Lagana, Naomie

GREENSBORO - Naomi Lagana, 84 of Greensboro, died at Wednesday, April 03, 2002 at Blue Heron Assisted Living.

She was born May 14, 1917 in Washington DC, the daughter of the late August Maske and the late Beatrice Maske. She is survived by Courtney Lagana (Sister).

She was preceded in death by her father, August Maske, and her mother, Beatrice.

Ms. Lagana had formerly lived in Hoopers Island.

She had worked as a waitress and also did private sitting with the elderly. She loved to play bingo.

Funeral services will be held April 5, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. at Grave side in Greensboro. Burial will be at Greensboro Cemetery on Friday, April 5, 2002.

Raymond Augustus LaBounty

Salisbury - Raymond Augustus LaBounty, 79, of Salisbury died Friday, September 27, 2002 at VA Maryland Health Care System in Perry Point, MD. Born in Utica, New York, he was the son of the late Augustus and Mary Mahoney LaBounty.

Mr. LaBounty was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp and was a WWII Army Veteran. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Meuse Post 194 and attended Christ United Methodist Church. He was a loving father and grandfather whose granddaughter said how lucky they were to have someone so hard to say goodbye to.

He is survived by two sons; Howard LaBounty of Salisbury, Michael R. LaBounty of Lake Royale, NC, two daughters; Cynthia L. Reddish of Salisbury and Jacqueline A. Sanok of Port Jervis, NY, eleven grandchildren; Ryan Laing, Heather Bailey, Megan and Lauren Reddish, Zachary, Taylor, Madison, and Kennedy Sanok, Carrie and Stacy Brittingham, and Ashley Andrews, two great-grandchildren; Shania and Wayne Bailey, a very special friend Ruth Ann Andrews, two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 12PM at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Eastern Shore in Beulah. The Rev. Thomas W. Hurley will officiate. Friends may call Tuesday from 10- 11AM at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803 or to Christ United Methodist Church Building Fund, 211 Philip Morris Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804.

Gadow, Richard Paul

Richard Paul Gadow of Preston, MD died Sunday, July 9, 1006 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton, MD. He was 86.

He was born Jan. 15, 1920 in Linchester, near Preston, the son of the late Edward Paul Gadow and Lena Plutschak Gadow.

He was an automotive body worker and was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. He was fond of all of his dogs and enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden.

He is survived by his wife of over 58 years, E. Lucille Harding Gadow whom he married on Jan. 30, 1948, two daughters, Linda Fairbanks of Preston and Debbie Sheets of Oxford, a son, Mark Gadow and his wife, Christine, of Hurlock; 4 grandchidlren; 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son Larry Paul Gadow. He was also preceded in death by 6 siblings, Alpheus Gadow, Irvin Gadow, Jeanette Shannahan, Lillian Engerman, Adaline Wroten, and Leonard Gadow.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Framptom Funeral Home with Rev. Glenn Staehli, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Junior Order Cemetery in Preston. Friends may call at the funeral from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.

Abbott, Sr., Wylie M.

Wylie M. Abbott, Sr., 65 of Elliott, passed away on Friday February 18, 2005 at the Coastal Hospice on the Lake in Salisbury after being stricken at his home one week after celebrating his 65th birthday with a host of family and friends. He was born in Cambridge on January 16, 1940 and was a son of the late Winnie and Dorothy Robbins Abbott.

Wylie grew up at Robbins and attended schools at Crapo and South Dorchester High School. Since the late 1950's he has made his home on Elliott Island. His working life centered on the water and marshes of Dorchester Co., as a waterman, wholesale and retail seafood dealer, trapper and hunting guide. For 45 years he was employed as the public guide of the Vienna Canvasback and '˜Rat Club. He participated in every National Outdoor Show from 1950 through 2004, winning five Junior National Muskrat Skinning Contest in the 1950's then winning the title of World Champion Muskrat Skinner 13 times between 1970 and 1993. He held three permanent trophies for winning three consecutive world titles and was saluted with a plaque for his participation by the National Outdoor Show Foundation in 2002. He competed in the Champion's Division through 2004 and planned to do so again in 2005.

Wylie was called to active service in Company C, 115th Infantry of the Maryland Army National Guard. He was a Charter member of the Elliott Island Volunteer Fire Co., and held a variety of offices over the years. At the time of his death he was company Fire Policeman. In addition to this public service, he was called on as a private citizen in numerous hunting emergencies. Disregarding his own safety and using his knowledge of local conditions, and terrain, he played a key role in rescuing numerous hunters stranded in extreme weather on local marshes and waterways. Feature stories about Wylie's outdoor mastery appeared in many newspapers and magazines, perhaps most notably on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. He also appeared on 'Scorchy's Corner' with Scorchy Tawes, and assisted the film makers and was featured in the award winning film 'Miss Nora's Store in 1998. He was first married to Louella Gray on June 14, 1960. She passed away on March 28, 1998. HE later married Teresa Whaley on January 21, 2004. He had attended Bounds United Methodist and also Elliott United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa W. Abbott of Elliott, three sons, Wylie M. Abbott, Jr. and his Wife Pamela Abbott of Elliott, Robert Abbott and his wife Trenie Abbott of Laurel, Delaware and Cory Abbott of Elliott; one daughter Wendy Abbott White and her husband Keith White of Laurel, Delaware; four grandchildren Jason Abbott, Kristin Abbott, Jennifer White and Jonathan White and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his first wife he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Janie Rebecca Abbott, two brothers: James W. Abbott and W. Douglas Abbott and a sister Ann Jackson.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Elliott United Methodist Churchyard. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. In Cambridge. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Elliott United Methodist Church, C/O Peggy Gray, 2522 Pokes Road, Elliott, MD 21869; Coastal Hospice on the Lake, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21869 or to the Elliott Island Vol. Fire Co., 2317 Elliott Island Road, Elliott Island, MD. 21869.

Pallbearers will be Jason Abbott, William Whaley, J. Stephen Gray, Douglas Eberspacher, Harold Brittingham, Wayne Phillips, Thomas Obrecht and Richard Barnett.

Honorary Bearers will be: Chester Martinek, Ray Moore, Howard Martinek and Edward Majors.

Fairbanks, Sr., Samuel L.

Samuel L. 'Pop' Fairbanks, Sr., 80, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at his home. He was born in Trappe on February 17, 1927 and was a son of the late George E. and Maggie Lewis Fairbanks.

Mr. Fairbanks attended public schools in Trappe and Cambridge. As a young man he worked for Atlantic Ice Company. In 1945 he joined the U.S. Army until 1946 when he received his honorable discharge. After serving in the U.S. Army he worked for the City of Cambridge as superintendent in Waste Water Management for twenty five years and retired in 1975. In 1976 he went back to work for the town of Secretary as superintendent for Waste Water Management and retired in 1993. On October 17, 1953 he married Jeanette M. Faulkner who passed away on August 22, 1984. Some of his hobbies were wood working, walking and fishing. Mr. Fairbanks was a past member of the Cambridge Moose Lodge.

He is survived by a daughter Brenda Hubbard and husband Alvin Hubbard, Jr. of Cambridge, a son Samuel L. Fairbanks, Jr. and finances' Sherry Travers of Federalsburg, a grandson Alvin Hubbard III, 3 granddaughters Shannon Adkins, Trisha Marie Fairbanks Lemay and husband Jody and Samantha Lynn Fairbanks, 2 great grandchildren Harley Marie Hubbard and Valearia Ruth Hubbard, a brother Richard H. Fairbanks of Cambridge, many nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Besides his parents and his wife, Mr. Fairbanks is preceded in death by three sisters Peggy Fairbanks, Willey Fairbanks, Elizabeth Fairbanks and two brothers Raymond Fairbanks and James Fairbanks.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. David J. Wooten, Jr. officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association, Eastern Shore Chapter, 209 C, Milford St., Salisbury, MD 21804.

Insley, Harold R.

Harold Roland Insley, of Cambridge, passed away on Tuesday April 2, 2002 at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge. He was 89. He was born at Lakesville on February 16, 1913 and was the son of the late Roland and Cassie Fitzhugh Insley.

He was married to the former Hazel Hurley of Hurley's Neck near Vienna. In his early years he had enjoyed boxing. Mr. Insley had worked as a waterman and a farmer for most of his life. He had been in failing health for several years, and had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge for the past six years, where he passed away on Tuesday morning.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Insley, two sons, Ronald and Nelda Insley of Cambridge and Carl and Betty Insley of Madison; two daughters: Doris and Donnie George of Chester, VA and Kay Abey of Secretary. He is also survived by three brothers: Roland 'Dutch' and Lilly Insley of Texas, Joe and Shirley Insley of Baltimore and Bill Insley of Baltimore; three sisters, Marie Davenport of Cambridge, Ruby and Edwin Handley of Cambridge and Dot Palamaras of Salem; five grandchildren, Pamela Davis, Donald 'Dougie' George, Sherry Schubert, Leroy 'Tiny Jug' Abey and Jean Aaron; eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Insley, two brothers: George Insley and Levin Insley, one sister, Hilda Byrd, one son in law, Leroy 'Jug' Abey and one granddaughter, Mary Ann Bright.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. A. Delmer Willey officiating. Honorary bearers will be Robert Schubert and Vernon Webb. Active bearers will be Phillip Frazier, William Trego, Harold Travers, Barry Wingate, Ernie Miller and Charles Amos Bromwell.

Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Paul W. LaBarge

Age 80, of Greensboro, MD, formerly of West Chester, PA and Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 29, 2008.

Born in Pittsfield, MA, Mr. LaBarge was the son of the late Henry and Margaret (Willson) LaBarge. He owned and operated Control Cable, a computer cable company. He was a member at St. Benedict Church in Ridgley, MD. His wife, Nanette (Passier) LaBarge, predeceased him in 2004.

Mr. LaBarge is survived by his sons, Rev. Chris LaBarge, with whom he resided, Ralph LaBarge of Gambrills, MD, and Paul M. LaBarge of Cochransville, PA; his daughters, Marie Shock of Princeton Junction, NJ, Michelle LaBarge of Newark, DE and Renee Lipford of Oxford, PA; 12 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Also surviving are his brother, Ralph T. LaBarge of Florida and a sister, Diane Fairbanks of Virginia.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Sunday between 7 and 9 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday afternoon at 1 PM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Entombment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. LaBarge's name to a favorite charity.

Raab, Joseph H.

Joseph H. 'Bud' Raab, 70, of Pocomoke City, MD, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at his home.

Born March 29, 1932, in Baltimore, MD he was the son of the late Joseph G. and Marie O. Raab.

Mr. Raab is survived by his wife of 52 years, Juanita Raab, two sons, Bruce K. Raab of Pocomoke City and Gary J. Raab and his wife Jamie of Eden; a sister Shirley Kern of Baltimore, four grandsons Christopher and Johnathan Yates and Joseph and Matthew Raab and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Allen C. Raab preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at the family residence, 108 Eighth St, Pocomoke City on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. Kerry Hinton will officiate. Interment will take place Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at 1:00 pm in the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery in Hurlock with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, c/o Gerry Harrison, 337 Winter Quarters Drive, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.
