Harrison, Marie W.

Marie Williamson Harrison was the third of twelve children born to the late Rev. Jacob and Ortney Williamson in Evergreen, North Carolina. She was educated in the public school system and accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age at St. Mary's Methodist Church in Evergreen.

She married Willis N. Harrison in Dillon County, South Carolina in January 1947, and to that union two sons were born - Maurice and Frederick.

Marie and her husband moved to Maryland in the early 1940's. She joined the St. James AME Church on Green Street in Havre de Grace, Maryland. She remained there until she moved her membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Havre de Grace, Maryland where her brother, the late Rev. Herman M. Williamson, was Assistant Pastor at that time. She served faithfully and was a member of the Senior Choir where her unique voice became a favorite of the membership. She attended regularly until her health failed.

She was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Perry Point, Maryland for more than thirty years and retired with over thirty years of federal service.

Following a long illness, Marie was called to glory on Monday, March 7, 2010. She leaves to cherish precious memories of her both sons, Michael (Velma) Harrison, Bel Air, Maryland and Frederick D. Harrison, Sr., Havre de Grace, Maryland; grandchildren Dwayne W. Harrison, Derek (Tersean) Lilly and Frederick D. Harrison, Jr., Havre de Grace, Maryland, Michael M. Harrison, Jr., Edgewood, Maryland, Federica Harrison and Devena D. Harrison, Fredericksburg, Virginia, Michael Lee, Roanoke, Virginia, Clarence (Brenda) A. Foote, Churchton, Maryland, Alisa M. Foote, Baltimore, Maryland, Bonita N. (Veric) Brown, Annapolis, Maryland and Tamara Fleetwood; great grandchildren Terril Harrison, Shaniece Harrison, Deandre Harrison, Tyree Moore, Teynel Jones, Brandon Williams, Brandon Ames, Amara Anderson, Michael B. Harrison, Derek Lilly, Jr., Laniya Harrison and Iyann Fleetwood; great great grandchildren Terrill Harrison, Jr. and Zyairah Marie Lewis whose birth God allowed on the date of her great great grandmother's homegoing and one brother, Bruce (Claretta) Williamson, Annapolis, Maryland.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Willis N. Harrison, a grandson she raised, Maurice Harrison, and ten of her siblings.

Brown, Leon M.

Leon Morton Brown, Sr. (Tink) departed this life on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at his home in Aberdeen, Maryland.

Leon was born on July 2, 1948 in Elkton, Maryland. He was the son of the late Rayfield L. Brown, Sr. and Esther B. Brown.

He received his education at George Washington Carver in Elkton, Maryland and later graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1966. He Graduated from Cecil Community College in 1968.

He was employed with Constar International for over 20 years. Tink was a very fun, loving person, brother, father and always enjoyed his friends. He loved' to preach the Word of the Lord:

He accepted the Lord Jesus the Christ into his life at an early age. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church were he was a Junior Steward, Worship Leader and a member of the Choir.

His favorite hobbies were baseball, basketball, and football.

Tink leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Tiffany Brown of Delaware; son, Master Leon Brown of Aberdeen, Maryland; two brothers, Leland Brown (Angela) of Elkton, Maryland and Eric Brown of Edgewood Maryland; four sisters, Joyce Webster of Arizona, Gloria Brown (Gary) of Milford, Delaware, Bella Brown of St. Louis, MO and Sharon Davis (Edward) of Edgewood, Maryland; Fiancé', Brenda Myers of Aberdeen, Maryland; four uncles Carl Brown, Earl Brown both of Perryville, Maryland, George Chapman Sr. and Franklin Stewart, Sr. b0th of Port Deposit. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, friends and special friends, Kolene Gaylord, John Van, and Dwight and JD Myers.

He was preceded in death by his parents Rayfield Brown, Sr., and Esther Brown, daughter Kensie Noel Brown and brother Rayfield L. Brown, Jr.

A visitation will take place Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 196 Main Street, Port Deposit, Maryland. Funeral service will follow starting at 12 noon at the church. Burial will be private.

Joyner, Stefan Michael

STEFAN MICHAEL JOYNER, was born August 31, 1958, in Havre de Grace, Maryland to Saundra Cromwell and the late Leon Lee, Stefan was raised by two loving parents, the late Delores Trotter Joyner and Peter Joyner. He was well loved by Peter and Dutchie, as she was affectionately known. He was baptized by his parents at an early age at St. Bartholomew Protestant Episcopal Church, Brooklyn, New York. The family resided in Brooklyn, New York along with their adopted daughter, Shari until his father retired from the transit system when they returned to Havre de Grace, MD. Stefan departed this life on September 11, 2010 at Upper Chesapeake Hospital in Bel Air.

He graduated from Havre de Grace High School in 1976. He entered the U.S. Navy for a brief period and later attended Harford Community College. He was employed for many years at the Pepsi Cola Plant in Havre de Grace.

Stefan was well loved by his family and a host of friends. He enjoyed his music and partying with relatives and friends. He was an avid sports fan and loved to cheer for the Havre de Grace Warriors.

Stefan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Horace and Francis Cromwell and favorite Aunt Barbara (Cromwell) Hughes. He leaves to morn his Great Aunt Elizabeth Joyner Sawyer, aunts Patricia (O.C.) Griffin, Thurl Brenda Snell, Marjorie Holland, Uncle Emil (Lelia) Cromwell a special care giver cousin Carol (Don) Bruce, neighbor Shirley Collins Hawkins, sister Shari Joyner and extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday September 18, 2010, 10a.m.-12p.m.with service starting 12p.m. at Lisa Scott Funeral Home, 552 Lewis Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Burial will be private.

Washington, Patience L.

Patience Lauretta Demby Washington was born in Magnolia, Maryland on April 27, 1922. She departed this life on September 12, 2010. Patience was the daughter of the late, Alexander and Blanche Franklin Demby.

She received her education in the Harford County Public School System. She enjoyed all subjects taught, especially mathematics. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving crossword puzzles.

Patience was united in marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Roy McKinley Washington, Jr. She was fondly called "Pete" by her beloved Roy. Four children were born from this union.

Over the years, Patience worked in several jobs and held many positions, including childcare provider and domestic housekeeper. She was also a self-taught beautician who was sought by many in the community for her hairdressing skills.

Patience, was definitely worthy of such a name. She was a virtuous, kind, gentle and loving woman who loved God, her husband, children and her church. Patience was a prayer warrior and she instilled in her children and family, strong Christian values. She was an encourager who firmly believed that "there was nothing too hard for God". She was never too busy to lend a helping hand and to share her faith with others.

She was a lifelong, dedicated member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Joppa, Maryland. She faithfully served in many capacities and held several offices within her church and the Charge. One of her most notable positions was as the Head Communion Steward for well over 45 years. She was a loyal steward and very meticulous. She always strived to do each task with excellence. She was committed to keeping her church doors open and she worked tirelessly to preserve the legacy of John Wesley United Methodist Church.

Patience was preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband Roy, her beloved sisters Myra Demby Norton and Alice Demby; two great grandsons Jovan 1. Brooks and Antonio Barnes, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Roy G. Washington (Joppa, MD); three daughters, Audrey W. Solomon (Joppa, MD), Barbara J. Brooks (Darlington, MD), and Myra C. Smith (Joppa, MD); one daughter-in-law, Beverly Washington; three sons-in-law, James 0. Solomon, John R. Brooks and James M. Smith; one sister-in-law, Hattie Washington (Baltimore, MD); thirteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren, eight great, great, grandchildren; and a host of relatives and good friends.

Service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday September 16, 2010 at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 800 Trimble Road, Joppa, MD where friends may call one hour prior and from 6-8 Wednesday evening. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Gardens, Middle River, MD.

Memorial contribution may be made to the Jovan Brooks Scholarship fund, c/o Havre de Grace High School, 700 Congress Ave., Havre de Grace, MD 21078

Haines, Larry Matthew

LARRY MATTHEW HAINES was born on September 15, 1951 to the late Bob Dunsen and Marva Gittings. He departed this life on January 30, 2010 in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

He received his education in the Harford County Public School System and graduated from Bel Air High School in 1969. He later attended Harford Community College.

In 1970, Larry joined the United States Army and served 1 year in Vietnam. He was united in holy matrimony to Linda Chambers on June 3, 1972 and from that union two daughters were born, Nicole and Latonia Haines. In 1995, he was united in marriage to Shirley Haines.

Larry accepted Christ at Chestnut Grove Church in Street, Maryland. He enjoyed playing tennis, basketball, reading and cooking.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Shirley Haines; 2 daughters, Nicole Haines and Latonia Haines; granddaughter; Michaela Forchion; mother, Marva Gittings; 1 brother, Willard Hughes; 1 sister, Beverly Hughes; 3 stepchildren; 13 grandchildren; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 12 noon Monday February 8, 2010 at Chestnut Grove A.M.E. Church, 828 Coen Road, Street, MD. Burial will be private.

Harvey, Walter C.

Walter Calvin Harvey, (best known as "Lil John'), loving son of the late Lenzell Mosley and Calvin Harvey was born May 24, 1940 in Campbell County, VA. He quietly departed into eternal rest on September 20, 2010 at home amongst his family.

John spent his childhood in Lynchburg, VA before later enlisting into the US Army where he served as a Weapons' Specialist for eight years.

In 1973, John moved to Baltimore, MD where he became employed by Bethlehem Steel as a Millwright. He retired in May of 2003.

He met and married "the love of his life" Julia Mae Thomas. This union was blessed with many years of joy and happiness until he departed this life.

John was a very fun loving husband, father, and friend to many especially his favorite buddy Wendell Williams. He loved dancing and singing. He was nicknamed by his daughters as the "dancing machine". His favorite saying was that he taught James Brown all of his dance moves.

John leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife, Julia Harvey, seven devoted daughters: Tonya, Theresa, Debra, Angela, Wanda, Cheryl, Cynthia, and one loving son Vernon; two sisters, Gracie Harvey, Annie Jones (deceased); a host of grand and great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday September 24, 2010, 10a.m.-11a.m.with funeral starting 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 116 Alice Ann Street, Bel Air, MD. Burial will be Monday September 28, 2010 in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Owings Mills, MD.
