E. GRACE UPHOLD
OAKLAND - E. Grace Uphold, 79, of Maryland Highway, Oakland, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 5, 1918, in Cranesville, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Walter and Jenny (Friend) Boyer. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Orval C. Uphold, in 1994; and one daughter, Sue Ellen Uphold.
She was a nurse's aide at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home with 20 years of service and was a member of the Deer Park United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Davis and husband William, Mountain Lake Park, and Shelby Beamer and husband Kenneth, Oakland; one son, Rodger L. Uphold and wife Marge, Rawlings; one sister, Anna Metcalf, Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Christopher Crawford officiating.
Interment will be in Blooming Rose cemetery, Friendsville.
JOHN LEROY VONSTEIN
CRESAPTOWN - John Leroy VonStein, 41, of Winchester Road, Cresaptown, died Friday, May 30, 1997, as the result of a traffic accident.
Born Aug. 9, 1955, in Cumberland, he was the son of John P. and Delores I. (Northcraft) VonStein, Cresaptown.
Mr. VonStein was a plumber and a former employee of the Cresaptown Civic Improvement Association. He was a graduate of Allegany High School, Class of 1973. He was a very kind and gentle man who was loved by his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Tina M. (Logan) VonStein; one daughter, Tiffany A. VonStein, Cumberland; two brothers, Gary W. VonStein and wife Kim; Marle K. VonStein and wife Jackie, all of Cresaptown; one sister, Vonda V. Mathews and husband Martin, Cumberland; one granddaughter, Vanessa C. Jessie; one grandson, Tylor D. Jessie; five nieces; and seven nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Alan Durr, Jason VonStein, Edward Skelly, Martin Mathews, Richard Broadwater, and William Broadwater.
BLANCHE E. VOISEY
CUMBERLAND - Blanche Estella Voisey, 85, formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at the Cumberland Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born July 10, 1911, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Roland Richard and Lula Mae (Spriggs) Gilbert. She also was preceded in death by her husband Thomas William Voisey, from London, England, in 1947; and one sister, Virginia Jernigan.
Mrs. Voisey graduated from the Mountain State Business College, Parkersburg. She was retired from the West Virginia State Department of Natural Resources, Elkins and Parkersburg. She also was an active member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Parkersburg. Mrs. Voisey had been a Sunday School teacher for pre-schoolers for over 20 years, a member of the Altar Guild, and had served as Sunday School Registrar. She was active in the local Cancer Society, having served as secretary for a number of years. She also had been a volunteer at Camden Clark Hospital for many years.
Surviving are one son, Thomas Gilbert Voisey and wife Nancy, Cumberland; one daughter, Dotty Lu Cowles, Las Vegas, Nev.; three granddaughters, Dana Voisey Neri and husband Mike, Venice, Fla., Shannon Golenia, Fort Worth, Texas, and Kelly Golenia, Las Vegas, Nev.; and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Renee and Brandon Scott Neri, Venice Fla.
Friends will be received at the Good Sheperd Epischopal Church, Parkersburg, on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m.
Services will follow at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Arthur L. Bennett, III, officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery.

CATHERINE M. "CATHY" VIZZA
ECKHART - Catherine M. "Cathy" Vizza, 73, of Eckhart, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 7, 1997, at Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Born Feb. 23, 1924, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Sullivan) Durkin. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Vermeule, May 27, 1996; and three brothers, John, Michael, and Joseph Durkin.
She had been employed at Celanese Corporation. Mrs. Vizza was Catholic by faith.
She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother who was always full of love, support, and encouragement to her family. She loved flowers, crafts and sewing.
Surviving are her husband, Rudolph "Rudy" Vizza; one son, Eric Vizza, at home; and three daughters, Marlene Tull, Wheaton, Cathy Schurg and husband, Gary, Vale Summit, and Janice Vizza, at home; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Tull, Jamie Tull, Becky (Schurg) Clark, Brian Schurg, Joe Vizza, and Brandon Vermeule; one brother, William Durkin, Eckhart; and two sisters, Marie Cooper, Geneva, Ohio, and Coletta Diehl, Wellersburg, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.

GEORGE VITEZ
FRIENDSVILLE - George Vitez, 78, of Selbysport, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at his home.
Born July 29, 1919, at Mill Run, Md., he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Czeranko) Vitez. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Vitez, Mill Run, and John Vitez, Mont Alto, Pa., and two sisters, Margaret Osler, Buffalo, N.Y., and Betty Vitez, Friendsville.
He previously worked for Hillman Barge & Construction Company, Brownsville, Pa. and retired from the Garrett County Roads Department as a certified welder after 22 years of service.
He was a member of Selbysport United Methodist Church, having served as a lay leader, superintendent and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Methodist Brotherhood and the Friendsville Lions Club and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Claudine (Frazee) Vitez, two daughters, Connie, at home, Bonnie Cupp and husband, Ron, Albright, W.Va., two grandsons, Michael Cupp, Albright, Scott Cupp and wife, Doanna, Star City, W.Va. and one great-grandson, Coalton Tyler Cupp. He is also survived by one brother, Harry Vitez, Accident, and six sisters, Ann Johnson, Cleveland, Ohio, Peg Hurley, Braddock, Pa., Mary Crozier, Uniontown, Pa., Elsie Vitez, Grantsville, Jessie Sines and Leona Ross, both of Friendsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Selbysport United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Milliren officiating.
Interment will be in Blooming Rose cemetery. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services. Military graveside rites will be conducted by area veterans' service organizations.

ROSE C. VAUKEN
LAVALE - Rose Cardaro Vauken, 78, of LaVale Blvd., LaVale, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 2, 1918, in Kitzmiller, she was the daughter of the late Carlo and Assunta (Pratt) Cardaro. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Donald Vauken, on March 11, 1992.
Mrs. Vauken was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland, and was a retired sales clerk for Shinnamon Shoe Stores in LaVale Plaza.
Surviving are a son, David P. Vauken and wife Barbara, Goldsboro, N.C.; a daughter, Nancy L. Maher and husband James, Winter Springs, Fla.; a sister, Inez Foley, Annapolis; three brothers, Peter Cardaro, Fairbanks, Alaska, Thomas Cardaro, Charles Town, W.Va., and Charles Cardaro, Newport News, Va.; two grandchildren, Christopher and Emily Maher; and ten nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National HIghway, LaVale, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
Vigil services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8 p.m.
