McHie, G. Edward

George Edward McHie (G. Edward McHie) of Denton, MD, formerly of Hammond, Indiana, crossed the narrow sea to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 17, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. McHie of Denton; two daughters: Susan M. Lacy and her husband George of Denton and Mary E. Diskey and her husband Terry of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two sons: Bill and his wife Marilyn of Baton Rouge, LA and Richard and his wife Marcia of Indianapolis IN; 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, James E. McHie, and one brother and two sisters.

Ed was born in Chicago and was a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of Michigan Law School. Upon graduating from Northwestern, he served in the Navy for three years as a communications officer on a destroyer escort. On discharge from the Navy, he enrolled in law school and received his law degree in 1946.

Ed then moved to Hammond, Indiana where he practiced law for 60 years before moving to Maryland. He was basically a defense litigator, but also specialized in real estate and estate planning. During his law career he also held part time positions as attorney for the City of Hammond, attorney for the Town of Dyer Park Board, and Lake County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. He received the highest rating, an "A", from the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory.

Ed was active in community affairs, serving as past Commander of American Legion Post 16, President of the Hammond Bar Association, President of the Hammond Rotary Club, President of the Hammond YMCA, and President of the Hammond YMCA Endowment Corporation. He was an active member of the Woodmar United Methodist Church. Ed was a long time member of the Woodmar Country Club and enjoyed golf, tennis, fishing, and traveling, especially in his Airstream trailer.

Ed and Betty celebrated 66 years of marriage, and he was blessed in having such a loving and caring wife. He was also blessed in having five wonderful children who gave great support and happiness to their parents.

A memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, April 22nd, at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Denton where friends may visit with the family from 6 until 7 before the service. The interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for friends to make memorial contributions to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 S. Fifth Ave., Denton, MD 21629 or to the foundation fund of Woodmar United Methodist Church, 7320 Northcote Ave., Hammond, Indiana 46324.

Arrangements are by the Moore Funeral Home, _P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton, MD 21629.

Taylor, Ethel Marie

Ethel M. Taylor, 101, of Denton, MD, died Monday, June 28, 2010, at the Caroline Home for Hospice in Denton. A graveside service will be 2 PM Friday, July 2nd, in the Friendship Cemetery near Preston, MD. Friends may call from 12:30 until 1:30 before the service at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A. in Denton.

Fiori, Madeline Fountain

Madeline Fountain Fiori of Denton, MD died Thursday, November 18, 2010, at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton. She was 86 years old.

Born in Smithville, MD, on September 23, 1924, Mrs. Fiori was the youngest daughter of Walter M. Fountain and Emma Cohee Fountain. She had been a cafeteria worker for many years at North Caroline High School. She was also a volunteer at the Samaritan House in Denton and had attended the Ames United Methodist Church in Hobbs near Denton.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fiori was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, and their only daughter, Arlene Kay Fiori. She was also predeceased by her three brothers: Lester, Carl, and Walter, Jr.; and her eight sisters: Thelma Fountain (died at age 6), Grace Evans, Ruth Turner, Agnes Morgan, Clementine Smith, Naomi Jones, Mary Keller, and Gretha Custer. She is survived by several nieces and Nephews and many friends.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday, November 23rd, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second Street in Denton, MD, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The interment will be in the Bridgeville Cemetery in Bridgeville, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for friends to send memorial donations to the Ames United Methodist Church, C/O Mrs. Charlotte Speir, 8882 Watts Creek Road, Denton, MD 21629.

Faulkner, Marie J.

Marie J. Faulkner of Ridgely, MD died Monday, July 26, 2010, at the Coastal Hospice in Salisbury, MD. She was 91 years old.

The daughter of Daniel Anthony Deery and Stella Frances Vegelewski Deery, she was born in Wilmington, DE on January 22, 1919. She graduated from the Conrad High School in Wilmington.

Mrs. Faulkner moved to Denton from Marshalton, DE in 1966 when she married her husband, James C. Faulkner who died January 14, 2002. She worked as a billing clerk for Playtex in Dover, DE for twenty years before retiring in the 1980's. She then worked at the women's shelter in Caroline County, the Caroline Center facility in Denton, and The Gables in Denton. Mrs. Faulkner is survived by one son, Terence P. Faulkner of Lehigh Acres, FL and one daughter, Norma L. Schultz of Ridgely; one foster son, William Kessler of Cana, VA; 10 grandchildren: Skip, Gloria, Cindy, Keith, Crystal, Beth, James, Tyler, Duane, and Danny; 11 great grandchildren, and 5 foster grandchildren; and a special niece, Elma Andrews of St. Simon's Island, GA. She was preceded in death by one son, Lance Faulkner; one sister, Katherine Andrews; 2 brothers: Daniel Deery and Joseph Deery; and one foster daughter, Rita Jansen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM Saturday, July 31st, at the St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church on First Street in Denton. Friends may visit with the family from 10:30 until 11:15 before the service at the Moore Funeral Home, 12 S. Second St. in Denton, MD. The interment will be in the Concord Cemetery on Federalsburg Rd., Federalsburg, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for friends to send memorial donations to the Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Keene, Sr., Leo L.

Leo L. Keene, Sr. of Easton, MD, died Friday, December 24, 2010, at Memorial Hospital, Easton, MD. He was 83 years old.

Born in Cambridge, MD, Mr. Keene was the son of the late Jennings Mace Keene and Mildred Mills Keene. He had lived most of his life on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He had served in the U.S. Army in WWII and later was a Meat Cutter for Pantry Pride in Salisbury, MD.

Mr. Keene is survived by four sons: Leo L. Keene, Jr. and his wife Jean of Richmond, KY, G. Michael Keene of Salisbury, MD, J. Russell Keene and his wife Pat of Centreville, MD, and Andrew M. Keene of Tunis Mills, MD; one brother: Mace Keene of Baltimore, MD; two sisters: Eleanor Voshell of Henderson, MD and Susan Lewis of New Castle, DE; and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Keene, and Joseph Keene, two sisters: Anna Jean Kelly and Cecelia Stafford. He is also survived by his former wife of 30 years, Patricia Griffith of Easton.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staffs at Dixon House in Easton and Envoy Health of Denton.

A memorial committal service will be at a future date, in the MD Eastern Shore Veteran's Cemetery Chapel.

The family suggests for friends to send memorial donations, instead of flowers, to the Dixon House, Easton, MD.

Arrangements are by Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St. in Denton, MD 21629.

Laisure, William H.

William H. Laisure of Goldsboro, MD, passed Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at the Chester River Hospital Center in Chestertown, MD. He was 42 years old.

Born in Easton, MD on August 31, 1968, Mr. Laisure was the son of the late Sharon Elizabeth West Boyer. He was a 1986 graduate of North Caroline High School near Denton, MD. He had worked with pest control for the past 21 years and had worked for Orkin in Easton for the past eight years.

Mr. Laisure is survived by his wife, Katherine L. Laisure of Goldsboro; a daughter, Kimberlee M. Laisure of Goldsboro; a son, Zachary W. Laisure of Goldsboro; two brothers: James Laisure of Denton and Ted Laisure of Greenwood, DE; and two sisters: Sharon Rivera of Trinidad, CO and Nancy Boyer Stefano of Easton.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday, January 3, 2010, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A in Denton where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The interment will be in the Greensboro Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be sent to the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St., Denton, MD 21629 to help defray funeral expenses.

Upaul, Paul

Paul Upaul of Preston, Maryland died Thursday, May 13, 2010 in Caroline Home for Hospice, in Denton, MD. He was 78 years old.

Born in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania November 2, 1931, Mr. Upaul was the son of the late Paul Upaul and Elizabeth Yuhas Upaul.

Mr. Upaul was a Lieutenant with the Anne Arundel County Police Department, retiring in 1986 when he moved to Preston, MD from Glen Burnie, MD. He was a member of the Anne Arundel County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #70 and was a past member of the Glen Burnie Elks Lodge #2266.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret (Peggy) Ann Upaul of Preston, MD; one sister: Irene Carlson of Venice, Florida and a sister-in-law, Joan M. Diffenderfer of Preston.

He was predeceased by four sisters: Margaret Schuiling, Viola Ferick, Pearl Payne, and Elizabeth (Betty) Sabo.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 o'clock Tuesday, May 18th, at St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church, First Street in Denton.

Friends may call at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 South Second Street in Denton, From 10 until 10:45 before the service.

The interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Greensboro, MD.
