IRA T. WATKINS
CUMBERLAND - Ira T. Watkins, 92, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 25, 1905, in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of the late William and Mary Katherine (Bieletz) Watkins. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl M. Watkins; two sons, Ira T. Watkins Jr. and Richard Watkins; and two brothers, Richard Watkins and Frederick Watkins.
Mr. Watkins was a retired auto mechanic having worked for Potomac Motors and various other garages.
Surviving are a daughter, Alphia Sharpless and husband Richard L., Frostburg; a sister, Trennetta W. Winebrenner, Mount Savage; two brothers, Karl Watkins and wife Dolly, Morantown, and Stephen Valentine and wife Pearl, Mount Savage; six grandchildren, Tracey M. Sharpless and fiance Scott Henninger, Memphis, Tenn., Tricia K. Sharpless, Tara Lee Sharpless and Richard "Sparky" Sharpless, all of Frostburg, Ira T. Watkins III and Kelly Lantz, both of LaVale; a special great-granddaughter, De'Ara Lee; and 13 nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.
Interment will follow in St. John's cemetery, Meyersdale, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Watkins to the Frostburg Senior Citizens Center, 27 S. Water St., Frostburg, MD 21532.
Pallbearers will be Bill Watkins, Harold Watkins, George Watkins, Stanley Watkins, Sparky Sharpless and Dennis Blank.
JAMES B. WATSON JR.
WESTERNPORT - James B. Watson Jr., 62, of 4208 Westernport Road, Westernport, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born in Piedmont, W.Va., on Dec. 7, 1936, he was the son of the late James B. and Lillian C. (Jones) Watson.
Mr. Watson retired in 1974 as a Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy, having served in the Vietnam War, with 23 years of service time. Mr. Watson served on the USS Americana. He also retired from the Allegany County Animal Shelter. He also held two associate degrees in Veterinary Science and Agriculture from Garrett Community College and was a graduate from the Pennsylvania School of Gunsmithing. Mr. Watson was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church, Westernport, and Queens Point V.F.W. #6775, McCoole.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene (Wilt) Watson; four sons, Michael R. Watson, Seattle, Wash., James B. Watson, III, Keyser, W.Va., John R. Watson, Fort Bragg, N.C., and Thomas J. Watson, Westernport; one sister, Louise Walker, Marydale; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peters Catholic Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Father James Hannon officiating.
Interment will follow in the Union-Friendship cemetery on the Watson Family Farm, Westernport.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or to the American Diabetes Foundation.
VIRGINIA L. WEATHERHOLT
CUMBERLAND - Virginia Lee Weatherholt, 79, formerly of Altamont Terrace and N. Mechanic Street, Cumberland, died Friday, May 2, 1998, at the Devlin Manor Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 26, 1918, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Charles LeRoy Allamong and Telco (Miller) Allamong Johnson.
Surviving are her husband, Carl Raymond Weatherholt; and one daughter, Sondra Lee Moore and husband Richard, Riverdale.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Greenmount cemetery on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Arthur D. Leaker officiating.
The Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.
VIRGINA MARY WEAVER
CUMBERLAND - Virginia Mary Weaver, 57, of Cumberland, died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 7, 1940, in Levittown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles S. and Mary M. (Keller) Wilson. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth C. Armstrong.
Mrs. Weaver was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth D. Weaver; one son, Joseph J. Armstrong, Levittown; three daughters, Debra J. Middleton, Belinda L. Barnes, both of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Jean Ann Sites, Cumberland; one sister, Joan Rasmussen and husband, Joe, Croydon, Pa.; and nine grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John R. Herbst officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
Pallbearers will be Gene Youngblood, Larry Ray Weaver, James Lee Farnsworth and Jeff Weaver.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Hospital.
RICHARD A. "DICK" WEDDLE
IOWA CITY, Iowa - Richard A. "Dick" Weddle, age 73, of 3135 12th Ave. N.E., Iowa City, died of cancer on Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at his home.
Masonic and memorial services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the George L. Gay Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Chaplain Mary Kay Kusner.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be given to Iowa City Hospice.
Richard "Dick" Allen Weddle was born Jan. 30, 1925, in Barrelville, Md., the son of Joseph "Dick" and Mary (Shipway) Weddle. He attended schools in Flintstone, Md., and he married
Virginia Eichelberger on Feb. 9, 1948, in Cumberland, Md.
He was in the Air Force during World War II and the Navy Air Force for the following seven years. He worked for NASA with the manned orbiting flight test, and later for the U.S. Postal Service.
They moved to Iowa City in 1993. He was a member of the Shriners and a 32nd Degree Mason in the Hernando County, Fla., area, and he was a member of the Jessamine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Iowa City.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Weddle, Iowa City; a son, Richard Allen Weddle Jr., Brooksville, Fla.; a daughter, Susan (Richard) Wallen, Iowa City; mother, Mary Weddle, Flintstone; a grandson; a step-granddaughter; two brothers, Lester Weddle, Flintstone, and Fred Weddle, Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Phillis Ault, Whitestone, Va., Clarice Hentsey, Heathstone, Va., and Beverly Waggoner, Gainesville, Fla.
MAE RUTH WEICHT
FLINTSTONE - Mae Ruth Weicht, 97, residing at the Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of Flintstone, died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Memorial Hospital shortly after arrival.
Born Dec. 13, 1900, in Belle Grove, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Trail and the late Amanda Elizabeth (Swain) Trail. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Miram Weicht; and a son, Paul L. Weicht.
Mrs. Weicht was a member of Murley's Branch United Methodist Church in Flintstone.
Surviving are four sons, Thomas Weicht and wife, Jean, Dover, Pa., Kenneth Weicht, Gaithersburg, Nelson D. Weicht and wife, Alice, Little Orleans, and Donald R. Weicht Sr., and wife Jo Ann, Williamsport; three daughters, Adella Ruth Durrett and husband, John, Hyndman, Pa., Sue E. Kisamore and husband, Eugene, Flintstone, and Shirley L. Bender and husband, Howard, LaVale; two sisters, Evelyn Heavner, Flintstone, and Mary Rowe, Cumberland; 24 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will be in Piney Plains cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
