VIVIAN C. MCGREEVY
BRYANS ROAD - Mrs. Vivian C. McGreevy, 66, of 6849 Mathews Road, Bryans Road, died Wednesday evening, Aug. 19, 1998, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata, of a stroke and heart attack. Mrs. McGreevy lived at 907 Beechfield Ave., Baltimore, for the past 30 years and had only recently moved to Bryans Road.
Mrs. McGreevy was the wife of the late Donald J. McGreevy, formerly of Cumberland, to whom she had been married
for 24 years.
Born Nov. 25, 1931, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Leota Robinette Nies of 1 South Terrace, Cumberland. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1951.
Mrs. McGreevy was employed with Rosenbaums while living in Cumberland. She retired in 1995 from the Department of Housing and Community Development in Crownsville where she was the Fiscal Associate from July 1987 through October 1995. She received the "Courtesy Counts" Award from the Department of Housing and Community Development for her exemplary helpfulness, cheerfulness, respect and courtesy to others in 1993, and the Governor's Citation for recognition of outstanding service to the Department in 1995.
Mrs. McGreevy was an avid chess player and was a member of the Maryland Chess Association and the U.S. Chess Federation.
Mrs. McGreevy was a member of the Embroiderers' Guild of America Inc., and belonged to Constellation Chapter. She enjoyed sharing her love of Cross-stitching and Hardanger with her family and friends, and produced many showcase quality pieces of work.
Vivian is survived by two brothers, Donald Joseph Nies and wife, Virginia, of Cheyenne, Wyo., Paul Edwin Nies and wife, Patricia, of Bossier City, La.; two sisters, Barbara Nies, Cumberland, and Colleen (Nies) Garrett and husband Dan R., Woodsboro; five step-children, Alice Rita Exler and husband, Morris, Altoona, Pa., Donald J. McGreevy Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa., Marie A. VerValen, III, Pittsburgh, Kathy Pickett and husband Timothy, Orlando, Fla., and Bonita J. Santos, Bryans Road; special grandchild, Katie Donaldson and husband, Sean, Bryans Road; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McGreevy will be at the Howard H. Hubbard Funeral Home Inc., 4107 Wilkens Ave., Baltimore, MD 21229. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and again at 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23. A Wake Service will be held at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Victory Church, 4414 Wilkens Ave., Baltimore, at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, 1998.
SARA MCGREGOR
FROSTBURG - Sara (Lamison) McGregor, 82, of East Main Street, Frostburg, where she had resided with her grandson Michael Murphy, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 3, 1916, in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Trella (Miller) Lamison. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Hartley McGregor; and one daughter, Gilleen McGregor.
Mrs. McGregor was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Cumberland.
Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Murphy and husband Paul, Frostburg; one son, Stanley "Jake" McGregor and wife Doris, Johnstown; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Laura DeMarco, Nashville, Tenn., Mary Fogle, Windber, Pa., and Barbara Currie, New Castle, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Friends also will be received at the Arbutus Church of the Brethren, Johnstown, on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Arbutus Church of the Brethren on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Daren Ritchey and the Rev. Barron Deffenbaugh officiating.
Interment will be in the Richland cemetery, Johnstown.

JOHN E. MCGUIRE SR.
CUMBERLAND - John Eugene McGuire Sr., 50, of 13523 Bristol Drive, S.W., Cumberland, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 19, 1947, in Cumberland, he was the son of Reba Jeanette (Twigg) McGuire, Cumberland, and the late John P. "Jack" McGuire.
Mr. McGuire was a cook in the dietary department of Sacred Heart Hospital. He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and the Cresaptown F.O.E. Lodge #2883, Cresaptown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are three sons, John Eugene McGuire Jr., Cumberland, Joseph Edward McGuire, LaVale, and Jeremy Eric McGuire, LaVale; a sister, Linda Lee Moore, and husband, Edwin, Chesnee, S.C.; a brother, Timothy Linn McGuire, Cumberland; and a grandmother, Magdalene (Lodgson) Twigg, Romney, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles A. Erzkus officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
MARIA N. MCGUIRE
Maria Nerina (Della Rocca) McGuire, 73, of Frostburg Village Nursing Home, left this world on Wednesday March 11, to be with our Celestial Father.
Maria was born on March 2, 1925 in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Italy. She was the daughter of the late Oreste and Emma (Caroselli) Della Rocca. She was also preceded in the Journey by her husband James Joseph McGuire of Frostburg, Md., her daughter Emma Maria and her three brothers, Roberto and Antonio Della Rocca of Caserta, Italy and Gaetano (Nino) Della Rocca of Baltimore, Md.
Maria originally came to Frostburg in 1946 as a war bride and lived in the area until her husband passed away in 1963. She then relocated with her children to Italy where she lived until her return to the States in 1978.
Maria had a deep and very special devotion to the Blessed Mother and Padre Pio, and recited the Holy Rosary daily.
Family, singing and cooking were her passions. Gifted with a keen sense of humor, she took delight in entertaining family and friends.
As an exemplary Mother and a special friend to many, she will be sadly missed but always remembered with great love and affection.
Surviving are her daughters MaryAnn, Michele and Patricia (Tricia) of Cumberland, Md., her son Roberto and his wife Teresa of Lesotho, South Africa, her grandson Jimmy of Stockholm, Sweden, her brother Ferdinando of Caserta, Italy, sisters-in-law Phyllis of Baltimore, Md., Anna and Marilisa of Caserta, Italy, her nieces and nephews Doreen Ercolano of Baltimore, Md. and Elena, Roberto, Sabrina, Stefania, Oreste and Roberto of Caserta, Itlay.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main Street in Frostburg on Friday, March 13, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Reginald Russo, O.F.M., Cap., and Father William Moody at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Frostburg on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Michael's cemetery in Frostburg.
Pallbearers will be Joseph DeMarino, Gene Pratt, Francis Pifalo, Vincent Costello, Anthony DiMaio and her son, Roberto.
JEANNETTE M. MCHUGH
LONACONING - Jeannette Muir (Bradburn) McHugh, 91, of the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, at the nursing home.
Mrs. McHugh was admitted to the nursing home on Feb. 10, 1992. She was the first patient when they opened the new section of the nursing home.
Born Sept. 24, 1906, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late John I. Bradburn and Lydia (Martin) Bradburn. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Isaac Bradburn and John E. Bradburn; and one sister, Emma B. Wilkes.
Mrs. McHugh was retired from George Ternent Sons Stores, Lonaconing, where she was employed from 1938 to 1977. She was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1925, and the State Normal School, now Frostburg State University, Class of 1927. She taught in Frederick County for seven years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lonaconing since 1924; Morning Star Temple 1, Pythian Sisters, Lonaconing; and the Georges Creek Senior Citizens.
Surviving is one sister, Sara M. Schramm, Lonaconing.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Friday, June 26, 1998, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing, Saturday, June 27, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Frostburg Memorial Park.
Morning Star Temple 1, Pythian Sisters, will hold a memorial service Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
THOMAS P. MCHUGH
CUMBERLAND - Thomas Patrick McHugh, 77, of Potomac Street, Cumberland, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 25, 1920, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was the son of the late John B. and Margaretta P. (Haley) McHugh. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Gertrude Leasure.
Mr. McHugh was retired from the Celanese Corporation, Cumberland, after 46 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Cumberland Outdoor Club, Cumberland American Legion Post #13, and Mount Savage V.F.W. Post #6025.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy H. (Hess) McHugh; one daughter, Bonnie Duncan, and husband, John, Cumberland; one brother, John G. McHugh, and wife, Sherry, Nokomes, Fla.; one granddaughter, Kristi Ann Duncan; and one great-granddaughter, Lilly Ann Duncan.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the funeral home on Monday at noon with Father Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
