CLARENCE W. "JACK" PAINTER SR.
CUMBERLAND - Clarence W. "Jack" Painter Sr., 86, of 115 Columbia St., Cumberland, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 18, 1912, in Cumberland, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Painter and two sons, George David and Clarence W. "Bill" Painter Jr.; and one brother, John Painter.
He is survived by one son, James E. Painter I, Cumberland; two daughters, Roberta S. "Bobbie" Shipway, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mary Ann Patton, Jasper, Tenn.; a brother, Robert Painter, Cumberland; eight grandchildren, Mike, Todd, Steve, Kevin Barmoy, Debbie Lechleztner, Tommy Bishop, James E. Painter II; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Painter was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. He was past president of Men of LaSalle. He was also a member of I.B.E.W. Local 870 and the American Legion Fort Cumberland Post #13.
Friends will be received at Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, on Thursday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m., by the Rev. Stephen Yelovich.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

C. JOSEPH PALETTA
FROSTBURG - C. Joseph Paletta, 57, of 185 Ormand St., Frostburg, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at his residence.
Born April 6, 1941, in Frostburg, he was the son of Vienna (Sacco) Paletta and the late Charles Paletta.
Mr. Paletta was employed at the Allegany County Tax Office.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus #1442, Frostburg; the Loyal Order of Moose #348, Frostburg, and currently was the Secretary and Past Exalted Ruler of the Fraternal Order of Elks Lodge #470, Frostburg.
Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Bertha (Skidmore) Paletta; his mother, Vienna Paletta, Frostburg; two sisters, Mary C. Paletta, Frostburg, and Suzanne Himmler and husband, Charles, Frostburg; two nephews, James Anthony Himmler and Brian Joseph Himmler, both of Frostburg; brother-in-law, Lawrence "Buckwheat" Skidmore and wife, Hilda, Corriganville; and very special friends, James and Janice Vought and family, Tommy Skidmore and Jack Dishong.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Frostburg Elks will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody as Celebrant.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jack Dishong, James Anthony Himmler, Brian Joseph Himmler, Albert Miller, John Meyer and James Vought. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Davis, Richard Dunn, Gary Taylor and Joseph Gaudio.
Mr. Paletta was a founding member of the Elks Derby Day Contest, and the family request memorials be directed to the Elks Derby Day Contest, c/o First United National Bank, Frostburg, MD 21532.
E. JUNE PALMER
LAVALE - E. June Palmer, 69, of 12711 Gramlich Road, S.W., LaVale, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Sept. 7, 1928, in Reynoldsville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry Lindy and the late Ida (Brocious) Lindy.
Surviving are a husband of 49 years, Donald Eugene Palmer, LaVale; two sons, Dennis Palmer, and wife, Cindy, Richfield, Ohio, and David Palmer, and wife, Lisa, LaVale; three daughters, Carol Wilt, and husband, Butch, Boonesboro, Debbie Garlitz, and husband, Arnold, Avilton, and Denise Almond, and husband, Chris, LaVale; two sisters, Betty Smee, Reynoldsville, and Margaret Garthwaite, Reynoldsville; three brothers, William Lindy, Harry Lindy, and James Lindy, all of Reynoldsville; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Redus, and husband, Will, Jacob Garlitz, Michael Palmer and Kayla Palmer.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Bernadette M. Ross officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

LIUDMILLA KOVALENKO PALUMBO
AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Liudmilla Kovalenko Palumbo, 81, wife of Mr. Frank Palumbo of 2912 Myrtle Ave., Augusta, entered into rest on Saturday, March 21, 1998, in St. Joseph's Hospital following a long illness.
Memorial services were held Monday, March 23, 1998, at 7 p.m. from Elliott Sons Lumpkin Road Chapel, Augusta. Interment will be later in Veterans cemetery, Rocky Gap, Cumberland, Md.
Mrs. Palumbo was born in China of Russian parents, but was raised in Europe. She was a successful dress designer and a seamstress with her own business in Germany. She settled in the Augusta area 44 years ago with her husband, where she pursued her artistic talents. An exhibition of her paintings was held at the Augusta Women's Club in the '60s.
Survivors include, her husband, Frank Palumbo; one son, Frank Palumbo Jr.; one daughter, Carol Brown; two granddaughters; one grandson; one sister, Jennie Romine; three nephews; five great-nieces; and four great-nephews. She will be missed by many loving friends.

KARL E. PAPE
ECKHART - Karl E. Pape, 58, of Eckhart, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Born June 11, 1939, in Eckhart, he was the son of the late William and May (Brode) Pape. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores Smith and JoAnn Pape.
He was employed at Kaiser Refractories, Kelly Springfield Tire Company, and was caretaker for Beulah Kruson. Mr. Pape was a member of Eckhart United Methodist Church. He had been in the National Guard, Company D, 115th Infantry, 29th Division.
Surviving are, two sisters, Mildred Brinkman, Frostburg, and Patricia Speir and husband, James, Loartown; nieces and nephews, Julie Smearman, Brian, Tammy and Kevin Speir; great-nieces and nephews, Travis, Joshua and Morgan Smearman, Dakota and Katrina Speir; sister, Betty Davis, Frostburg; a brother, Richard Pape, Finzel; and sister, Janice Boch, Cresaptown; and other nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating. Interment will be in Eckhart cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Brian Speir, Kevin Speir, Jeff Smearman, Todd Logsdon, Steven Yates and David Smith.

MARGARET L. PARK
CUMBERLAND - Margaret L. (McKee) Park, 91, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Center, Frostburg.
Born Oct. 19, 1906, in Kirby, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William T. and Alberta F. (Hott) McKee. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle B. Park, on March 18, 1980; one son, Ronnie W. Park, twin of Bonnie L. Park Phillips; one daughter, LaVelda Park; three brothers; and two sisters.
Mrs. Park was a homemaker and a member of Emmanuel Bethel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Lyle Park and wife Juanita, Julian D. Park and Patricia, and Gene D. Park and wife Roseanna, all of Cumberland; two daughters, Linda V. Deremer and husband John, Pleasant Valley Road, Flintstone, Bonnie Phillips and fiance Carl Houdersheldt, Cumberland; one sister, Wilda Whitacre, Nashville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in the Asbury cemetery, Baker, W.Va.
DR. ROBERT H. PARKER
GAITHERSBURG - Dr. Robert H. Parker, 86, died on Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, at the Wilson Health Care Center, Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg.
Dr. Parker was born March 17, 1912, in Cumberland.
In 1937 he married
Meredith Snowden, who is now deceased.
He is survived by two daughters, Sylvia M. Bowles, Wilmington, N.C., and Sharon L. Mitchell, Warwick; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wilbur R. Parker.
After the death of Meredith, Dr. Parker married
Eloise B. Ensor, now residing at Copper Ridge in Sykesville.
Dr. Parker was a graduate of American University and Drew Theological Seminary. The honorary degree, Doctor of Divinity, was granted to him by Western Maryland College in 1953, and American University confirmed the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters on him in June 1962, as did Wesley College in 1985.
Dr. Parker served churches in Cumberland before becoming pastor of the Northwood-Appold Methodist Church in Baltimore, a post he held for 14 years. He then served as superintendent of the Baltimore South District of his church until 1960 when he became president of Wesley College in Dover, Del., where new buildings and a dramatic growth in faculty, student body, gifts and endowments resulted from his leadership. In 1975 he retired from the ministry of the Baltimore Conference of the United Methodist Church, and moved to Asbury Village where he became director of development. He retired in 1983.
Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Burial Park, Cumberland, on Tuesday, September 22, 1998, at 3 p.m.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. in Parker Hall at the Apartment Center of Asbury Methodist Village.
