MARY JOSEPHINE LONG
OAKLAND - Mary Josephine Long, 81, of Oakland, died on Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
She was born Jan. 27, 1916, in Deer Park, and was a daughter of the late Albert C. Mayles and Grace (McCrobie) Mayles. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie M. Long; and by one son, James H. Dunithan.
Mrs. Long was a former employee of the WISP and served two terms as a judge of the Garrett County Orphans Court. She also was a member of the Garrett County Republican Club.
Surviving are one son, Melvin Dunithan and wife, Vera, Friendsville; one daughter, Linda North and husband, Pete, Manassas, Va.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ross Glotfelty officiating.
Interment will be in the Deer Park cemetery.
The family requests memorials be directed to Alzheimer's Research or to the American Diabetes Association.
RICHARD W. LONG
CUMBERLAND - Richard W. "Dick" Long, 71, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 17, 1926, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Hunter Noah and Irene (Steinbaugh) Long. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Francis (Arnold) Long, Jan. 13, 1981; and two brothers, Raymond Long and James Long.
Mr. Long retired in 1981 from Potomac Edison Company as a construction electrician. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was Episcopalian by faith and a member of Cumberland Aerie No. 245 Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was well known for his sense of humor and had an enduring love for his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Ronald Richard Long and wife Tisa, Rawlings; four daughters, Monna D. Young and husband John, French Creek, W.Va., Richel "Shelley" Long, Kenai, Alaska; Clara J. Long, Vienna, Va., and Melinda S. Long, Cumberland; one brother, Russell E. Long, Akron, Ohio; one sister, Mary Smith, Port Orange, Fla.; four grandchildren, Justina Long, Dustin, Andrew, and Aaron Long.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Daren Ritchey officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or to the charity of choice.
WALTER F. LONG
CUMBERLAND - Walter Franklin Long, 73, of Cumberland, died Monday, April 21, 1997, at Memorial Hospital Hospice.
Born Feb. 26, 1924, in Wiley Ford, he was the son of the late John and Eunice (Goodrich) Long. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Husband and Mary Ann Rennie; and two brothers, Andrew Leroy Long and Robert Long.
Mr. Long was retired from Westvaco, Baltimore. He was a Methodist by faith, and a member of Cumberland Moose.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie M. Long; one sister, Agnes Tripodi, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; three brothers, John Long, Tacoma, Wash., Earl Long, Norristown, Pa., and Harold Long, Baltimore; special niece, Helen McGee, Calif.; two special nephews, James Hose, Pasadena, Md., and Joseph Hose, Bermuda; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. with Father Milton Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
HELEN M. LONGERBEAM
CRESAPTOWN - Helen M. Longerbeam, 79, of Cresaptown, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 11, 1918, in McNeil, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Challiss and Clara (Boggs) Cain. She also was preceded in death by one daughter; and two brothers.
Mrs. Longerbeam was a member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, James R. Longerbeam; one daughter, Sandra Lee and husband James, DeBary, Fla.; one brother, Charles Cain, Bedford, Pa.; one sister, Jean Glass, LaVale; one grandson, Michael Lee; and one great-granddaughter, Michelle Lee.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Cresaptown United Methodist Church on Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
Pallbearers will be John Strickland, John Strickland II, Michael Lee, Donald Fost and George Strickland.
GEORGE J. LOWERY
CORRIGANVILLE - George James Lowery, 83, of Corriganville, went to be with his Lord, Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 31, 1914, in Corriganville, he was a son of the late James and Stella (Witt) Lowery. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Anna K. (Shroyer) Lowery, on April 22, 1991; and by three brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are a son, George M. Lowery, Hyndman; a daughter, Faye A. Riggs, Massillon, Ohio; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Holt, Barrelville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lowery retired in 1980 with 46 years of employment at the Amcelle Plant, Celanese Corporation of America.
He was a member of the Ellerslie United Methodist Church where he served as a member of the Administrative Board, the Men's Bible Class, and the Board of Trustees.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, Pa., on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.; on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.; and at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Services will be conducted at the Ellerslie United Methodist Church on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca J. Vardiman officiating. Interment will be in Porter cemetery near Ellerslie.
MILLARD E. LOWERY
ELLERSLIE - Millard E. Lowery, 72, of Ellerslie, died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 7, 1925, at Neffsville, Pa., near Ellerslie, he was a son of the late Edward E. and Minnie (Faulkner) Lowery. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Lowery; and seven sisters, Mary Joe Landis, Annabell Lowery, Irene Lowery, Teresa See, Thelma Kennell, Elizabeth Lowery and Effie Lowery.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Selma H. (Pfitzenmayer) Lowery; a son, Rodney M. Lowery, Ellerslie; two daughters, Deborah A. Albright and husband Gary, Ellerslie, and Constance S. Bridges and husband Blaine, Ellerslie; three grandchildren, Ginger and John Albright, and Blaine Bridges; and three sisters, Margaret Wertz, Mount Savage, Elsie Hyre, RD 1, Hyndman, Pa., and Pauline Lowery, Ellerslie.
Mr. Lowery had worked as a corrosion technician for Columbia Gas Transmission, and retired after 40 years of employment. He served as a MP with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II. He was of the Methodist faith.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca J. Vardiman officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

LOLA C. LOY
CUMBERLAND - Lola Catherine Loy, 92, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born May 27, 1905, in Artemas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Michael and Julia (Robinette) Smith.
Mrs. Loy was the oldest living member of Melvin United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty L. Coffman and husband Carl "Buck," with whom she resided; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Melvin United Methodist Church on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. F. Richard Leslie officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Fairview Christian cemetery, Ingelsmith, Pa.
Pallbearers will be John Smith, Michael Smith, Randy Smith, Melvin Smith, William Smith, and Charles Weaver.
