F. BROOKE WHITING II
SANTA MONICA, Calif. - F. Brooke Whiting II, 79, of Los Angeles, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Monday, July 27, 1998, at St. John's Health Center, Santa Monica.
Born Dec. 5, 1918, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late F. Brooke Whiting I and Ruth (White) Whiting.
Mr. Whiting was a retired rare book librarian at the University of California at Los Angeles. He was in American Field Service from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He was a graduate of Tome Preparatory School; he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1941 from the University of Virginia and his Master of Arts degree in 1957 from Columbia University of New York, N.Y.
Surviving are five cousins, Betty Lee Wilson, Amanda W. Ruthenberg and husband Ron, William A. Kanner and Elizabeth Ann Kanner, all of Cumberland, and Dr. William A. Gracie and wife Phyllis Ann and family, Ann Arbor, Mich.
At Mr. Whiting's request, his body was cremated.
A memorial service will be celebrated at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Cumberland, Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Edward C. Chapman officiating.
Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Interment will be in the Rose Hill cemetery, Cumberland.

BETTY J. WHITTINGTON
LONACONING - Betty Jane Whittington, 75, of 42 W. Main St., Lonaconing, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 16, 1923, at Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late Hugh C. and Elizabeth "Bid" (McKenty) Fazenbaker. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Whittington, July 28, 1993; and an infant son, James Lee Whittington; and one sister, Bernice Mae Lancaster.
She was a devoted homemaker, and after five years she is with her devoted husband.
Betty was a member of Bethel Holiness Church, Morning Star Temple #1 Pythian Sisters, and Georges Creek Senior Citizens, all of Lonaconing. She was a past member of Lonaconing First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald Whittington, and wife, Barbara Ann, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Steve Whittington, and wife, Debra L., Lonaconing; four grandchildren, Ronald Craig Whittington, and wife, Robin, Keith Robert Whittington, Sarah Blake Whittington, and James Steven Whittington; two great-grandchildren, Justin Mario Whittington, and Ryan Craig Whittington; one brother, William Fazenbaker, Lonaconing. She has a lot of friends and neighbors, special friends, Catherine Pendlebury and Isabel Winters.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Sunday, July 5, 1998, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, 1998, 1 p.m. at Bethel Holiness Church, with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
MARY E. WHITTINGTON
CUMBERLAND - Mary Elizabeth Whittington, 99, of Cumberland, died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born Nov. 17, 1898, in Rawlings, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Wesley and Mary Susan (Baker) Huff. She also was preceded in death by three husbands, Carl Perry Blaker, Thomas Granigan and Harry Whittington; one son, Ronald Perry Blaker; and one son-in-law, James Durr.
Mrs. Whittington was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Rebecca Lodge.
Surviving are one son, John Warren Blaker and wife Nellie, Clarksville, Tenn.; two daughters, Elizabeth Jane Durr, Cumberland, and Shirley Lea Scott and husband Ralph, Fayetteville, N.C.; one stepson, Dr. Oliver Blaker, Towson; one stepdaughter, Frances Walston, Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark D. Peterson officiating.
Interment will be in the Rose Hill cemetery, Cumberland.
MARY C. WIEBRECHT
FROSTBURG - Mary C. Wiebrecht, 87, of Frostburg, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since 1991.
Born April 10, 1910, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late Sampson and Viola (Willison) Muir. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wiebrecht; and son-in-law, James Alderton.
She and her husband owned and operated the L&W; Esso in Frostburg, and later she worked at the J&J; People's Drug Store.
Mrs. Wiebrecht was a life member of the First English Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer for many years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Virginia Alderton, Frostburg, and Barbara Chasteen, Pollock Pines, Calif.; five grandchildren, Beverly Green and husband Gary, Frostburg, Bruce Alderton and wife Debbie, LaVale, Brian Alderton, Frostburg, Gretchen Cook and husband Mark, Santa Cruz, Calif., and Janette Huston and husband Brad, Sacramento, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren, Vincent Green, Sierra Green, Brandon Alderton and Rachel Alderton.
Friends will be received at the First English Baptist Church, 136 E. Main St., Frostburg, on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Services will be conducted at the church Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Sandvick officiating.
Interment will be in the Eckhart cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Alderton, Brian Alderton, Beverly Green, Gary Green, Jeff Blank and Donald Blank.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First English Baptist Church or the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

FROSTBURG - Mary C. Wiebrecht, 87, of Frostburg, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Friends will be received at the First English Baptist Church, 136 East Main Street, Frostburg, on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Services will be conducted at the church Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Sandvick officiating.
Interment will be in the Eckhart cemetery.

CUMBERLAND - Charles Edgar Widdows Jr., 61, of Cumberland, died Sunday, March 22, 1998, at his home.
Born Oct. 23, 1936, in Cumberland, he was the son of Charles Edgar Widdows Sr., of St. George, Utah, and Cleo Kathryn (Miller) Rice, of Cumberland.
Mr. Widdows formerly worked at the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co., and the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He also served in the Bowling Green Fire Department.
Surviving are a wife, Shirley Ann (Poling) Widdows, Cumberland; four sons, Bruce Widdows and wife Donna, Cumberland, Douglas Widdows Sr. and wife Judy, Cumberland; Jeffrey Widdows, Cumberland, and Brian Widdows, Cumberland; two brothers, John E. Rice and Gary James Rice, both of Cumberland; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
There will be a Christian Wake at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department.
