van Overeem, Helena Cornelia

Helena C. van Overeem, 65 of Pocomoke City, died of pancreatic cancer in her home on Thursday, December 11, 2003.

Born in Oudenbosh, The Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Rev. George Cornelis Postma and Helena Cornelia Postma. Her husband of 29 years, John van Overeem, preceded her in death March 17, 1994.

Mrs. van Overeem completed college in The Netherlands with a nursing degree, where she worked as a pediatric Head Nurse. Helena, John, and their son Albert immigrated to Blacksburg, VA in 1968 and became U. S. Citizens in 1976. They moved to Pocomoke City in 1974, and built their own home in 1979.

Mrs. van Overeem was a dedicated wife and mother who supported her three children in many community activities and enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling, sewing, and knitting. She returned to work in 1994 as a dental assistant, where she continued to work throughout her illness. She was a member of Pitts Creek Presbyterian Church in Pocomoke City.

She is survived by one sister, Ankie Postma, and two brothers Cees Postma and Dees Postma; by her three children: son Albert van Overeem and wife Shelly of Bowie, MD with three grandchildren Eric, Talina, and Joshua; son Hans van Overeem of Pocomoke City; and daughter Ankie Roberts and husband John of North Kingstown, RI, with two grandchildren Kaitlyn and Paige.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Hans Postma, Djurre Postma, and George Postma.

The funeral service will be held at Pitts Creek Presbyterian Church on Monday at 11:00 am officiated by the Rev. Lois Lehman and Rev. Richard Hughes. Family and friends may call at the Holloway Melson Funeral Home in Pocomoke City, Sunday from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. At her request, she will be cremated after the service.

At her request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Gerry Harrison, 337 Winterquarters Dr., Pocomoke City, MD 21851.

Van Petten, DVM, Louis E.

Louis E. Van Petten, D.V.M., 80 of Cambridge, passed away at his home on Thursday January 20, 2005. He was born in Illinois on July 7, 1924 and was a son of the late Louis B. and Geneva Eldredge Van Petten.

He had graduated from Aberdeen High School in Aberdeen, MD in 1941. He then attended Pre Med School at the University of Maryland. He then attended and graduated from the Veterinary School of the University of Georgia in 1953. Dr. Van Petten served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and had served with the 14th Armored Division. They landed at Nice in Southern France in July of 1944. He served with his tank crew in the combat zone from August of 1944 until VE Day on May 5, 1945. After receiving his Honorable Discharge he practiced Veterinary Medicine in Damascus, working mainly with large animals for five years. He then moved to New Jersey where he worked for a pharmaceutical company, and later transferred to Norwich Pharmaceuticals in Norwich, New York, where he became an animal pathologist. Procter & Gamble purchased the Norwich Co., and Dr. Van Petten continued working for them and was in charge of animal testing. On June 27, 1964 he was married to the former Natalie Weidwald. Since Dr. Van Petten's retirement in 1991 they have made their home in Cambridge.

Dr. Van Petten was a communicant of St. Mary Refuge of Sinners Catholic Church in Cambridge and was also a member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion, and was an avid golfer and enjoyed sailing on the Choptank River. He was also a member of the Cambridge Yacht Club and also was a member of the Cambridge Country Club. He had been in failing health for several months when he passed away early Thursday morning.

Survivors include two daughters Sue Z. Van Petten of Prescott, Arizona and Mary Beth Shaub of North Potomac, MD; one son Christopher Lee Van Petten of Gaithersburg, MD; one brother Thomas L. Van Petten of Littleton, N.C.; four nieces, two nephews one step son Douglas Woodfield of Toms River, N.J.; one step grandson Darrin DeWitt of New Jersey; one step granddaughter Sandy Yacovelli of Pennsylvania and a dear friend, Georgia M. Long of Cambridge.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Refuge of Sinners in Cambridge on Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM with the Rev. William J. Lawler officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, PA in Cambridge where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:00 PM. Interment will take place at a later date at Old Trinity Churchyard. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Mary Refuge of Sinners, P.O. 218, Cambridge, MD 21613.

THOMAS D. WAGNER

Thomas D. Wagner, age 71, of Cambridge, MD, died suddenly Sunday morning, January 30, 2005.

Surviving is his wife Mildred "Millie" Wagner of Cambridge, MD, a daughter Faye Hoffman of Deal Island, MD, seven grandchildren Don Lewis, Bruce Lewis, Mark Lewis, Robin Ford, Tammy Lessig, Karen Hoffman, Sandy Belusci, five step-children Vicki Hatch, Dawn Hayward, Jeremy Hamilton, Jess Hamilton, Heath Hamilton, all of Omaha, Nebraska, three sisters Leona Moore of Michigan, Helen Mills and Ann Fisher, both of Hurlock, MD and a brother John Wagner of Bethlehem, MD.

Preceding him in death were his parents John and Margaret Wagner, his first wife Gladys Wagner, a brother Charles Wagner and a step-son Jed Hamilton.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. Sharon Boggess, Pastor of Restoration Temple Church of God, Hurlock, MD. Burial will follow in Dorchester Memorial Park with Military Honors.

Wagner, Eric J.

Eric J. Wagner, age 49, of Columbia, MD, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at his residence.

Born in Wilmington, DE, Eric was the son of Richard L. Wagner and Marlene A. (Snyder) Jones. A 1979 graduate of Concord High School he then earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from the University of Delaware. As a certified athletic trainer he owned and operated a personal training and fitness business while also serving as an athletic trainer for high schools in Washington, D.C. He then worked as a physical education teacher and athletic trainer for schools in the Howard County, MD School District.

In addition to his parents, Eric is survived by his daughters, Victoria J. and Alexandra C. and their mother, Jeanne Marcotte Wagner of N. Bethesda, MD; his brothers, Mark P. Wagner of Wilmington and Daniel R. Wagner, his wife, Frances, and their children Danielle and Joseph of Honeybrook, PA; and his sisters, Mary L. Aiken, husband, Craig, and son, Bryan of Kennett Square; and Jane M. Weckerle, husband, Joseph, and their children, Dylan and Sara of Malvern, PA.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd at 1 PM at Concordia Lutheran Church, 3003 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE, with public visitation from 12 to 1 PM. Burial services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Epilepsy Foundation of Delaware, 240 N. James Street, Newport, DE 19804.

Wade, Floyd M.

Floyd M. Wade, 41, of Cambridge passed away on May 25, 2007 at his residence. He was born on January 11, 1966 in Baltimore and was a son of the late Jack and Brenda Compton Wade.

Mr. Wade attended school at Francis Scott Key. He was a civilian equipment operator for the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed fishing. He was married to Amy Destelhorst who passed away on April 21, 2007.

He is survived by two sons Jacob Wade and Justin Wade both of Cambridge, a brother Chester Wade of Cambridge, two sisters Brenda Wade of Florida and Bonnie Miller of Baltimore, a stepbrother Michael McCave of Westminster and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Salvation Army Church with Capt. Richard New officiating.

Wagner, Tobitha "Toby" Elizabeth

Tobitha "Toby" Elizabeth Wagner, 77, a resident of Manokin Manor in Princess Anne, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 12th, 2005. Born in Boyce, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Edward Hade Brow and Irene Wilbourn Brow. She was also preceded in death by her late husband, Rev. Wilby H. Wagner in 1999.

She graduated from Elohim Bible Institute in New York in 1963. She and her late husband served as missionaries in Nigeria from 1965 to 1971 and was a devoted pastor's wife for her husband's pastorates in New York and Maryland. Known as a gracious hostess, she took a lot of pleasure comforting and entertaining friends and visitors in her home. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Tabernacle in Salisbury.

She is survived by a son, Wilby H. Wagner, Jr. and his wife Ayako of Yorktown, VA., a daughter, Linda G. Insley and her husband, James and a daughter, Paula I. Osterwalder and her husband, Michael all of Tyaskin, MD.; sister, Christine Hilda Wagner of Eden, MD., sister, Evon Airhart of Dry Prong, LA., sister, Gloria Yates of Alexandria, LA., brother, Wallace Brow of Paris, AK., sister-in-law, Margery Wilson of Mardela Springs, MD., sister-in-law, Margaret Carter of Seaford, DE., seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Mark Wayne Brow.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 15th, 2005, 11am at the Holloway Funeral Home. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Rev. Steve Wagner and Rev. Lou Bradley. Interment will be at the Mardela Memorial Cemetery in Mardela Springs, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville, Tennessee 37214-0800.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, PA, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, Maryland 21804.

Wade, Talmadge Doc

Talmadge Doc Wade, 93, of Salisbury, passed this life Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care.

"Wade" as he was known to his friends, was born in Rockingham, NC the son of the late Addison and Allie Benoy Wade. He was preceded in death by his wife, Abigail Teresa Impelliteri Wade in 1987.

He grew up in the Methodist Children's Home in North Carolina, after being orphaned at the age of three. He resided at the orphanage until age thirteen when he ran away to New York City and worked as a "soda jerk" on Broadway. He later joined the navy and served on the U.S.S. Coral Sea. He then enlisted in the Marines and proudly served his country in Iwo Jima and Hiroshima. When his tour of duty was over he settled in Newport, RI, where he was a successful restaurant owner. Later the Eastern shore became home. Pemberton Manor Apartments had recently been constructed and he went to work there, "just to pass the time", and retired from there with over twenty years of service. He was an avid horse lover and encouraged the sport of riding, which he enjoyed as a child, to his family. He also spent many happy hours fishing and cooking large Sunday dinners for his family and friends.

He is survived by his only daughter and her husband, Maxine Ann Wade Wheatley and Elwood "Bubba" Wheatley of Salisbury, and their family.

At the family's request, the funeral service and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Wicomico Equestrian Center, 119 Fulton St., Salisbury, MD 21804.

Arrangements are being handled by Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Rd., Salisbury, MD 21804.
