ALICE MAE RECKART
CUMBERLAND - Alice Mae Reckart, 76, Cumberland, died Dec. 20, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born April 10, 1921, at Green Ridge, she was a daughter of the late Frank Kifer and Melinda (Crabtree) Kifer.
She was a member of Mount Dale Brethren Church, Hazelton, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Reckart, in 1986; a sister, Ida Kifer; and two brothers, Harry and Clay Kifer.
As a precious mother, she is survived by three children, Shirley K. Lawson, Faye Shipley and husband, Percy, and David Reckart, all of Cumberland; three grandchildren, Steven Lawson, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Christa Lawson, Frostburg, and Stacy Shipley, Alexandria, Va.; several nieces and nephews; a cousin who was like a sister, Evelyn (Crabtree) Kimble, Bedford Valley, Pa.; and a brother, Lee Kifer, Wolcott, New York.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert P. Yost officiating. Her final resting place will be Fairview cemetery.
Honorary pallbearer will be Christa Lawson. Pallbearers will be Gary Kifer and Gerald Kifer, nephews; Raymond Russell, Donald Hedrick, Ray Donahue and Dale Wright.
ROBERT A. MIESMER
CUMBERLAND - Robert A. "Bob" Miesmer, 75, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born on May 13, 1921, in Port Huron, Mich., he was the son of Frank and Ethel (Austin) Miesmer.
Bob graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. During World War II, he served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps, with duty on Iwo Jima. He started his career with the Huron Milling Co. in Harbor Beach, Mich., where he spent 10 years. After being transferred to Allegany Ballistics Laboratory, he retired in 1984 after 38 years of total service to Hercules Inc.
During his lifetime, Bob was a life member of American Legion Post 197, Harbor Beach, Mich.; a member of the Masonic Lodge of Bad Axe, Mich.; the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, Cumberland; Salem Royal Arch Masonry Chapter 18, Cumberland; and a ruling elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Cumberland. In addition, he was an avid golfer, a member of Maplehurst Country Club, and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Marjorie S. Miesmer, Cumberland; two sons, Kenneth J. and wife Mary K. Miesmer, West Hartford, Conn., and Thomas C. and wife Susan Miesmer, Miami, Fla.; one daughter, Kathryn M. and husband Bruce Atwood, Shorham, Vt.; one sister, Frances Hughes, Mount Morris, Mich.; four grandchildren, Sharon and Maureen Miesmer, West Hartford, Conn., Timothy Miesmer, Miami, Fla., and Samantha Atwood, Shorham, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.
At his request, the remains were donated to the Maryland State Anatomy Board. Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Washington Street, Cumberland, on Saturday, March 15, 1997, at 2 p.m. with Dr. O. Morton Harris officiating. At the family's request, memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, Box 1114, Cumberland, MD 21501.
LOUISE M. RAVENSCROFT
FROSTBURG - Louise M. Ravenscroft, 86, of Frostburg Village Nursing Home, formerly of Midland, died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Aug. 18, 1910, in Carlos, she was the daughter of the late William and Carrie (Speir) Morgan. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ravenscroft, on Dec. 14, 1947.
Mrs. Ravenscroft was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Midland.
Surviving are two sons, Ralph G. Ravenscroft, Warren, Mich., and Harold Ravenscroft and wife Nomar, Cresaptown; two daughters, Joretta Ricker and husband Jim, LaVale, and Mary Louise Arista, Berwyn Heights; six grandchildren, Kim Taylor and husband Preston, College Park, James Ricker Jr., Colo., Kevin Ravenscroft, Mich., Tammy Beal and husband Bradley, Eckhart, Stephenie Morgan and husband Tim, Cresaptown, and Jason Ravenscroft U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in Georgia; one stepgrandson, Robert Feciteau, Mich.; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beatrice "Peachie" Warner, The Kensington, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lawrence R. Frye and the Rev. Willliam G. Boyer officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Craig Robertson, Mark Robertson, Preston Taylor Jr., Preston Taylor III, Jesse Taylor, and Jim Ricker Jr.

AUDREY L. MILES
CUMBERLAND - Audrey LaVere Miles, 69, of Allegany County Nursing Home, Cumberland, died Monday, June 2, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 5, 1927, in Oldtown, she was the daughter of the late Frank Lessie Crabtree and the late Mary (Hudson) Crabtree. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Frank L. Ricewick; and two sisters, Thelma S. Patton and Virginia B. Smith.
Mrs. Miles was a retired employee of B&O; Railroad YMCA, where she was a cook, and the state of Maryland, where she was a social worker and cook.
Surviving are her son, Elmer W. "Buddy" Miles Jr., Cumberland; two daughters, Susan Y. Gouker, Winchester, Va., and Diana L. Miles, Geneva, N.Y.; one sister, Lillian Cranford, Troy, N.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home following the visitation at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Lowell Garland officiating.
Interment will be private.
MARY C. NOVAK
ADELPHI - Mary Catherine Baer Novak, 96, formerly of Yonkers, N.Y., died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at the Hillhaven Nursing Home, Adelphi.
Born Sept. 29, 1901, in Yonkers, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ernestine (Blume) Baer. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Novak, on March 11, 1973.
Mrs. Novak was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Yonkers, N.Y.
Surviving are her son, Fred M. Novak and wife Fern, Adelphi; two granddaughters, Peggy Maple and husband John, White Hall, and Wendy Upchurch and husband Gary, Ridgeley, W.Va.; and four great-grandchildren, Amy R. Tootle and husband Brian, Glen Burnie, J. Scott Maple and David M. Maple, both of White Hall, and Kelly Jo Upchurch, Ridgeley.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at Mount Hope cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., on Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, at 2 p.m.
The rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Thursday at 8:45 p.m.

RUBY E. PIPER
OAKLAND - Ruby E. Piper, 76, of Hutton Road, Oakland, died Monday, April 14, 1997, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born April 2, 1921, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Elliott H. and Sarah N. (Lohr) Dilley. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Frankie W. Piper, in 1992; and two brothers, Delmar C. Dilley and Glenroot J. Dilley.
Mrs. Piper was a co-founder of Piper Building Supply Co., formerly Piper Electric and Trailer Sales, in 1954. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Oakland. A graduate of the Frederick School for the Deaf, she attended Gallaudet College, Washington, D.C., and played on the women's varsity basketball team.
Surviving are three sons, Glenroot J. Piper and wife Deborah, Oakland, Fritz C. Piper and wife Susan, Oakland, and Leif E. Piper and wife Barbara, Mountain Lake Park; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Thursday, April 17, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Robison officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakland cemetery.
ESTON R. NAZELROD
SWANTON - Eston Robert Nazelrod, 50, of Chestnut Grove Road, Swanton, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at Mon. General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born April 25, 1947, in Oakland, he was the son of the late William M. and Hazel B. (Harsh) Nazelrod. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, PFC Earl C. Nazelrod "MIA Korea," and Ernest W. Nazelrod; and one sister, Elenora J. (Nazelrod) Jones.
Mr. Nazelrod was a laborer for the Harbison Walker Plant. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and received three bronze star medals and two commendation medals. He was a SGT and Crew Chief on the Huhy Helicopters. He was a member of the VFW Post 10077, Deer Park.
Surviving are his wife Virginia "Jenny" (Wilt) Nazelrod; two daughters, Melissa Lohr, Odenton, and Angela Nazelrod, Swanton; two sisters, Esther V. Cross, Laural, Del., and Elizabeth J. Dixon, Seaford, Del.; four brothers, Ervin Nazelrod, Trenton, Fla., Ellis Nazelrod, Oakland, Edward Nazelrod, Oakland, and Everett Nazelrod, Ladysmith, Va.; and four grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Christopher Crawford officiating.
Interment will be in the Tichnell cemetery.
