Parker, Patricia L.

Patricia L. Parker, 65, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born in Cambridge on May 19, 1940 and was a daughter of the late Ira G. and Lettie Bromwell Wroten.

Mrs. Parker attended Cambridge High School. She had done some home caring for several families. She was married to her first husband Stanley Phillip Harris who has passed away and her second husband Rathell S. Parker who is also deceased.

She is survived by her son David Lee Harris and his companion Vicki of Ocean Pines, a granddaughter Heather Harris of Stephens City, VA, and a brother Philip Wroten and his companion Cecelia Bowers of Cambridge.

Pallbearers will be: Jackie Bowers, Frankie Koski, Mike Ward, David Hubble, Charlie Price and Brian Kimmey.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Wesley K. Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Linton, Vernon Dane

Vernon Dane Linton, 80, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 of natural causes at his home in Pocomoke City, Md.

Born March 24, 1925, in Saxis, Va., he was the son of the late Vernon and Susie Smith Linton. His wife, Florence Barnes Linton, preceded him in death, May 12, 1990.

Mr. Linton was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pocomoke City. He retired in 1987 from Kellam Distributors, after twenty-five years of service. He was an antique car enthusiast and he was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America Eastern Shore Region and Accomack-Northampton Region; the Historical Vintage Car Club of Delaware, Inc.; the Model A Ford Club of America and Model A Restorers Club; the Keystone Crosley Club and the Crabtown Cruisers.

He is survived by a son, Daniel Linton and his wife Pamela of Pocomoke City, four grandchildren, Daniel "D. J." Linton and Darren Linton, both of Pocomoke City, Darrell Linton and his wife Patty of Lacey, Washington, and Denise Southern and her husband Chris of Salisbury; five great-grandchildren, Spencer, Sara and Summer Linton and Hailey and Garrett Southern; a brother, Richard "Dickie" Linton and his wife Paulette of Onley; a sister, Joyce Hall and her husband Preston of Perry Hall, Md., and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2006 at the Downing's Cemetery in Oak Hall, Va. The Rev. Paul Elligson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are being handled by the Holloway Melson Funeral Home, 103 Linden Ave., Pocomoke City, MD.

Nelson, L. Ed

Army

L. ED NELSON, 93, of Crisfield, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield.

Born in Crisfield on October 21, 1914, he was the son of the late L. Ned and Hettie Sterling Nelson.

He was a 48-year employee of the former Charles D. Briddell, Inc., later known as Carvel Hall. After retirement, he enjoyed spending his time in antiques and collectibles, where he was established in several area flea markets.

A US Army veteran, during World War II he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Operation. He was discharged as Master Sergeant.

He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Crisfield, and was a charter member and past president of the Crisfield Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Tawes Nelson of Crisfield; two sons, Nick E. Nelson of Tampa, Florida and George P. Nelson and his wife Jo Ann of Centreville, Maryland; three grandchildren, Bryant, Amelia and Elizabeth of Centreville; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Hilda, Edna and Susie.

A graveside funeral service and interment will be held Friday, May 2, 2008 at 1 PM at Sunnyridge Memorial Park in Crisfield. Pastor Jack "Tad" Maroon will officiate. There will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be sent to First Baptist Church, 1 S. Somerset Avenue, Crisfield, Maryland 21817.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.

Petty, Carol C.

Carol C. Petty, of Cambridge, passed away at her home on Thursday January 18, 2001 after a lengthy illness. She was 70. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 22, 1930 the daughter of the late John Russell and Helen Moore Chadwick.

Mrs. Petty grew up in Grosse Point, Michigan, and was a graduate of Grosse Pointe High School. She later graduated from Michigan State University and received a Master’s Degree in education from Western Maryland University. She had been a longtime resident of the Washington area and had taught art at Takoma Park (MD) High School for many years. Later she was a licensed real estate agent in Cambridge. She had been an ardent volunteer worker with the American Cancer Society and was a member of the Chi Omega sorority and also the Cambridge Yacht Club. At the time of her death Mrs. Petty resided in Alexandria, VA as well as in Cambridge.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Petty of Cambridge; three daughters, by a previous marriage to Thomas Joyce, Sarah Joyce-McCarron of Washington, D.C.; Elizabeth J. Temple and Martha J. Dail, both of Cambridge; two grandsons, Matthew T. Dail, Kyle G. Temple, two grand daughters, Caitlin E. Dail and Laura J. McCarron; one sister, Patricia Fogt of Tucson, AZ’ and one niece. She was preceded in death by a niece.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge at 1:00 PM Sunday. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802; the American Cancer Society, C/O Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613, or to the Virginia Tech German Club Alumni Foundation, Carol C. Petty Memorial Fund, 711 Southgate Drive, Blacksburg, VA 24060.

Gibney, Grace E.

Grace E. Gibney, age 89, of Rising Sun, MD died Monday January 22, 2001 at home.

Mrs. Gibney was born on June 7, 1911 in Newport, PA, the daughter of the late Alfred P. & Clara Byers.

Mrs. Gibney was a homemaker and a member of the Rosebank United Methodist Church and the Cecil County Farm Bureau.

She is survived by three sons, James W. Gibney, Bryan A. Gibney, and George L. Gibney, all of Rising Sun; a daughter, Ruth B. Fulmer of Wilmington, DE; a sister, Helen Myers of Newport, PA; a sister in law, Mary Byers, of Duncannon, PA; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Bryan W. Gibney, who passed away in 1991, and a daughter, Mary Ann Logan, who passed away in 1985.

Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25th at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. Burial will be at Rosebank Cemetery in Rising Sun, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation c/o R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Given, Jr., Thomas N.

Thomas N. Given, Jr., 54, of Elkton, MD died Monday March 12, 2001 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.

He was born on November 16, 1946 in Elkton, MD.

Mr. Given worked as a maintenance technician at J.C. Penney Corporation Home Interiors.

He enjoyed woodworking, model trains, sailing, music and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Hope C. Given of Elkton, MD; 4 sons, Staff Sgt. Thomas N. Given III of Fort Campbell, KY, Joshua Given of Newark, DE, Aaron L. Given and Matthew J. Given, both of Elkton.

He is also survived by his father, Thomas N. Given, Sr. of Fair Hill, MD; 2 brothers, Charles E. Given of Newark, DE and Robert C. Given of Yuma, AZ; a sister, Deborah I. Given of Elkton; and 3 grandchildren, Michael, Alysa and Noah.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday March 18, 2001, 1:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in North East, MD.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
