FRANCES L. SHARPLESS
MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK - Frances Louise Sharpless, 64, of Mountain Lake Park, died Monday, July 14, 1997, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born June 15, 1933, in Deer Park, she was the daughter of Elsie Mabel Timmerman, Mountain Lake Park, and the late Allen Timmerman; one son, Roy Rhodes; and one grandchild.
Surviving are her husband James C. Sharpless; three daughters, Mary L. Cuppett, Cleveland, Ohio, Sandra C. Shaffer, Laurel, and Donna L. Sharpless, Mountain Lake Park; one son, Donald C. Sharpless, Oakland; three sisters, Helen Clary, Mountain Lake Park, Ruth Friend, Swanton, and Wilma Friend, Deer Park; two brothers, Harold Timmerman, Mountain Lake Park, and George Timmerman, Sunnyvale, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gail Hixon officiating.
Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Southern Rescue Squad or the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
JOHN C. SHAW SR.
WESTERNPORT - John Charles "Jack" Shaw Sr., 78, of 86 Main St., Westernport, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at his residence.
Born June 1, 1918, in Moscow, he was the son of the late Edward Shaw and the late Elizabeth (Palmer) Shaw. He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard, Roy, Walter and William Shaw.
Mr. Shaw was an agent for Monumental Life Insurance Co. for 38 years. He currently owned and operated Shaw and Berry Insurance Agency, Westernport. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va., where he was a member of the Mens Bible Group.
He was a 50-year member of Hiram Lodge 103 AF & AM, Westernport; member of Cumberland Scottish Rite Bodies; and member of Ali Gahn Shrine Temple of Cumberland. He served as treasurer for the Bruce High School Band Parents for many years. He was a graduate of Barton High School and a member of the Barton High Alumni.
Mr. Shaw was dedicated to his work and his children and grandchildren, and was an avid supporter of all their activities.
Mr. Shaw never met a stranger; he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Katherine (Meese) Shaw; two sons, John C. Shaw Jr. and wife Martha, Frostburg, and David H. Shaw and wife Frances Ann, Westernport; two daughters, Julie A. Determan and husband William, Frostburg, and Elizabeth J. Kalbaugh, LaVale; one brother, Harry Shaw, Moscow; one sister, Evelyn Marshall, Lonaconing; 11 grandchildren, Stacy Weimer, David Shaw, Jayci Duncan, Shannon Shaw, Erin Determan, Michael Determan, John Shaw III, Matthew Kalbaugh, Katie Kalbaugh, Jason Shaw and Kevin Kalbaugh; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Cutter.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Jarrett and the Rev. Sumner Sawyer officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.
Hiram Lodge will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont.
ROSS F. SHAW
OLDTOWN - Ross Franklin Shaw, 98, formerly of Oldtown, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at the Allegany County Nursing Home where he had been a patient since 1992.
Mr. Shaw was born at Four Locks, on the C&O; Canal, on Jan. 7, 1899. He was the son of the late James Henry and Orbelle (Carder) Shaw. He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Carl Shaw, Clarence Shaw, Robert Shaw and Howard Shaw; and three sisters, Beulah Ricewick, Clysta Piper and Anabelle Kerns.
Mr. Shaw was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He had been a school teacher in the Allegany County and West Virginia school systems.
Surviving are two brothers, Ralph Shaw, Fairless Hills, Pa., and Raymond Shaw, Baltimore; one sister, Dorothy Hinkle, Gibsonburg, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Milton Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in the Oldtown cemetery.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
MARGARET F. SHEEHE
CUMBERLAND - Margaret Fay Sheehe, 85, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 25, 1912, in Irwin, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John Garfield Jones and Margaret E. Gahagan. She also was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Thomas B. Sheehe; two sisters; and one grandson, Andrew S. Wensel.
Mrs. Sheehe was a retired registered nurse for Sacred Heart Hospital. She was a graduate of Germantown Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Senior Citizens 500 Club, and was actively involved with the social and community activities at the Cumberland Arms Apartments. She, with her husband, were actively involved with the Winner Brothers Girls Softball Team.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas G. Sheehe and wife Barbara, Flushing, Mich., David J. Sheehe and wife Barbara, Mahwah, N.J., and Bernard A. Sheehe and wife Emilyn, Las Vegas, Nev.; four daughters, M. Dianne Wensel and husband Floyd, Wheeling, W.Va., Marcy E. Rice and husband James, Carpendale, W.Va., Leslee E. Walters and husband Wil, Sedona, Ariz., and Marilyn F. Ammons and husband Roger, Short Gap, W.Va.; one sister, Ila O'Callaghan, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren, Thomas G. Sheehe II, Tracy Sheehe, Lisa Hilmi and husband Mohamad, Thomas J. Sheehe, John S.J. Sheehe and wife Carine, Michael J. Sheehe, David J. Sheehe, Andrew T. Sheehe, Elizabeth Sheehe, Timothy F. Wensel, Matthew J. Wensel and Larry, Anne Moses and husband Jim, Kelly Llewellyn and husband Dan, Kerry S. Rice, Christopher C. Rice, Katie Rice, Bethany Ammons, and Bridget Ammons; and four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Kristin, Jenna, and Casey Jones Llewellyn.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Cumberland.
FREDERICK H. SHEELEY
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Frederick H. Sheeley, 77, of 1626 Beacon Drive, Port Charlotte, died March 22, 1997, at his residence.
Mr. Sheeley and his wife of 51 years, Leah (Stakem) Sheeley, also maintained a summer residence in Lonaconing.
Interment was in Punta Gorda, Fla.
EVELYN P. SHEETZ
LAVALE - Evelyn Pearl Sheetz, 84, who previously resided with Harry and Mary Skelly of LaVale, and also at Booth Towers, Cumberland, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home.
Born May 26, 1913, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Mary Edna (Kyne) Sheetz. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, George K. Sheetz and Elmer L. Sheetz, and one brother-in-law, William Plummer.
Miss Sheetz was retired from the Montgomery Ward Company, Wheaton. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, LaVale; the LaVale Homemakers; McKinley Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star; Cumberland AARP No. 2400; and the Christ Lutheran Church Women.
Surviving are two brothers, Clarence E. Sheetz and wife Evelyn, and Donald B. Sheetz and wife Anna, all of Cumberland; four sisters, Katheryn Plummer, Nokomis, Fla., Mary E. Skelly and husband Harry, LaVale, Vada L. Mantheiy and husband John, Baltimore, and Shirley Jean Brant and husband Ronald, Kerrville, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Sheetz, Cresaptown, and Lillie Sheetz, Cumberland; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m. by the McKinley Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star.
Services will be conducted at Christ Lutheran Church, LaVale, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Charles A. Erzkus officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The family requests contributions be made to the Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
ARIETTA B. SHEMER
WESTERNPORT - Arrietta Beatrice Shemer, 88, of 714 Anneslie Road, Baltimore, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at the home of her sister, Malverda Metcalf,of Westernport.
Born Nov. 3, 1908, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late George Kidwell and the late Nettie (Tasker) Kidwell. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Shemer; one sister, Feltorus O'Haver; and one brother, Stanton Kidwell.
Mrs. Shemer was a member of First and St. Stephen's United Church of Christ, Baltimore, where she served as chairwoman of the Raggedy Ann Sewing Group for more than 40 years. The group made and sold crafts and donated the proceeds to charitable organizations.
Surviving are two sisters, Malverda Metcalf, Westernport, and Frances Clayton and husband John, Mount Solon, Va.; a sister-in-law, Jeannette Thompson, King, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 9 p.m. with the Rev. Ervin Huston officiating.
Interment will be in the Druid Ridge cemetery, Baltimore, on Monday at 1 p.m.
