Higgins, Milton E.

Milton E. Higgins, 76, of Taylors Island passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Dorchester General Hospital. He was born in Cambridge on July 13, 1933 and was a son of the late Harry L. and Ida Moore Higgins.
Mr. Higgins graduated from Cambridge High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 until he received his honorable discharge in 1956. He worked for DNR and retired after 26 years of service. He enjoyed crabbing and fishing.
He is survived by a sister Audrey D. Johnson of Cambridge, a brother James Ward Higgins, Sr. and wife Marilyn of Hurlock, a sister in law Treva Higgins and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by a sister Alverta Dunivin and four brothers William Lee Higgins, Harry Jerome Higgins, Merritt Higgins and Richard Murrell Higgins.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
Dean, Luther R.
Luther Ray Dean, 72, of Fishing Creek passed away on July 5, 2010 at his home. He was born in Hoopers Island on April 14, 1938 and he was the son of Luther and Louise Parker Dean.
Mr. Dean graduated from South Dorchester High School class of 1956. He served in the Army National Guard. On September 9, 1962 he married the former Lind Lee. He was a waterman most of his life and also did marine construction. He enjoyed building boats, carving decoys and horseback riding. He received several trophies and plaques in archery as well as a Delaware State Champion in Archery. Mr. Dean also taught archery at the 4H Club. He was a member of Hosier United Methodist Church and Western Horseman Club of Dorchester County. He was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife Lind Dean of Fishing Creek, a daughter Miranda LeCompte and husband Sam of Hoopers Island, a son Christopher Dean and wife Mimi of Salisbury, four grandsons Sam W. LeCompte IV and wife Jessica of Annapolis, Matthew LeCompte of Cambridge, Logan LeCompte of Hoopers Island and Luke Dean of Salisbury. He is preceded in death by a sister Doris Dean.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Hosier United Methodist Church with Rev. A. Delmer Willey, Jr. officiating. Harding, Jr., Harry H.
Army
Harry H. Harding, Jr., 85, of Vienna passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born in Hurlock on September 23, 1924 and was a son of the late Harry H. Harding, Sr. and May Florence Wheatley Harding.
He attended schools in Hurlock and in East New Market. He served in U.S. Army in the Signal Corps. From November 14, 1945 and was honorably discharged in December of 1947. He worked on his father on the farm until he was 21. After that he worked for Hall & Doty plumbing for 17 years as a plumber. He enjoyed fishing and loved the water and loved gardening. He was a member of the Elliott United Methodist Church and also the Elliott Vol. Fire Co. and Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 VFW.
He is survived by his son Robert K. "Bobby" Harding of East New Market, a brother Roy Harding Winston-Salem, NC and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Elliott United Methodist Church with Rev. James Bongard officiating. Family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Heart Fund, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
Voshell, Debra Lynn
Debra Lynn Voshell, 47 of Seaford, passed away at her home on Friday, March 5, 2010. She was born in Baltimore on September 30, 1962, and was a daughter of Ruby Shores Osborne, and the late Elzie D. Osborne.
Debbie attended schools in New Jersey and graduated from Cambridge South Dorchester High School in 1980. On July 12, 1997 she was married to Bill Voshell. Some years ago Debbie had worked at Cambridge Wire Cloth, Inc. and also had worked at Allen's Family Foods. She enjoyed cooking and enjoyed spending time with her family. Debbie passed away suddenly at her home on Friday morning.
Survivors include her husband Bill Voshell of Seaford, two sons William Dean Bramble John Dean Bramble both of Seaford, one grandson Colby Dean Bramble of Atlanta, GA., her mother Ruby Osborne of Linkwood, one sister Donna Brake of Cambridge, two brothers Richard Osborne of Seaford and Bill Brown of Felton and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:30 AM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. J. Edward King officiating. Interment will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Pallbearers will be Matt Voshell, Jimmy Osborne, David Osborne, David Roberts, Leland Miller and John Thompson.
Mears, Elizabeth
Elizabeth L. Mears, 91 of Cambridge, went home to be with the Lord at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Sunday, May 2, 2010. She was born in Dorchester Co. on July 8, 1918, and was a daughter of the late William and Mollie Wilson Abbott.
She attended schools in Dorchester Co. On January 15, 1944 she was married to Philip H. Mears. Mr. Mears passed away on April 27, 1984. Some years ago Mrs. Mears had worked for the Rob Roy Co. Mrs. Mears was a very kind person, who loved her neighbors and her cats. She had been in failing health for the past two weeks when she passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center.
Survivors include a daughter Peggy A. Spedden and her husband Fred Spedden, Jr. of Cambridge, a special great grandson Allen Dietrich, Jr., a foster son Phillip G. Jackson and his wife Peggy Jackson of Pompano Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the East New Market Cemetery with the Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorchester Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613. Pallbearers will be Frank Horsman, Fred Spedden, JR, Allen Dietrich, JR., Raymond Aaron, C.R. Newman and Phillip Jackson. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
Pritchett, Medford
Army
Medford J. Pritchett, 94, of Bishops Head passed away on April 11, 2010 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born at Bishops Head on August 5, 1915 and was a son of the late Frank and Hattie Slacum Pritchett.
Mr. Pritchett attended schools at Bishops Head. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. On April 10, 1947 he married the former Frances Madaline Ruark. He was a waterman. He enjoyed playing softball in his earlier years and he liked to ride in his pickup truck. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Frances Madaline Pritchett of Bishops Head; a sister in law Beatrice Lucille Pritchett of Staunton, VA and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a son James Medford Pritchett, two sisters Mary Powley and Ina Pritchett, five brothers Clyde Pritchett, Franklin Pritchett, Donald Pritchett, Alton Pritchett and Carlton Pritchett.
Pallbearers will be F. Levi Ruark, Dennis Hrusecky, Earl Todd, Edwin Todd, Snooks Windsor and Danny Pritchett.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Barbara Mills officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock with military honors. Stafford, Anna M.
Anna Mae Stafford, 88, of Baltimore formerly of Cambridge passed away December 17, 2010 at North West Hospital in Baltimore, MD. She was born on August 2, 1922 in Baltimore to the late Calvin McGuire and Blanche Pearson McGuire Insley. She was the wife of the last Jack P. Stafford Sr. and the mother of 5 children, Ellen Anne Andersen (Tom) of Catonsville, MD, Jack P Stafford Jr. (Debbie) of Hurlock, MD, Thomas Louis Stafford (Becky) of Jarrettsville, MD, Robert William Stafford (Bobbie) of Memphis, TN, and Margaret Cindy Bongiovani (Steve) of Sykesville, MD. She is also survived by the following grandchildren - Stacey Andersen, Jonathan Stafford (Cathy), Justin Stafford (Gillian), Amanda Stafford, Romi Andersen, Nicole Stafford, Shane Bongiovani, Gia Bongiovani, Casey Stafford, Kelly Stafford (Amanda), Courtney Stafford, Zachary Smith and Kelsey Warfield. She is also survived by three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was proceeded in death by her brother Calvin Louis McGuire, a half brother Nathanial Insley Jr. and two sisters, Mildred Malpass and Margaret (Honey) Grotendick.
As a young woman she resided in Cambridge and worked for the C & P telephone Company as an operator and was a waitress at Rose Hill Restaurant. After moving back to Baltimore she was employed at Saint Agnes hospital where she retired as a Supervisor of Non-Clinical ER employees after more than 30 years.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Unity-Washington United Methodist Church, Oak Street, Hurlock, MD with Rev. Bonnie Shiveley and Rev. Lloyd Foard presiding. Family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church. Donations may be made in her memory to the Lymphoma Research of Dr. Aaron Rapoport, Grennebaum Cancer Center, University of Maryland Medical Center, 22 S. Greene St., Baltimore, MD 21201. Robbins, Nancy R.
Nancy R. Robbins, 76 of Crapo passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Hoopersville on October 27, 1934 and was a daughter of the late Horace and Sue Ruark Ruark.
Mrs. Robbins attended schools in Hoopers Island. On June 7, 1953 she married Corbett B. Robbins, Jr. He passed away on April 18, 2007. She worked at numerous crab houses, Western Publishing Company where she was a master printer and later she was owner/operator of P.J. Seafood. She was a champion oyster shucker. She also enjoyed search word puzzles and painting ceramics. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas, where her home was always decorated for the season. Mrs. Robbins was a lifetime member of Bounds United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son Woodrow F. “Woody” Robbins of Trappe, a daughter Cindy L. Jones and husband Paul Jones of East New Market, three grandsons Scott Jones and wife Jenny of Fishing Creek, D.J. Robbins of Las Vegas and Corbett Robbins of Trappe, a granddaughter Lisa Robbins Stanley and husband Wayne of Crapo, great granddaughter Lainey Scott Jones and a great grandson Caden Scott Jones, a brother Donald Ruark of Cambridge, two sisters Betty Middleton of North Carolina and Karen Ruark of Hoopersville, a sister in law Louella Ruark of Hoopersville, a special niece Lana Wilde of Crapo and a special sister in law Alma Creighton of Crapo and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Robbins is preceded in death by a daughter in law Dolores Robbins, a granddaughter Sophia Robbins, two sisters Gertrude Brittingham and Emily Ruark, three brothers Horace Ruark, Jr., Freddie Ruark and Ralph Ruark.
Pallbearers will be Matt Ross, Brandon Ross, Jeff Robbins, Harold Phillips, Mike Willey and Ethan Robbins. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Mills, David Wilde, George Wroten, Don Moore, Wayne Stanley and Joe Truitt.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at noon at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Joseph J. Kelly officiating. Interment will follow at Sandy Island Cemetery. Clay, Esther B.
Esther B. Clay, 81 of East New Market, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge on Monday, April 5, 2010. She was born at Frederick, MD on February 12, 1929, and was a daughter of the late William and Minnie Kuhn Bierly.
She attended schools in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High School. She was first married to Herman E. Clay on June 11, 1947. He passed away on June 22, 1986. She was later married to Dorsey L. Bankard who passed away on October 19, 2002. Mrs. Clay had worked with her husband operating Clay's TV in Cambridge for 13 years. Mrs. Clay had worked as a bookkeeper and also a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, doing needlework and also oil painting. Mrs. Clay was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Cambridge, and was very proud of the fact that she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the General Perry Benson Chapter NSDAR. She had been a resident at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge since November of 2008 where she passed away on Monday afternoon.
Survivors include two daughters Diana Jackson and her husband Phil Jackson, Sr. of Cambridge, and Susan Hutson of Bridgeville, DE, one son Richard E. Clay and his wife Mary Clay of East New Market, MD, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and her husbands she was preceded in death by a son Roy Edward Clay, and a brother Richard Schnoor.
A graveside service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at Old Trinity Churchyard with the Rev. Joan P. Evans and the Rev. George Hufnagel officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 5401 Whitehall Road, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Sunnyside Alliance Church, P.O. Box 9, Secretary, MD 21664. Pallbearers will be Philip Jackson, Sr., Philip Jackson, Jr., Martin Schnoor, Paul M. Jackson, David M. Hurley and Andrew E. Clay.
