DAVID L. MATTHEWS
WESTERNPORT - David L. "Ducky" Matthews, 62, of 232 Greene St., Westernport, died Friday, Feb. 27, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 7, 1935, in Moscow, he was the son of the late Edward and Hazel (Smith) Matthews. He also was preceded in death by four brothers; and one sister.
Mr. Matthews was retired from Westvaco with 32 years in Tech Service. He was a member of Luke Local 676 UPIU. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, and a member of the Stoney Run Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma (McKenzie) Matthews; one son, David A. Matthews, Westernport; one daughter, Barbara Moore, Luke; three sisters, Shirley Basye, Rawlings, Ruth Ann Wilson, Lonaconing, and Dorothy Mae McKenzie, Frostburg; two grandchildren, Jason Moore and Lee Ann Matthews, both of Westernport; and two great-grandchildren, Shawna Christine Moore and Christopher Jason David Moore.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday, March 1, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, March 2, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Morris officiating.
Interment will be in the Philos cemetery.
JOSEPH ELLSWORTH "HARPO" MATTHEWS
ECKHART MINES - Joseph Ellsworth "Harpo" Matthews, 64, of 17012 Neff St., S.W., Eckhart Mines, went home to be with the Lord, May 11, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland.
Born May 28, 1933, in Lonaconing, he was a son of the late James Matthews and Venona (Kirkwood) Matthews.
Mr. Matthews was a member of Eckhart United Methodist Church and the Piney Mountain Sportsmen's Gun Club.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, whom he married
June 17, 1972, Patricia Jane (Minnick) Matthews. Also surviving are one son, Melvin James Matthews, and wife, Patricia, Cumberland; and one daughter, Tonya Marie Matthews, McCoole; two brothers, Lindley "Stoney" Matthews, Baltimore, and Paul Matthews, and wife, Virginia, Lonaconing; two sisters, Tessieleen Skidmore, and friend, Richard Cutter, Lonaconing, and Mary Kinnaman, and husband, Richard, California; one grandson, Joseph Lawrence Matthews; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Matthews is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Bonnie Cole.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, Tuesday, May 12, 1998, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating. At Mr. Matthews' request, his body will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be mailed to Patricia Matthews, Box 101, Eckhart Mines, MD 21528; to the Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit in his name; or to the American Cancer Society.
DORA I. MATTINGLY
CUMBERLAND - Dora I. Mattingly, 91, of Cumberland, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 30, 1906, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Broder P. and Zella M. (Huff) Erichsen. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Bernard W. Stokes; her second husband, Michael J. Mattingly; two children, Lyles W. Stokes and Esther Anna Mae Abell; and one grandson, Regis D. Abell.
Mrs. Mattingly was a former employee of the Kelly Springfield Tire Co., Cumberland. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed socializing at the South Cumberland McDonald's Restaurant.
Surviving are one son, Bernard E. Stokes, Seattle, Wash.; one daughter, Phyllis "Marcie" Twigg, Cumberland; three stepsons, J. Joseph Mattingly, James T. Mattingly, and M. Richard Mattingly, all of Cumberland; one brother, Chester F. Erichsen, Cumberland; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Glenn F. Stevens Sr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Davis Memorial cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Allegany County Nursing Home Activities Fund.

MARGARET C. MAUGER
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Margaret C. (Wilt) Mauger, 75, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at her home.
Born on April 28, 1923, at Swanton, Md., she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Murphy) Wilt.
Surviving are her son, Edgar Mauger and wife, Sue, Jacksonville; a daughter, Jeanine Bisanti, Jacksonville; two granddaughters, Christine Romer and husband, Brad, Orlando, and Kimberly Mauger, Jacksonville; two brothers, Henry E. Wilt and wife, Maxine, Neptune Beach, and John E. Wilt and wife, Hollis, Savage River Road, Md.; two sisters, Pauline Eaton and husband, Robert, and Irene Howell, both of Savage River Road.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday, Oct. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Murphy cemetery, Dry Run, with the Rev. David Wilt and Dr. David Appleby officiating.
The family requests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
JAMES C. MAUK
MARGATE, Fla. - James Clark Mauk, 83, of Margate, formerly of LaVale, Md., died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, in Margate. He had been in ill health about four years.
Born Dec. 23, 1914, at Grantsville, he was the son of Samuel and Martha Rebecca (Barnett) Mauk, who both preceded him in death.
Mr. Mauk was raised in Corriganville, Md., and lived most of his life in LaVale.
Surviving are his present wife, Freda Mauk, Margate; three daughters, Katherine Klosterman and husband, David, Pompono Beach, Fla., Violet Blank and husband, Howard, LaVale, Darlene Taylor and husband Edward, LaVale; and one son, James F. Mauk and wife, Betty, East Berlin, Pa.; one sister, Vera Grahame, Cumberland; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Mauk's body was cremated and a memorial service will be held at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens at a later date to be announced.
RHODA M. MAUST
GRANTSVILLE - Rhoda M. Maust, 82, of 223 Peavine Road, Grantsville, died Sunday, May 3, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 18, 1915, in Garrett County, she was a daughter of the late Jonas B. and Barbara (Swartzentruber) Miller. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer L. Maust.
Mrs. Maust was a retired licensed practical nurse at the Goodwill Mennonite Nursing Home. She was a member of the Oak Dale Mennonite Church, former president of the Helping Hands Sewing Group and representative of the Women's Service.
Surviving are three sons, Oscar Maust, Millmont, Pa., Edgar Maust, Baltimore, and Arthur Maust, North Jackson, Ohio; four daughters, Louise Maust, Cumberland, Leona Maust, Grantsville, Norma Stewart, Indianapolis, Ind., and Kathryn Beals, Grantsville; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Oak Dale Mennonite Church, Salisbury, Pa., Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Byler officiating.
Interment will be in the Oak Dale Church cemetery.
The body will be taken to the church at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
