EARL F. ANDERSON
LONACONING - Earl Frederick Anderson, 72, of 40 Florida Way, Lonaconing, died Saturday, May 10, 1997, at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, where he had been a resident since June 3, 1996.
Born Nov. 14, 1924, in Lonaconing, he was a son of the late James H. and Atlantic "Lannie" (Click) Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was Methodist by faith. He was a 1942 graduate of Central High School, Lonaconing. After graduating high school, Earl worked for the N.Y.A. in Lonaconing before going into the U.S. Army. Mr. Anderson was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in the European Theater, 567th Anti-Aircraft Battalion, 3rd Army, under General George S. Patton.
Earl was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the American Theater Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theater with four bronze stars, indicating participation in the North France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns.
His other decorations included an Army of Occupation Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button World War II, Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar, Expert Badge with Submachine Gun Bar, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a retired machinist of Celanese Fibers Co. with 42 years of service. He was a member of Mountain Lodge No. 99 A.F. & A.M., Frostburg; a member of the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, Cumberland, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite, Valley of Cumberland.
He was a member of American Legion Farrady Post No. 24, Frostburg, a member of the Senior Citizens of Georges Creek, and a member of the AARP.
Surviving are his wife, Lila Maxine (Beeman) Anderson; two daughters, Sarah A. Daniels and husband Jim, New Creek, W.Va., and Rhonda A. Ternent and husband Mark, Wyo.; one grandson, James Daniels; one sister, Vernell Gowans and husband Marvin, Winchester, Va.; and two brothers, John "Jack" Anderson and wife Mary, Frostburg, and Harold F. Anderson and wife Erma, Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Mountain Lodge No. 99 A.F. & A.M. will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
Interment will be in Laurel Hills cemetery, Moscow Mills.
Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Farrady Post No. 24, Frostburg.
ANTHONY L. "PETE" DREES JR.
FINZEL - Anthony L. "Pete" Drees Jr., 66, of 2706 Finzel Road, Frostburg, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at his residence.
Born March 12, 1931, in Finzel, he was the son of the late Anthony Drees Sr. and Dessie (Rosenberger) Drees. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Drees.
Mr. Drees was retired from the Celanese Fibers Corp., Bobbin Department. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pocahontas. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was a member of Farrady Post 24, American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 8826; and the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 40.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Shirley (Metz) Drees; one son, Ronald L. Drees and wife Helen, Finzel; three daughters, Brenda S. Robeson and husband Kenneth, Finzel, Penny A. Caton and husband Robert, Finzel, and Tammy M. Baer and husband Larry, Pocahontas; four sisters, Anna Lynch, Frostburg, Mary Jane Burdock, Finzel, Margaret Baer, Pocahontas, and Shirley Winner, Consol; one brother, Larry Drees, Pocahontas; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pocahontas, on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Bernard White as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Finzel cemetery. Pallbearers will be Oliver Bolden, Jim Baker, Jack Robeson, Walter Deal, Lawrence Paul and Billy Brown.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.
LEE B. CARROLL
LIVE OAK, TEXAS - Senior Master Sgt. Lee B. Carroll, 45, U.S. Air Force Retired, of Live Oak, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997.
He was born in Cumberland, Md., on June 21, 1952. He was preceded in death by his son, Lee B. Carroll II.
Mr. Lee was a 1971 graduate of Fort Hill High School, Cumberland.
Surviving are his wife, Prajorabsri Carroll, Live Oak; a daughter, Yvonne Carroll, San Antonio; two sisters, Donna King and her husband Bill, and Chris Cottrill, all of Maryland; a brother, Gary Carroll and wife Rita, West Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk, Universal City, on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 3 p.m. with Everett L. Hysten officiating.
Masonic services will follow in the chapel with Randolph Masonic Lodge No. 1268.
VIRGINIA FISHER
CUMBERLAND - Virginia (Spencer) Weimer Fisher, 73, of Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, died Friday, March 28, 1997, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born Oct. 30, 1923, in Mount Savage she was the daughter of the late Fred C. and Bessie Frances (Whitacre) Spencer.
Mrs. Fisher was a member of Central Assembly of God Church. She was a retired bookkeeper and office manager, and member of the Cumberland Eagles and Cumberland Redman Club.
Surviving are two sons, Carl Wayne Weimer and his companion Fran Garlitz of Cumberland, and Ronnie Ray Weimer and wife Marsha, Baltimore; one daughter, Marjie Lee George, Cumberland; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Lantz officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mount Savage United Methodist cemetery.
LEE A. GREEN
MOUNT SAVAGE - Lee Arthur Green, 99, of Frostburg Heights Apartments, formerly of Mount Savage, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Born March 13, 1898, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Frank R. and Ginny (McMullen) Green. He also was preceded in death by one daughter; two sisters; and three brothers.
Mr. Green was a retired automobile garage owner. He was Methodist by faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Thelma Moran, Washington, D.C., four grandchildren, Larry Prichard, Va., Jay Prichard, Calif., June Ann Martin, Morantown, and John B. Moran Jr., Seabrook; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Frost Mansion Funeral Home, 58 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Aist officiating.
Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
RONALD W. HITE
SEVERN - Ronald W. Hite, 57, of Severn, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at Sibley Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Born Nov. 16, 1939, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Marvin Wilbur Hite and the late Ruth Lucille (Dicken) Hite. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Smith.
Mr. Hite was employed by Andriana Furs in Washington. He was a member of Teamsters #639. Mr. Hite was an avid Orioles fan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Surviving are his wife, Andrea (Spargo) Hite, Severn; a daughter, Laura Smith and fiancee, Steven Burcky, Severn; a brother Wilbur Hite and wife, Delores, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeal Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Sherrill Dillon officiating.
At Mr. Hite's request, his remains will be cremated.
