and Halfway Homemaker's Club.
She enjoyed playing cards at several local card clubs and traveling to Florida.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harry C. Snook; one daughter, Christine Virginia Watts of Lutherville, Md.; one son, Larry N. Snook of Hagerstown; three brothers, Carl D. Hicks of Gaithersburg, Md., Jerry D. Hicks Jr. of Columbus, Neb., and Gerald C. Hicks of Funkstown; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Floretta Newkirk.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, East Washington Street, Hagerstown. The Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Monday at 11 a.m.
The family will receive friends at Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, 40 E. Antietam St., Hagerstown, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Esther J.B. McLaughlin
GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Esther J. Brumbaugh McLaughlin, 72, of 235 S. Ridge Ave., died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at her home.
Born Jan. 13, 1925, in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late Allen R. and Eva Mayhugh Brumbaugh. She spent her early life in Greencastle, then lived in Bordeaux, France, Gaum and the Washington, D.C., area, prior to returning to Greencastle.
She was a 1942 graduate of Greencastle High School and a graduate of Florida State University. She attended Cordon Bleu cooking school in Bordeaux.
She was employed in mortgage banking in the Washington, D.C., area, and then worked with HUD in Chambersburg, Pa.
She is survived by one niece, Rebecca J. Brumbaugh of San Rafael, Calif.; two nephews, William Allen Brumbaugh of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Mark Broderick Brumbaugh of Alexandria, Va.; four grandnephews; and one great-grandnephew.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Harry G. Brumbaugh.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery
in Hagerstown.

Hazel V. Hess
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hazel V. Hess, 58, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at her home.
Born Nov. 14, 1938, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lester and Bertha VanMetre Jacques.
She was formerly employed by the Wishing Well Restaurant in Charles Town.
She was a member of the Open Arms Ministry.
She is survived by her husband, George G. Hess; four daughters, Barbara Whalen and Sandra Hess, both of Martinsburg, Virginia Spencer of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Pamela Whalen of Harrisonburg, Va.; three sons, Roger Hess, of Baltimore, David Hess of Charlotte, N.C., and Michael Hess of Martinsburg; seven sisters, Ruth Ann Evans and Peggy Cole, both of Martinsburg, Cora Domer of Charles Town, W.Va., Elsie McDonald of Gerrardstown, W.Va., Mary Martin of Mercerville, N.J., Ida Pulse of Marlowe, W.Va., and Wilma Anderson of Richmond, Va.; four brothers, John William Jacques of Martinsburg, James Jacques of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Charles Jacques of Owensboro, Ky., and Robert Jacques of Hedgesville, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Hess; one son, George Hess; and four brothers, Lewis Jacques, Lester Jacques, Ronald Jacques and Leonard VanMetre.
Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Malott will officiate. Burial will be in Tuscarora Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Kathryn D. Desenberg
WILLIAMSPORT - Kathryn Dorsey Desenberg, 71, formerly of 112 Knotty Pine Drive in Hagerstown, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home in Williamsport.
Born Jan. 4, 1926, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Annie C. Dietrich Dorsey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Desenberg, in 1990.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She also was a member of the Republican State Central Committee.
She is survived by two daughters, Anna B. Jacobs of Great Falls, Va., and Susan K. Saum-Wicklein of Hagerstown; one stepdaughter, Linda Bouthillette of Vancouver, Wash.; one stepson, George Desenberg of Tacoma, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery
in Virginia.
There will be no viewing.

Donald R. Frush Sr.
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Donald Robert Frush Sr., 67, of Pheasant Lane, Falling Waters, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 22, 1930, in Indian Springs, Md., he was the son of the late Clarence and Anna Hull Frush.
He attended Big Pool and Clear Spring schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and retired as command sergeant major in the Army Reserves.
He retired from managing properties for the Bowman family, was mayor of the City of Hagerstown from 1981 to 1985, and had recently retired from real estate in Ocean City, Md.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
He was a member of BPO Elks 378, American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42, Amvets No.14 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1936. He was past chairman of the Washington County Planning Commission and was a member of Boy Scouts of America, the National Rifle Association, Maryland Wildlife Federation, Disabled American Veterans, FKD Sportsmen's Club Inc., Soil Conservation, Maryland and Delaware Association of Realtors and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine C. Wolford Frush, whom he married July 30, 1955; two sons, Donald R. Frush Jr. of Westminster, Md., and Dwight Douglas Frush of Silver Spring, Md.; three sisters, Mary Corderman and Betty Wolfe, both of Hagerstown, and Harriett Benchoff of Fairfield, Pa.; two brothers, Calvin Frush of Falling Waters and Harry Frush of Florida; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence Frush, J.R. Frush, Richard Frush and Frederick Frush.
Services will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison and the Rev. Ann V. Atkins will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Military services will be conducted at the graveside by the American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42.
