HENRY B. THOMPSON
CUMBERLAND - Henry Blair Thompson, 81, of Pine Avenue, Cumberland, died Saturday, May 17, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 30, 1915, in Amherst, Va., he was the son of the late Chris Thompson Sr. and Tessie (Blair) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson attended McKendree United Methodist Church. He worked for the Western Maryland Railway, and for many years with Duckworth Brothers Tile Contractors in Eckhart.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Broome) Thompson; three brothers, James P. Thompson, Hyattsville, Troy Thompson, Washington, D.C., and Basil Thompson, Amherst; two sisters, Farrell Turner and Jessie Rodwell, both of Amherst; one brother-in-law, Benjamin Broome; six sisters-in-law, Mildred M. Thompson, Hattie Thompson, Ophelia Thomspon, Gail Thompson, Genevieve Lewis and Dianna Broome; many nieces, nephews and friends; and one great-nephew.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Merki officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
JEROME B. THOMPSON, PhD
CUMBERLAND - Jerome B. Thompson, PhD, 75, of Lake Port Square, Leesburg, Fla., passed away on Monday, Aug. 18, 1997.
He was born in Tulsa, Okla. He moved to Florida in 1986 from Cumberland.
He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Kansas and did his graduate work at the University of Minnesota and Illinois. He was self-employed as a consultant. He was a 50-year member of the American Chemical Society.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy B. (Olmstead) Thompson of Leesburg, Fla. and a sister, Joyce Sharp of Hurst, Texas.
JOAN M. "JACKIE" BARNHART THOMPSON
CUMBERLAND - Joan Marie "Jackie" (Barnhart) Thompson, 63, of Biloxi, Miss., formerly of Cumberland, died April 8, 1997, at Altoona Hospital in Pennsylvania.
Born April 28, 1933, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Leo Cavey and Evelyn (Abe) Cavey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thompson. Surviving are six children, Charles Barnhart, Ted Barnhart, Pam Barnhart, Sandra Dolan, Vicki Robertson, Janice Mitchell and eight grandchildren.
A private service will be held.
ROBERT THOMPSON, SR.
ESSEX - Robert B. Thompson, Sr., 79, of Middle River, formerly of Frostburg, died on Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997.
He was the beloved husband of Edith K. Thompson, devoted father of Francis A. Carroll, Barbara A. Thompson, Robert B. Thompson, Jr., Sandra K. Joyner, and James F. Thompson. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home P.A., 1407 Old Eastern Ave., Essex, at Route 702 (Beltway exit 36) on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at noon.
Entombment will be in Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
RUTH A. TICE
GRANTSVILLE - Ruth Amelia Tice, 72, of Grantsville, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville, where she had resided for 7 1/2 years.
Born April 11, 1925, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was a daughter of Martha Naomi (Maust) Yoder, Grantsville, and the late Alvin H. Yoder. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Tice, Oct. 15, 1989; and a son, Joseph Arlin Tice.
Mrs. Tice was a member of Maple Glen Mennonite Church and the Maple Glen Sewing Circle.
She is survived by a son, Daniel Tice, Dover, Del.; three daughters, Elaine Yoder, Accident, Doris Lichty, Grantsville, and Carol Heagy, Lebanon, Pa.; six brothers, Clark Yoder, Salisbury, Pa., Kenneth Yoder, Roman Yoder, Ezra Yoder and James Yoder, all of Grantsville, and Mark Yoder, Berlin, Pa.; three sisters, Cora Anna Yoder, Salisbury, Ellen Yoder and Mary Opel, both of Grantsville; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Maple Glen Mennonite Church on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Ivan Maust, the Rev. Phil Moser, and the Rev. Dave Yoder officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
NINA M. TICHNELL
BARTON - Nina Mary Tichnell, 76, of 18709 Temperance Row, Barton, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 7, 1921, in Moscow Mills, she was a daughter of the late George Herbert McVicker and the late Mary Marclena (Sigler) McVicker. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert McVicker.
Mrs. Tichnell was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, Olyn E. Tichnell; one daughter, Ruby Nina O'Haver and husband Bill, Barton; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
At Mrs. Tichnell's request, she was cremated.
There will be no visitation or services.
The Boal Funeral Home, Barton, was in charge of the arrangements.
WARREN R. TICHNELL
RAWLINGS - Warren R. Tichnell, 83, of 23757 McMullen Highway, Rawlings, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 7, 1914, in Bloomington, he was the son of the late Phillip Cleaver Tichnell and the late Lydia L. (Barnard) Tichnell. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Fred G. Tichnell.
He retired in 1980 from the Local 489, having worked as a Pipefitter-Welder. He was a graduate of Bruce High School; a member of Mount Calvary Lutheren Church, Westernport; a member of United Association of Plumbing and Pipefitting; a 50-year Mason and a member of Hiram Lodge #103 A.F. & A.M., Westernport; a member of the Scottish Rite, Cumberland; and a member of Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, Cumberland.
Surviving are his wife, E. Mildred (Flick) Tichnell; one son, W. Robert Tichnell and wife, Linda, Bedford, Pa.; one daughter, Linda L. Lybarger and husband, Richard, Ellerslie; four grandchildren, Beth Tew, Andrew R. Tichnell, Richard T. Lybarger, and Terry L. Lybarger; and one great-grandson, Dalton John Tew.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ellis Kretschmer officiating.
Interment will be in Philos cemetery, Westernport.
Hiram Lodge will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the McCoole Rescue Squad or to Mount Calvary Lutheren Church.
ELIZABETH J. TIPPING
MCHENRY - Elizabeth Jane Tipping, 79, of 111 Butler Drive, McHenry, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at her residence.
Born Jan. 18, 1918, in Newark, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late James and Dorothy Campbell. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Francis "Speck" Tipping.
Mrs. Tipping was a retired custodian for the American Legion in Frostburg, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Frostburg, and VFW Auxiliary in McCoole.
Surviving are two sons, James E. Wood, Elkins, W.Va., and Michael W. Wood, Cumberland; one daughter, Veronica E. Flanagan, McHenry; two grandchildren, Teri (Wood) Batchelor and Michael Eric Wood; and a great-granddaughter, Brittany Batchelor.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Perkins officiating.
Interment will be in the Deer Park cemetery.
