DOUGAN K. SMITH
CUMBERLAND - Dougan Kylen Smith, infant son of Davi Virginia Hetz and Douglas Scott Smith, both of Cumberland, died at birth on Monday, Aug. 4, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, D. Allen and Sandra D. Hetz, Cumberland; paternal grandparents, Patricia L. Smith, Cumberland, and David Lee Smith, Frederick; and maternal great-grandparents, Floyd and Ruth Hetz, Grantsville, and Joyce Swearman, Meyersdale, Pa.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Holy Cross United Methodist Church, Carpendale, W.Va., on Friday at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Harry Burchell officiating.
Interment will be in the Salisbury cemetery, Salisbury, Pa.
The Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, is in charge of arrangements.
ELIZABETH J. PORTER
FROSTBURG - Elizabeth J. Porter, 92, of 27 Beall's Lane, Frostburg, died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland.
She was the daughter of the late George E. and Lillie (Johnson) Jeffries. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel I. Porter who died in 1984.
Mrs. Porter was a homemaker and a member of Saint John's Episcopal Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are one son, Daniel E. Porter, Beavercreek, Ohio; one sister, Esther Miller, Charleston, W.Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation, and graveside services will be private.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, at St. John's Episcopal Church with Father Michael Ellis as Celebrant.
ROBERT C. RADCLIFFE
HAGERSTOWN - Robert C. Radcliffe, 71, of Hagerstown, formerly of Cumberland, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at his residence.
Born in Ridgeley, W.Va., on April 28, 1926, he was the son of the late R.A. Radcliffe and D. Mae (Zembower) Radcliffe.
Mr. Radcliffe worked in Baltimore as a grave digger. He was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Fatkin, Frostburg, and Helen Willison, Lancaster, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The body was donated to science.
BUFORD E. RESH
GRANTSVILLE - Buford Eugene Resh, 66, of 3656 Gary Avenue, Lorain, Ohio, formerly of Grantsville, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1997, at his residence.
Born Oct. 9, 1930, in Grantsville, he was a son of Joseph C. and Ruthella (Swauger) Resh, of Grantsville. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis M. Buckel.
Mr. Resh retired from United States Steel, National Tube, Lorain. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the "Chosen Few," Grantsville American Legion Post No. 214, VFW Post No. 8826, Salisbury, Pa., and the United Steel Workers Union. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Jennings.
In addition to his parents, surviving are a brother, Roger C. Resh, Grantsville; and a sister, Rheta Ross, Tavares, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Klawonn officiating.
Interment will be in Grantsville cemetery.
Full military honors will be accorded by Grantsville American Legion Post No. 214, and Salisbury VFW Post No. 8826.
CECIL E. RESH
GRANTSVILLE - Cecil Eugene Resh, 76, of 501 Zehner Road, Grantsville, passed away on Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, at his residence.
Born July 17, 1921, in Accident, he was a son of the late Thomas and Cora (Schroyer) Resh.
Mr. Resh was a retired construction worker with Local 616 and was a farmer. He was a member of the Oak Grove Mennonite Church and the Garrett County Horsemen's Association.
Surviving are his wife, Emogene C. (Durst) Resh; a daughter, JoAnn Resh, Grantsville; a brother, Kenneth Resh, Salisbury, Pa.; and a sister, Erma Jean Broadwater, Accident.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Earl Yoder officiating.
Interment will be in Bittinger cemetery.
GLADYS M. REUSCHEL
CUMBERLAND - Gladys Marie Iliff Reuschel, 75, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born September 19, 1921, in Crellin, she was the daughter of the late Henry S. and Anna Kathryne (Miller) Keiper. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Charles Keiper; and one sister, Viola M. Keiper.
Mrs. Reuschel was a homemaker. She was Methodist by faith, and a member of the Women of the Moose No. 914.
Surviving are her husband, John P. Reuschel; one son, William R. Iliff and wife Lynn, Cumberland; two daughters, S. Jean Herpick and husband James, Corpus Christi, Tex., and Jacqueline Iliff Dormio, Cumberland; one stepson, John A. Reuschel and wife Debbie, Oldtown; one stepdaughter, Donna L. Reuschel, Va.; one sister, Myrtle V. Edmunds, Ridgeley, W.Va., 20 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Women of the Moose on Sunday at 7 p.m.
MARYLAND J. REYNOLDS
CUMBERLAND - Maryland Jane Reynolds, 81, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 24, 1916, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William and Hazel (Green) Dentinger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor N. Reynolds; five sisters, Hazel Dentinger, Grace Ervin, Dorothy Powell, Marion Dentinger, Navourneen Dentinger; four brothers, James, Thomas, Patsy, and William Dentinger; a nephew, William Powell; and a granddaughter, Ashley N. Keller.
Mrs. Reynolds was a homemaker. She was a member of Emmanuel-Bethel United Methodist Church, the Church Choir, a member and past president of the Post Playground Association.
Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy W. Leamon and husband James, Cumberland, Victoria M. Keller and husband Mick, Jane M. Rizer and Ben Miller, all of Bowie; two sons, James L. Reynolds and Bessie Milburn, Edward V. Reynolds and wife Barbara, all of Cumberland; two brothers, Donovan "Bud" Dentinger, Jack A. Dentinger, both of Cumberland; two sisters, Nellie Martz, Ellerslie, Joan Digman, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Wrentha W. Graham and husband Jeffrey, Eldersburg, Brian E. Reynolds and wife Teresa, South Carolina, Natalie M. Zinn, Bowie, April L. Reynolds, Cumberland; three great-grandchildren, Courtney, Megan and Colin.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Emmanuel-Bethel United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Mildred C. Martin officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Mom was a devoted, caring and loving mot her, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Most of all, she was our best friend. She will be sadly missed by all of us.
DONALD G. RICE
CUMBERLAND - Donald G. "Woody" Rice, 61, died July 13, 1997, in Colorado Springs following a lengthy illness.
He was a golf course superintendent.
Mr. Rice was born June 16, 1936, in Cumberland, to Donald B. and Virginia (Robison) Rice, who are deceased. He was married
Sept. 30, 1960, in Vernon, Texas, to Paula D. Shive, who lives in Colorado Springs.
He also is survived by five sons, Donald E., Brian K. and M. Kevin, all of Colorado Springs, Alan D. of Terre Haute, Ind., and Tony L., Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Gene of Cumberland; a sister, Nancy Shenberger, Levittown, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Rice served in the Air Force for 20 years. He was an avid sports fan and a member of the USGCSA. He had an unbounded zest for life. Mr. Rice lived in Colorado Springs for 23 years.
The Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, was in charge of arrangements.
