JOHN M. KOCHIS
CRESAPTOWN - John Mike Kochis, 90, of Frostburg Village, died Saturday, March 8, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 5, 1906, in United, Pa., he was the son of the late Andrew and Julia (Czechovich) Kochis. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret I. (Kopper) Kochis; six brothers; and one sister.
Mr. Kochis was a mechanic for P&K; Texaco in Frostburg. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where he served on the Bingo Committee and was a church usher. He also was a member of the Cresaptown Knights of Columbus Pope John XXIII Council.
Surviving are three sons, John M. Kochis and wife Katherine, Cleveland, Ohio, Philip J. Kochis and wife Phyllis, Atwater, Calif., and Andrew P. Kochis and wife Lynn, Woodstock; two brothers, Paul Kochis and Walter Kochis, both of Greensburg, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Michael, Patricia, Christine, Peggy, Paige, Jeffrey, Stephanie and Daniel; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Father Robert E. McCreary, O.F.M., Cap., as celebrant.
Interment will be in the St. Ambrose cemetery.
DR. LEROY KOHLER
LAVALE - Dr. Leroy Kohler, 83, of LaVale, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at his residence.
Born June 5, 1914, in Lyndhurst, N.J., he was the son of the late Louis and Emily Kohler. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Kohler.
Dr. Kohler retired after 14 years as a professor from the Frostburg State University Sociology Dept. He was a Methodist by faith, and was a Army vet eran of World War II and a Pur ple Heart Recipient. He was a past president and treasurer of the Warrior Run Lions Club, and volunteered much of his time to the March of Dimes. Dr. Kohler was the Valedictorian of his high school and college graduating class.
Surviving are his wife Adrian S. E. Kohler; one son, Richard Leroy Kohler, Ellicott City; one daughter, Elizabeth K. Preston, Colonia, N.J.; and three grandchildren.
Dr. Kohler requested that his body be cremated and his ashes to be buried at the Rocky Gap Veterans cemetery.
Private Services will be conducted with the Rev. Lowell Garland.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale.

MARGARET C. KOOKEN
WESTERNPORT - Margaret C. Kooken, 90, formerly of 303 Walnut St., Westernport, died suddenly on Friday, Sept. 5, 1997, in Belle Vista, Ark., where she had been living with her daughter.
Born Aug. 1, 1907, in Beryl, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late James LaRue and Teresa (Leavy) LaRue. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Kooken, in January, 1971; three sisters; and four brothers.
Mrs. Kooken was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va., and the Belle Vista Community Church.
Mrs. Kooken recently had a 90th birthday celebration.
She is survived by a daughter, Pauline Trevino and husband, Jesse, Belle Vista; a son, John William Kooken and wife, Cathy, Wheaton, Illinois. Bill works for Westvaco Corporation as the Chicago District Sales Manager. She also is survived by a brother, Clyde V. LaRue, Keyser; grandchildren, John Christopher Kooken, Matthew Ryan Kooken, Illinois; Robert C. Arnold, Florida; Paula Grace Fisher, Pennsylvania; Kelli Ann Kooken, Traci Lee Steward and Robin Noel Kooken, all of Georgia; and two great-grandsons, Nicholas and Joshua.
At Mrs. Kooken's request, she was cremated.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Memorial services will follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Sumner Sawyer will officiate.

LUTHER A."POPCORN" KORNS
MIDLOTHIAN - Luther A. "Popcorn" Korns, 68, of Midlothian, died Saturday, May 3, 1997, at his home.
Born March 17, 1929, near Wellersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Allen Lester and Gladys Edna (Bittner) Korns. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Faith (Crowe) Korns on December 2, 1996; and two sisters, Allene and Anna Lee.
Mr. Korns had been employed at Carl Belt, George Construction and Bachman Construction. He was a member of Local Union No. 616 and was awarded a 30-year membership pin.
Mr. Korns was an adherent member of the Salvation Army and did a lot of volunteer work with the Salvation Army. He was a U.S. Army Airborne Korean conflict veteran.
Surviving are one son, Gregory Korns Sr. and wife, Sharon, Salisbury, Pa.; two daughters, Rosalinda Kathleen Long and husband Charles David, Sr., California, Md., and Valerie Ellen (Korns) Palmer, Midlothian and Marble, N.C.; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Shawn, Cary Annette Korns, Charles David Long Jr., and Gregory Allen Korns Jr. and wife;two brothers, Melvin Korns and wife Dolores, Wellersburg, and Alvin Lee Korns and wife Darlene, Hagerstown; and one sister, Gladys Estalaine and husband Dietle, Jackson Center, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Salvation Army Chapel, 701 E. First St., Cumberland, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Majors Robert S. and Georgia Henderson officiating. The body will be taken to the chapel at noon.
LUTHER W. KORNS
LAVALE - Luther William Korns, 73, of Cash Valley Road, LaVale, died Friday, March 28, 1997, at the Devlin Manor Nursing Home.
Born July 6, 1923, in Hyndman, Pa., he was the son of the late Clayton Korns and the late Leora F. (Troutman) Korns. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Korns was a fuel truck driver for Peters Petroleum. He was a member of Fort Cumberland Post 13, American Legion. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are two nephews and one niece; and extended family Don and Claudette Brown and family, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from noon to 12:45 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Gregory Georg officiating.
MARY LOUISE ELLIS KRAPF
CUMBERLAND - Mary Louise Ellis Krapf, 86, of Cumberland, formerly of Bowling Green, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 7, 1910, in Mount Savage, she was the daughter of the late Albert E. and Lydia May (Burall) Ellis. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George Krapf; one brother, William Albert Ellis; and one sister, Anna Lee Hershberger.
Mrs. Krapf was retired from the Celanese Corp., where she had worked in the Bobbin Stores. She was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church and McKinley Chapter 12, OES.
Surviving are two brothers, Ronald Ellis, Walkersville, and George Ellis, a resident at Cumberland Nursing Home; and one sister, Rowena Bennett, also a resident of Cumberland Nursing Home.
Visitation will be at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Adam Grim officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
RALPH C. KRAUS SR.
CUMBERLAND - Ralph Carlton Kraus Sr., 77, of 119 South Allegany St., Cumberland, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 16, 1920, in Cumberland, he was the oldest son of the late George W. and Leota V. (Spangler) Kraus. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Naomi (Kraus) Ralston; and a brother, Robert D. Kraus.
Mr. Kraus retired as an assistant manager from the Cumberland Undergarment Factory.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Lucile L. (Davis) Kraus; one son, Ralph C. Kraus Jr. and wife Lynda, Carpendale, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Jenny L. Kraus and Molly M. Kraus, Carpendale, W.Va.; one brother, James L. Kraus and wife Laura, Frostburg; sister-in-law Mary E. Kraus, Cumberland; and three nieces, Judy, Carolyn, and Janice.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Merdith C. Shryock officiating.
Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.
