BERNARD G. MILLER
CUMBERLAND - Bernard Gorman Miller, 79, of Brice Hollow Road, Cumberland, died Sunday, March 30, 1997, at the home of his son, Gregory V. Miller and his wife Paula, in Shepherdstown, W.Va.
Born June 6, 1917, in Jerome, Va., he was the son of the late Rufus P. and Maggie A. (Bowers) Miller. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda G. Miller, on Aug. 19, 1981; and a sister, Georgie Anderick.

Mr. Miller was a retired employee of the Celanese Corp., retiring in 1982. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, where he was the former Sunday School Superintendent and church trustee.

Surviving in addition to his son Greg are another son, Kelly V. Miller, Shepherdstown; two daughters, Cheryl I. Wolford and husband George, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Sherry L. Miller and Martha Craig, Stephens City, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Barton and Dora Lee Bradley, both of Woodstock, Va.; five grandchildren, Cynthia Wolford, Springfield, W.Va., Julie Haan, Hendersonville, Tenn., Adam Miller, Andrew Miller and Peter Miller, all of Shaphersdtown; and three great-grandchildren, Tony Haan, C.J. Shanholtz and Cody Alan Malcolm.

Friends will be received at the Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va., on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Friends also will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Glenn F. Stevens Sr. officiating.

Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the services.

Burial will be in the Mount Tabor cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the grave site by members of the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Keith Funkhouser, Brian Keefer, Benny Twigg, Steve Kienhofer, Jim Ritchie and Danny Slider. Honorary pallbearers will be Zirkle Funkhouser, Ralph Hoover and Bartlett Cottrill.

ANNE F. MACDONALD
CUMBERLAND - Anne Frances MacDonald, 87, formerly of Cumberland, died Friday, June 27, 1997, at the Mediplex of Montgomery Village, Gaithersburg.
Born April 14, 1910, in Connellsville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Fannie (Irwin) Reshenberg. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond MacDonald; one sister, Ellen Irwin; and one brother, Charles Reshenberg.

Mrs. MacDonald attended Indiana State College. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, McKinley Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star, Re Temple No. 118, Daughters of the Nile, and the Women's Civic Club of Cumberland.

Surviving are her daughter, Joan Evans and husband Don, Gaithersburg; and one sister, Mary Audith Reshenberg, Connellsville, Pa.

Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Cumberland, on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. O. Morton Harris Jr. officiating.

The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

McKinley Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:15 p.m. followed by Re Temple No. 118, Daughters of the Nile.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 11 Washington St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

JOSEPH A. MADDEN
CUMBERLAND - Joseph Anthony Madden, 95, formerly of 194 North Centre Street, Cumberland, died Thursday, July 17, 1997, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland. He had been a patient at the nursing home for two years.
Born April 15, 1902, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Robert and Annie (Hodel) Madden. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Kathleen (Kenney) Madden, October 7, 1992; and three brothers, Louis, Robert, and Raymond Madden. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Madden was a retired yardmaster for B&O; Railroad retiring in 1967. He was the oldest member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland, where he served as an usher. He and his wife received the Archdiocese Medal of Honor for their church work.

Mr. Madden was a member of the Holy Name Society, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Retired Yardmasters of America and Brotherhood of Railroad Clerks.

Surviving are one son, Joseph G. Madden, Cumberland; one daughter, Mary Rita Beck and husband Dan, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Beck and wife Judi, David Beck, Debra Beck, and Lori Gowans and husband Bryan, all of Cumberland; three great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Kathleen and Luci; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 8 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland, on Monday at 11 a.m. with co-celebrants Father Tom Bevan and Father Benjamin Madden, O.F.M., Cap., nephew of Mr. Madden.

Interment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Joseph McKay, William Zapf, Joseph Kessler, Robert Madden, William Kunis, and John Daugherty.

RITA S. MALCOLM
CUMBERLAND - Rita Sarah Malcolm, 83, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 9, 1914, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice (Riley) Small. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Vane Malcolm, in September, 1973; a brother, John Small; and two sisters, Mary Zimmers and Jean Hammersmith.

Mrs. Malcolm was a retired registered nurse. She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II.

Surviving are a son, Gregory Malcolm and wife Cynthia, Clawson, Mich.; three grandchildren, Matthew, Mandy, and Michael Malcolm, Clawson, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with Father Vance Pastorious, O.F.M., Cap., officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

FREEDA C. MALLOW
MOUNT SAVAGE - Freeda C. Mallow, 76, of Abucevicz Road, Mount Savage, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 11, 1920, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Freeman R. and Effie C. (Davis) Kellar. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester W. Mallow; two brothers; eight sisters; one half-sister; and one grandson.

Mrs. Mallow was a former secretary and accountant for Celanese Corporation, and the Kelly Springfield Tire Company of Cumberland, a former employee of the Maryland Unemployment Office, and former Deputy Comptroller for the Department of Economic Planning and Development for the State of Arizona. She was a former member of the Desert Springs Community Church where she had been treasurer, a former member of the Westport Christian Church, and a member of the Barrelville Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Sally E. Feeley, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; one son, William H. Seiler and wife Lorraine, Columbia; two stepsons, Michael C. Mallow and wife Linda, Clearville, Pa., and Stanley C. Mallow and wife Vicki, Ijamesville; one sister, Betty Lou Crow, Harrison, Ark.; two half-sisters, Fern Hall, Toledo, Ohio, and Cherry Verne Harris, Michigan; two half-brothers, Clee Kellar and Lane Kellar, both of Toledo, Ohio; two grandchildren, Karl B. Seiler and Gwynn L. Seiler; and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Trever Seiler.

Friends will be received at the Scarpellli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Dr. O. Morton Harris, Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

EDWARD F. MALLOY
FROSTBURG - Edward F. Malloy, 89, of Honeysuckle Lane, Frostburg, formerly of Mount Savage, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at his residence.
Born July 16, 1908, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Lawrence L. and Annie (Wills) Malloy. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Luretta (Welsh) Malloy in 1992.

Mr. Malloy was a retired machinist with the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Mount Savage, life member of the Volunteer Fire Department, Mount Savage, member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1058, Mount Savage, Chief Justice Tanney Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, Cumberland, 60 year member of the Cumberland Eagles Arie No. 245, member of the Cumberland Has Beens, member of the Mount Savage and Frostburg Senior Citizens, and former member of the Maryland National Guard.

Surviving are three daughters, Annabelle Frankenberry and husband Clyde "Mike," Mount Savage, Mary L. Michaels and husband Wilbert "Tim," Martinsburg, W.Va., and Rita F. Malloy, Ellerslie; one sister, Mary Rose Piniecki, Baltimore; four grandchildren, Michael E. Frankenberry, Mount Savage, Michelle A. Tyner, Rocklin, Calif., Timothy P. Michaels, Cumberland, and James C. Frankenberry, Mount Savage; five great-grandchildren, Chris and Jill Frankenberry, Tiffany and Megan Broadwater, and Ryan Frankenberry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mount Savage Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. A Christian wake service will follow at 8 p.m. conducted by Sister Joan Minella and assisted by members of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1058.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Hendricks, the Rev. William Moody, and the Rev. Milton Fields as celebrants assisted by Chief Justice Tanney Knights of Columbus Honor Guard.

Interment will be in St. Patrick's Parish cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Andrews, Paul Kirby, Joe Lothes, LaVere Henderson, John Posluszyn, and Timothy Michaels.
