LOUIS HERMAN MCCOY
CUMBERLAND - Louis Herman McCoy, 79, of 319 Beall St., Cumberland, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born April 30, 1919, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Albert M. McCoy and the late Elizabeth (Murphy) McCoy.
Mr. McCoy was chef at the Ali Ghan Shrine and Country Club, the Fort Cumberland Hotel and John Rokisky in Keyser, W.Va. He was a member of 9451 VFW, Oldtown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II.
Surviving are two sisters, Minnie Dibert, Cumberland, and Alma M. Kisamore, Cumberland; a brother, Clifford McCoy, Cumberland; two nieces, Glory Bee Costa, St. Michaels, and Barbara Ann Barb, Cumberland; two nephews, William W. Dibert, Panama City, Fla., and Gary M. Kisamore, Slanesville, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m.
A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
His cremated remains will be interred at Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
ELLA JEAN MCCUTCHEON
BARTON- Ella Jean (Gowans) McCutcheon, 81, of 19415 Walnut Hill Road, Barton, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
It is indeed sad that we have lost mother: a loved and loving daughter, a cherished sister, a caring wife, a treasured friend, a devoted and loving grandmother, a deeply loved and adored mother.
Born Oct. 20, 1917, in Barton, she was the daughter of the late David and Bessie Gowans. Jean also was preceded in death by her husband Ray, in 1976, and by her brother Jimmy Gowans, in 1977.
She worked at the Celanese during her early years and then once she and Ray started their family, she became a full-time homemaker and community helper. Jean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Barton, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Jean is survived by her loving son, Ray McCutcheon, Barton, and her loving daughter, Martha Tigner, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was blessed with a wonderful grandson, John Ray McCutcheon, Loartown, who loves his grandmother dearly. Her brother David Gowans, and his wife Iona, have also been by her side these many years. They reside in Lanse, Pa. Jean's years have been made even more memorable with the love of her niece Helen Duran of Arlington, Va., and her nephew, Harold Gowans, and his family of Grafton, W.Va. She also is survived by her aunt Margaret, her brother Ross Gowans, Saganau, Mich., and other nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will be in the Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.
RUTH A. MCDANIEL
CUMBERLAND - Ruth A. McDaniel, 92, of Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of Williamsport, Pa., died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Aug. 20, 1905, in Salladasburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Urban Otto Good and Bertha Jane Eckelburger Good. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harry S. McDaniel, in 1947; and two brothers.
Mrs. McDaniel was the office manager for McDaniel's Dairy and Dairy Store, Williamsport, Pa. Later she was the wholesale manager for Susquehanna Valley Dairy, Williamsport.
Mrs. McDaniel was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Williamsport, where she was active in the Sunday School and was a member of the church choir. She also was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church, Cumberland. Mrs. McDaniel was a member of the Williamsport Music Club and The Williamsport Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are one son, the Rev. Lee A. McDaniel, and wife, Maude, Cumberland; one daughter, Carol M. Calehuff, and husband, Girard, Rochester, Mich.; one brother, Charles E. Good, Elmira, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Linda Nordenburg, and husband, Mark, Chicago, Ill., Kathy Wurdeman, and husband, John, Richmond, Va., Heather Calehuff, Richmond; Phyllis Palmer, and husband, Mic, Las Vegas, Nev., Amy Ward, and husband, Calvin, Rochester, Mich., Carol Adoum, and husband, Djime, Gaithersburg, Keith F. McDaniel, and wife, Linda, Chicago, Ellen McDaniel-Weissler, and husband, Richard, Hedgesville, W.Va.; and eight great-grandchildren, Xiao and Teke Palmer, Tucker and Luke Ward, Zane and Sophia Adoum, Lianna and Adelle McDaniel.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and at the Maneval Funeral Home, Williamsport, Pa., on Tuesday from 12 to 1 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Maneval Funeral Home, Williamsport, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Theodore Cockley officiating.
Interment will be in the Montoursville cemetery, Montoursville, Pa.
GEORGE F. MCDERMOTT
CUMBERLAND - George Francis McDermott, 92, of 604 Frederick St., Cumberland, died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 7, 1906, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George W. McDermott and Matilda Ann (Heintz) McDermott. He also was preceded in death by one son, George Bernard McDermott.
Mr. McDermott worked as a storekeeper with the B&O; Railroad with 51 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was Past Grand Knight; Ancient Order of Hibernians; and Cumberland Eagles Aerie 245. He served as Altar Boy, Lector and Cantor in the Catholic Church for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Jean (Mitchell) McDermott; two sons, Francis Michael McDermott and wife Donna, Lexington, Ky., and Kevin Patrick McDermott, Glen Burnie; one daughter, Rachel McDermott Finan and husband Michael, Glen Burnie; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McDermott was the last surviving of 21 children.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian Wake will be held at the funeral home Friday 8 p.m.
A Celebration of Mr. McDermott's Life will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Saturday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan officiating.
Interment will be in the SS. Peter and Paul cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
EVELYN R. McDONALD
CUMBERLAND - Evelyn R. (Wolford) McDonald, 77, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born in Capon Bridge, W.Va., on Sept. 1, 1920, she was the daughter of the late William B. and Ethyl (Sine) Wolford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Melvin D. McDonald, who died in 1986. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Gary Wolford, Larry Wolford and Virlis Wolford.
A homemaker, Mrs. McDonald was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the McKinley Chapter #12 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one daughter, Sonya Morse, Baltimore; four sisters, Shirley Shanholtz, Bayonet Point, Fla., Patricia Patterson, Winchester, Va., Kay Sirbaugh, Capon Bridge, W.Va., and Bonnie Brill, Capon Springs, W.Va.; four brothers, Brown Wolford, Blaine Wolford, Donald Wolford and Reggie Wolford, all of Capon Bridge. She also is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James L. McMahan officiating. The McKinley Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, will conduct their memorial service on Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Glen Sirbaugh, Todd Brill, Darren Brill, Anthony Wolford, Scott Kenney and William Grace.
BLANCHE M. MCDOWELL
WESTERNPORT - Blanche Marie McDowell, 72, of the Moran Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Riordan Road, Westernport, died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born March 17, 1926, at Fairview, near New Germany, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Lucinda (Broadwater) Wilt.
Mrs. McDowell was a homemaker. She was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are two sons, Warren McDowell and Roland McDowell, and one daughter, Pam Genco, all of Baltimore; two brothers, Virgil Wilt, Rawlings, and Marshall Wilt, Swanton; two sisters, Althea Wilt, Jennings, and Bertha Russell, Barton; and one grandson, Jimmy Genco, Baltimore.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Dallas Bunch.
Interment will be in the Philos cemetery.
WILLIAM J. MCELVIE SR.
LONACONING - William J. McElvie Sr., 64, of 19 Front St., Lonaconing, died Wednesday, June 17, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Sept. 17, 1933, at Lonaconing, he was a son of Nina (Shillingburg) McElvie, of Lonaconing, and the late James G. McElvie. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Jean (Chappell) McElvie.
Mr. McElvie was a retired school teacher having taught at Flintstone High School for one year, Westmar Middle School, where he taught social studies and Westmar High School, where he taught psychology and social studies for 29 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Barton United Methodist Church, Barton. He was a member of the Retired Teachers Association; Georges Creek Valley Lodge 161 AF & AM, Lonaconing; Outdoor Club, Cumberland; Moose Lodge, Cumberland; and Lonaconing Republican Club, Lonaconing.
Surviving are his wife, Alma R. (Cross) McElvie; two sons, William J. McElvie Jr. and wife Joyce, Lonaconing, and Robert L. McElvie and wife Beth, Lonaconing; one daughter, Lisa Jean Nicol and husband Richard, Lonaconing; three stepchildren, Arthur F. Shafferman, Lansing, Kan., Michael L. Shafferman, Pueblo, Colo., and Julie M. Fairbanks, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Nicole and Jeff McElvie, Christina and Lee McElvie, and Rickey, Shelley and Janaye Nicol; and eight step-grandchildren, Vanessa Ann Brant, Jennifer Shafferman, Jeff Shafferman, Michael Adam Shafferman, Mark Fairbanks, Timmy Fairbanks, Christy Fairbanks and Keysha Fairbanks.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Friday, June 19, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Barton United Methodist Church, Barton, Saturday at noon with the Rev. John Park and the Rev. William Hunt officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Pallbearers will be Lionel Baker, Bill Martin, Ray Miller, Harold Nicol, Hugh Atkinison and Ed Getson.
Georges Creek Valley Lodge 161 AF & AM will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m.
