FLOE J. CARTER
CUMBERLAND - Floe Jean Carter, 75, of 20 Bellevue St., Cumberland, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital. She had been a resident of Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 2, 1922, in Mount Storm, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Warner and Freda (Likens) Hanlin. She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer, Garland, Ernest, and Lester Hanlin; and two sisters, Alice George and Pauline Reedy.
Mrs. Carter was a retired employee of the Cumberland Times-News newspaper.
Surviving are her husband, Robert J. Carter, Cumberland; a daughter, Elizabeth Jane Light and husband David, LaVale; a brother, Kenneth Hanlin, W.Va.; five sisters, Betty Cosner, W.Va., Laura Shreve, Oakland, Glenna Streets, Petersburg, W.Va., Leona Dawson, Petersburg, W.Va., and Evelyn Bosley, W.Va.; and two granddaughters, Janelle Light, Pamplona, Spain, and Julie Light, LaVale.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
WILLIAM V. ALLEN
CUMBERLAND - William Vancen Allen, 87, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Allen was born June 12, 1909, in Elkins, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola (Bishop) Allen.
Mr. Allen was a carpenter for the Local 1024. He was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are two sons, Charles V. Allen and wife Joyce, Charlotte, N.C., and Howard T. Allen and wife Sandra, Cumberland; five daughters, Arvalene Walters, Oldtown, Opal Dolly, Flintstone, Josephine McDonald and husband Joe, Beltsville, Sandy Wentling and husband Lawrence, Corriganville, and Janet Magrogan and husband Ted, Beltsville; 20 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Fred F. Parker officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Tabor cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Fred Allen, Gary Allen, Kenneth Walters, Donald Magrogan, Larry Wentling, Rick Day, and Timothy Day.
RAY M. DURRETT
HOUSTON, Texas - Ray M. Durrett, 92, of Houston, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at Park Plaza Hospital, Houston.
Mr. Durrett was born Feb. 1, 1905, in Cumberland, Md.
He is survived by his wife Hazel Smith Durrett, Houston; a son and daughter-in-law, R. Robert and Sue Ann Durrett, Houston; granddaughter, Michelle Durrett Hunter and husband Thomas Alan, grandson, Stephen Robert Durrett and granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Durrett; and a brother, Dr. Clay E. Durrett, Charleston, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest Drive, Klein, on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Klein Funeral Chapel Mausoleum on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Hinkhouse officiating.
WILLIAM A. GREEN JR.
HAGERSTOWN - William Adam Green Jr., 62, of 12205 Delwood Ave., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, March 26, 1997, at his home.
Born Oct. 2, 1934, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late William Adam and Mary Veronica (Clupp) Green Sr. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Constance (Robinson) Green, in 1994.
Mr. Green was an employee of CSX Transportation, retiring after 37 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of Cumberland Red Men, American Legion, Eagles, and VFW.
Surviving are daughters, Catherine Rita Gallagher, address unknown, Rose Marie Martin, Hagerstown, Annie Joy Figgins, Hagerstown; son, Thomas William Green, Cumberland; sister, Margaret Elliott, Baltimore; brother, George Lohman, address unknown; and seven grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd., North Hagerstown, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held in the funeral home chapel Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jack N. Fullen officiating.
Interment will be in the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
EVELYN M. ALLEN
CUMBERLAND - Evelyn Maxine Allen, 86, of 12017 Wood Rose Ave. NE, Cumberland, died Wednesday, March 12, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1910, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William F. Albright and the late Pearl (Chidester) Albright. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Allen, in 1956.
Mrs. Allen was retired from Celanese Fibers Corp. of America. She was a member of Christian Fellowship of Cumberland.
Surviving are two sisters, Winona Phillips, Rawlings, and Lillie Mae Fertig, Cumberland; one brother, Ward Albright, LaVale; and special and caring friends, Shirley Plummer, Cumberland, Tom and Clara Weaver, Short Gap, W.Va., Jim and Karen Wilson and family, Cumberland, and Thelma Casteel, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Francis Morris officiating.

RICHARD K. GORDON
CUMBERLAND - Richard Keith Gordon, 75, of Cumberland, died Saturday, March 8, 1997, at the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born Feb. 2, 1922, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Payne and Beulah Virginia (Hodges) Gordon.
Mr. Gordon was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, former owner of Gordon's Restaurant and Custard Stand, and retired manager and co-owner of Jerry's Liquors from 1950 to 1977. He was a member of the 73 Bomb Wing of the 20th Air Force having served four years in Saipan and Iwo Jima. He also served in the Signal Corps. Mr. Gordon was a member of Henry Hart Post 1411 VFW, BPO Elks 63, Local Moose 271, and the American Association of Retired Persons. He was a 1940 graduate of Fort Hill High School, attended Potomac State College, and served as treasurer of Fort Hill Band Parents for 20 years.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Lee (Wilkinson) Gordon; two daughters, Connie Gordon Murray and husband Paul, Alexandria, Va., and Cathy Marie Prieston and husband Evans, Chambersburg; and four grandchildren, Chelsea Murray, Elena Prieston, Jonathan Prieston and Brady Murray.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. The BPO Elks 63 will hold a memorial service on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Roger E. Tuning officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military services will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Evans Prieston, Paul Murray, Paul Couter, Bill Lloyd, Harold Hartman and Bill Hinkle.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Yates, James Racco, Robert Bowers, Donald Lester and Donald Smith.

MARIE A. CARTER
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Marie Arbutus Carter, 81, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Cumberland, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at her daughter's residence after a lengthy illness.
Born Nov. 15, 1915, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James A. Courtney and Georgia Etta Gordon. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Holley; and a grandson she loved and cherished, James Allen Courtney.
Mrs. Carter attended the public elementary schools and the Carver High School in Cumberland. She was baptized at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cumberland. She enjoyed working and spent many hours at Grants and Rosenbaums Department Stores, and worked many years at the Fort Cumberland Hotel. She later retired from Eyerly's Department Store. On her days off, she loved socializing with her very close friends.
Mrs. Carter married William A. Carter in 1940 and was the mother of two children. She devoted her time to family and always looked forward to the time she could spend with her daughter and grandchildren. She moved to Pittsburgh in October, 1996, to live with her daughter.
Surviving are one son, James A. Courtney and wife Mary, Cumberland; one daughter, Wilma A. Buford, Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Gina Loraine Courtney, Wendy Leah Armstrong, Shawn Douglas Courtney, Stephanie Marie Buford, and Staci Denise Buford; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Among Mrs. Carter's survivors are a grandson, Timothy Lee Martin.
Pallbearers will be Frank Yates, Charles Yates, William Younger, Danny Darr, Charles Green, and Reggie Meade. Honorary pallbearer will be James Moreland.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. only.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. David Coleman officiating.
