MARIE B. BRANDT
ELLERSLIE - Marie Bridget Brandt, 70, of Ellerslie, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 6, 1927, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Patrick L. and Helen C. (Burns) Manley.
Mrs. Brandt was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Beall High School and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland.
Mrs. Brandt was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Donald H. Brandt; one son, Donald P. Brandt, Ellerslie; two daughters, Rosemarie Raymond and husband Rodney, Cumberland, and Michele Knotts and husband George, Ellerslie; one sister, Eileen Wilson and husband William, Medina, Ohio; three grandchildren, Megan M. Raymond, G. Lucas Knotts, and Kristin M. Knotts; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.
Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family requests that contributions be made to the Ellerslie Ambulance service.
Pallbearers will be Bobbie Crump, Mickey Davis, Chris Hertz, Fred Rogan, Bill Wilson and Tim Wilson.
MELVIN GRINDLE
CUMBERLAND - Melvin Grindle, 96, formerly of 1025 Frederick St., Cumberland, died Friday, July 11, 1997, at Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born June 21, 1901, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late John E. and Mahala (Ternent) Grindle. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche (Duckworth) Grindle, in February, 1996; a son, Gerald G. Grindle, in 1945 during World War II in France; a brother, John E. Grindle; and a sister, Elsie Klipstein.
Mr. Grindle was a retired staff manager of Monumental Life Insurance Company, Cumberland Office, and a member of the Second Baptist Church. He was an ordained deacon, Sunday school teacher, and lay preacher. He was instrumental in starting several mission churches in Indiana in the 1950s. In Maryland, he was a strong supporter of the Western Baptist Association and its member churches. He continued to witness to his faith in Christ even after he became a resident of the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Surviving are his daughter, Shirlie Merrick, Cumberland; two sisters, Mrs. Naomi Kuhnle, Swanton, and Mrs. Virginia Porter, Anaheim, Calif.; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Sherrill Dillon officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

DAPHNE F. DEL SIGNORE
LAVALE - Daphne Frances Del Signore, of LaVale, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997, at her residence.
Born in Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late George and Sude (Bullock) Miller. She also was preceded in death by four sisters.
Mrs. Del Signore was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Reserve Officers Association Ladies Club of U.S. Inc., Women's Civic Club of Cumberland, and the Allegany County Historical Society.
Surviving are her husband, Mario C. Del Signore; one brother, Ellis Miller, two sisters, Ocey Beaird, and Sylvia Douglas, all of Urbana, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

ELIZABETH C. FANNON
CUMBERLAND - Elizabeth C. "Betty" Fannon, 73, of Pulaski Street, Cumberland, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at the home of her daughter in Baltimore.
Born Sept. 3, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Esther (Buskey) Travis. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Fannon, in 1993; and one brother, Leo Travis.
Mrs. Fannon was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church; the church sodality; and a former volunteer at the Sacred Heart Gift Shop.
Surviving are one daughter, Christine A. Fannon, Baltimore; one son, Francis W. Fannon and wife Susana, Boulder, Colo.; one grandson, Francis R. Fannon; three sisters, Linda Berke, Delores Thorson, both of Florida, and Marlene Luttrell and husband John, Cumberland; and one brother, Francis E. Travis, Cumberland.
Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Father Frank Brauer and Father Thomas Fannon as celebrants.
Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
ROBERT A. BRANT
RAWLINGS - Robert Anthony "Bo" Brant, 53, of Bloomingfield Trailer Court, Rawlings, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 16, 1944, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Robert V. Brant and Evelyn (Downton) Brant.
Mr. Brant was a member of the Lighthouse Church of God of Prophecy and the Cresaptown Eagles Aerie No. 2883.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene (Scott) Brant; two sons, Robert James Brant Sr. and wife Crissy, Cumberland, and Scott Anthony Brant and wife Tonya, Cresaptown; one sister, Sandra K. Hall, Rawlings; two granddaughters, Rachel Brant, Upper Marlboro, and Kaylynn Brant, Cumberland; and one grandson, Robert James Brant Jr., Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Harry R. Copen and the Rev. Melissa Jessen officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
SADIE MADGE FRIEND
FRIENDSVILLE - Sadie Madge Friend, 100, of 31575 Garrett Highway, Accident, formerly of Friendsville, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born Sept. 22, 1896, in Mount Lick, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late James P. and Ida Florence (Wilfong) Townsend. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Ernest Friend, March 26, 1971; a son, Woodrow; and two daughters, Betty and Helen. She was the last surviving member of a family of 11 children.
Mrs. Friend was a member of the First Christian Church, and she was a homemaker.
Surviving are two daughters, L. Grace Glass, Accident, and Ethel M. Hanft, Youngstown, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roland E. Nairn III officiating.
Interment will be in the Steele cemetery, Friendsville.
