ARIZONA WINTER
CRESAPTOWN - Arizona Winter, 83, of Cresaptown, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, in the Howard County General Hospital.
Born on Feb. 1, 1914, in Elkins, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ulysses Grant and Glenna M. (Scott) Shaw. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Winter.

Mrs. Winter was a homemaker.

She was the loving mother of three sons, David Winter, Winchester, Va., Franklin Winter, Fernley, Nev., and Jimmie Winter, Mandrin, Fla.; and two daughters, Mary Emmart, Severn, and Carol Kalbaugh, Middletown, Pa. Also surviving are two sisters, Margaret Loy, Augusta, W.Va., and Nayvana Kendel, Baltimore; one brother, Hayward Shaw, Fayetteville, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cresaptown United Methodist Church.

ELIZABETH M. `BETTY' WINTERS
MIDLAND - Elizabeth "Betty" May Winters, 72, formerly of Midland, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at the Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Belcamp.
Born May 1, 1925, in Midland, she was a daughter of the late James William and Theresa H. (Trapp) Winters. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Russell and Agnes Robinson; and one brother, Charles Winters.

Miss Winters was a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland. She lived and worked in Cumberland for a number of years.

Surviving are two brothers, Richard Winters, Midland, and Leonard Winters, Hagerstown; three sisters, Martha Anna Wilson, Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, Angela Knieriem, Meyersdale, Pa., and Rose Marie Mansfield, Joppa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with Father Ed Hedricks officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Joseph's cemetery, Midland.

A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. with Sister Joan Maenner, OSF, Pastoral Life Director, officiating.

MARY B. WIRE
FROSTBURG - Mary Byrnes Wire, 75, of Rockville, formerly of Frostburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring.
Born June 30, 1922, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (McGuire) Byrnes. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Wire, on Dec. 25, 1990, he was the founder of Wire Hardware and Lumber Co., Rockville; and one brother, Michael Byrnes, on Nov. 27, 1980.

Mrs. Wire was a graduate of St. Michael's School and Beall High School, Frostburg. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1943 from Frostburg State Teachers College, and her master's degree from the University of Maryland.

One of her teaching positions was at Beall Elementary School. Mrs. Wire was one of the youngest female principals in Montgomery County in 1955 as principal at Radnor Elementary School, Bethesda. She served as principal at Connecticut Park Elementary School, Wheaton, one of the largest elementary schools in Montgomery County. Mrs. Wire was principal at Wyngate Elementary School, Bethesda, from where she retired in 1980.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Rockville, and the Church of the Incarnation, Sarasota, Fla., a city where she also resided. She was interested in the arts, theatre, gardening, and bridge. She was affiliated with the Retired Principal/Teacher Associations.

Surviving are one sister, Catherine Langan, Frostburg; three brothers, Paul Byrnes and wife Hope, Sarasota, Fla., Joseph Byrnes and wife Ardith, Rockville, and James Byrnes and wife Mary Ann, West River, Md.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Byrnes, Lutherville; 15 nieces and nephews; and 24 grandnieces and grandnephews.

At her request, her body was cremated.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rockville, on Saturday at 10 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Monday at 11 a.m. with Father Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.

Inurnment will be in St. Michael's cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the Diabetes Foundation, or a charity of choice.

The Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, is in charge of the arrangements.

LONNIE E. WISEMAN
OAKLAND - Lonnie Edward Wiseman, 68, of 344 Dennett Road, Oakland, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
Born April 24, 1929, at Boonsboro, W.Va., he was a son of the late Boyd and Ada (Pyle) Wiseman.

He attended the Mountain Top Seventh-Day Adventist Church and was a member of the Friendsville Lions Club. He was a retired assembler for General Motors Corporation in Baltimore.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalind (Faraglia) Eggleston-Wiseman; a daughter, Patricia Wiseman-Poler and husband Darwin, Essex; six stepsons, Stanley Eggleston, Michael Eggleston and Richard Eggleston, all of Oakland, Jeffrey Eggleston, Baltimore, Matthew Eggleston, North East, and Daniel Eggleston, Bittinger; three foster stepchildren, Michelle Alhfeld and Kerry Alhfeld, both of Cumberland, and Michael Alhfeld, College Park, Tenn.; a brother, Ronald Wiseman, Calif.; a sister, Maxine Fowler, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Regina M. Poler and Robert E. Poler and wife Tracey.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, 26722 Garrett Highway, McHenry, on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m.

A memorial service will follow at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Russell Liller officiating.

NETTIE L. WISEMAN
MCCOOLE - Nettie Louise Wiseman, 85, of 21605 McCoole Drive SW, McCoole, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 13, 1912, in Mapleton Depot, Pa., she was a daughter of the late James Martin and Nettie (Nepper) Gladfelter. Twice married , she was preceded in death by both husbands, Carl Eugene Warnick, in 1944, and Lionel W. Wiseman, Oct. 22, 1992. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Louise Warnick and Joan Marlene Warnick.

Mrs. Wiseman was a member of the McCoole Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Queens Point Memorial Post No. 6775 VFW, McCoole, and the United Organizations of McCoole.

Surviving are two daughters, Carleen Smith, Keymont, W.Va., and Dixie Tell, McCoole; three sisters, Mary Everhart, Buckhannon, W.Va., Beryl Warnick, Mount Union, Pa., and Margaret Miller, Fort Littleton, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, W.Va., on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Pancake officiating.

Graveside services and interment will take place on Monday at 1 p.m. in the Mount Union cemetery, Mount Union, Pa.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Queens Point Memorial Post No. 6775 will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Saturday at 6:45 p.m.

GEORGE C. WITT
CUMBERLAND - George C. Witt, Sr., 97, of Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of Mount Savage, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 1, 1899 in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Alexander T. and Ida Mae (Crowe) Witt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Komatz) Witt; one son, Charles Arthur Witt; three brothers, Robert, James and Theodore Witt; and one half-brother, Elmer Crowe.

Mr. Witt was retired from the Western Maryland Railway. He was past member of Mount Savage Methodist Church and a life member of Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are three sons, George C. Witt, Jr., and wife Mary, Paoli, Ind.; Paul W. Witt, Sr., and wife Rosie, Potomac Park, Cumberland; Howard F. Witt, Max Meadows, Va.; two daughters, Ellen M. Lewis, Cumberland; Kathleen Anderson and husband James, Pico Rivera, Calif.; one sister, Dorothy Witte, Cumberland; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Robert McCreary, O.F.M., Cap., officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Savage Methodist cemetery.
