CHARLES F. MARTIN, JR.
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. - Charles F. "Tinker" Martin, Jr., 51, formerly of Cumberland, was called home on Oct. 13, 1997.
Charles retired from the U.S. Air Force with over 20 years of service in technical structural support and the Red Horse unit. He received numerous medals and awards, including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award; National Defense Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; and Expert Marksmanship Ribbon; and numerous other citations.
Charles was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Charles F. Martin, Sr.
Surviving are his mother, Lillian Martin, Cumberland; son, Charles F. Martin, III, and wife, Jennifer, Tampa, Fla.; brothers James Martin and wife, Elaine, Lonaconing, and Steve Martin and wife, Joy, Cumberland; a sister, Teresa Corbin and fiance Ernie Mason, also of Cumberland; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear and special friends; also a very special friend, Sandra Olson.
Funeral services were held at Little Chapel Funeral Home, Fort Walton Beach. Graveside services and military honors were in Barrancas National cemetery, Pensacola, Fla.
MARY T. ROSZELL
OAKLAND - Mary Theresa Roszell, 85, of Oakland, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at the home of her daughter.
Born Aug. 20, 1911, in Baltimore, she was a daughter of the late Hugh V. O'Donnell and Dorothy (Gottlieb) O'Donnell. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Roszell Jr., in 1970.
Mrs. Roszell was a retired waitress and attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Lavinia Poist, Baltimore, and Doris Wampler, Oakland; one son, William E. Roszell III, Oakland; two brothers; six sisters; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Robinson officiating.
Cremation will follow.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Southern Garrett Rescue Squad.
CHARLES A. SMITH
CUMBERLAND - Charles A. Smith, 84, of Louisiana Avenue, Cumberland, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at his residence.
Born Jan. 18, 1913, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Andrew and Kate E. (Wellen) Smith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis W. Smith and John W. Smith.
Mr. Smith was retired from the maintenance department of Memorial Hospital. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the Cumberland Eagles.
Surviving are two sisters, Louise H. Smith, with whom he resided; Isabelle Sweitzer, Cumberland; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
MARY L. ZIMMERLA
LAVALE - Mary Louise Zimmerla, 69, of LaVale, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospice Unit.
Born Sept. 27, 1928, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Roy Sechrist and the late Mary Margaret (Sands) Sechrist. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Foster "Bill" Sechrist; and a sister, Dorothy Detrick.
Mrs. Zimmerla was the bookkeeper for Zimmerla Machine Works. She was a very active member of Christ Lutheran Church, LaVale.
Surviving are her husband, Robert E. Zimmerla; two daughters, Kathleen J. Burke, LaVale, and Jenifer K. Willson and husband James, Denver, Colo.; two granddaughters, Carrie Willson and Stacey Willson, both of Denver, Colo.; and a brother Robert Sechrist, Panama Beach, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at Christ Lutheran Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Charles A. Erzkus officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

CONRAD L. MARTIN.
CUMBERLAND - Conrad Leo Martin, 69, of Snellville, Ga., formerly of the Cumberland area, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, in Snellville.
Born Oct. 14, 1927, in Allegany County, he was the son of the late James Bernard Martin and Helen Mae (Scharf) Martin.
Mr. Martin was a retired machinist with Republic Steel and retired from the Gwinnett County Board of Education. He was a member of St. Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church, Snellville. He also was a member of the VFW in northeast Ohio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Janet (Mauzy) Martin; three daughters, Kathryn L. Siers, Grayson, Ga., Jennifer A. Michaels and husband Christopher, Atlanta, Ga., and Judy E. Ruiz and husband Joseph A., Snellville; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Monday at 9 a.m.
Burial will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Barry Romano, Christopher Michaels, Joseph Ruiz, Aubrey Mauzy, Keith Mauzy and Larry Mauzy.
DOROTHY MURRAY MARTIN
Our beloved mother, Dorothy Murray Martin, died today - June 29, 1997 - at Sacred Heart Hospital after a valiant struggle of 20 years with emphysema. She smoked her first cigarette at 16 and didn't stop until 42 years later when she was unable to breathe on her own. The last 6 years of her life were spent on a respirator.
Mrs. Martin was born September 9, 1925 at home in Mount Savage. She was the daughter of the late James C. and Annie C. Murray. She was Methodist by faith.
She was married
to John H. "Dolf" Martin from 1943 to 1975. Together they published The Guardian, a Frostburg weekly newspaper, from 1965 to 1972. The couple separated in 1972 and Mrs. Martin continued to publish the paper until ill health forced her to shut it down in 1979. Mr. Martin died in 1984.
Mrs. Martin is survived by three sisters and two brothers, Idella Gaudio, Clarysville; Melissa Zimmerla and Mabel "Pat" Nicolard, Akron, Ohio; Jack Murray, Flintstone; and Charles R. "Chuck" Murray, Newburg, Missouri. She is also survived by her five children, John M. Martin, Anna M. Radcliffe, and Charles M. Martin, all of Frostburg, Elizabeth A. Stoffer, Jacksonville, Florida, and George T. Martin, Silver Spring, Maryland; and five grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Reverend George Harpold presiding. Interment will be in the Mount Savage cemetery.
In lieu of flowers we ask that friends give a generous donation to Sacred Heart Hospital where our mother received the finest of care throughout her many years of ill health. We are very grateful to all of the nurses, respiratory therapists, and especially to her doctor, Richard Schmitt, who saved her life on several occasions and eased her suffering. She suffers no more, thank God.
IVA M. PERDEW
FROSTBURG - Iva M. Perdew, 79, of 10809 Welsh Hill Road, Frostburg, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997 at her residence.
Born Aug. 2, 1918 in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Perdew and Maude (Wilt) Perdew.
Ms. Perdew was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church. She was a former employee of Griffith's Clothing Store, Frostburg.
Surviving are one daughter, Colleen Matthews and her husband, Mike, Eckhart; one son, William F. Perdew, Corriganville; one sister, Genevieve DeWitt, Landover Hills; six grandchildren, Brian and Jeff McKenzie, Timmy, Sarah, Susan and Billy Perdew; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating.
Interment will be in the Queens Point cemetery, Keyser, W.Va.
Pallbearers will be Brian McKenzie, Jeff McKenzie, Todd McKenzie, Billy Perdew, Kevin Britton, and Kevin Young.
