Elizabeth M. Grimes
MADISON, N.J. - Elizabeth Merrell Grimes, 90, of Madison, died Friday, June 6, 1997 at King James Care Center after a long illness.
Born Feb. 7, 1907, in Centerville, Md. , she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Byron J. Grimes.
She was raised in Centerville, and later lived in Eastern Shore and Hagerstown.
She held a degree in humanities from Wilson College in Pennsylvania, and a masters degree from Columbia University.
She taught for many years at the high school in Glen Ridge, N.J.
She was an active member of the American Association of University Women in Madison, a member of the Thursday Morning Group and The Friends of the Madison Public Library.
She is survived by a nephew Byron J. Grimes, of Richmond and his family of four children.
Services will be private with a committal service in Light Street, Pa.
Arrangements are by William A. Bradley & Son, 345 Main St., Chatham, N.J.
Mary A. Wilson
Mary Alice Wilson, 91, of 1738 Edgewood Hills Circle, Hagerstown, died Friday, June 6, 1997, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.
She also is survived by a brother Ben F. Mowry of Worthington, Ohio.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown.
Harrison Warfield
Harrison Warfield, 88, of 200 B Taylor Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, June 5, 1997, at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born March 14, 1909, in Laytonville, Md., he was the son of the late George and Elsie Johnson Warfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie L. Warfield, in 1981.
He had resided in the Washington, D.C., area and was a self-employed chauffeur.
He was active in the Methodist church.
He is survived by one sister, Elsie W. Bushrod of Washington, D.C.; nieces, nephew and cousins.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Leroy Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
There will be no visitation.
Elwood B. Fitzgerald Sr.
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Elwood Boyd Fitzgerald Sr., 79, of 24 Landis Ave., died Saturday, June 7, 1997, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro.
Born Jan. 17, 1918, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Eustace Boyd and Eva Mary Shoemaker Fitzgerald. He lived his early life in Hagerstown and Vesuvius, Va.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel E. Haines Fitzgerald, in 1956; and his second wife, Thelma L. Haynes Fitzgerald, in 1993.
He was a 1935 graduate of Fairfield High School, Fairfield, Va.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft Republic in Hagerstown as an expediter in the material control section. He retired in 1978 after 37 years combined service.
He served during World War II in the European Theater with the 9th Air Force, 397th Bomb Group, 596th Squadron. He was a first lieutenant with the Pennsylvania National Guard, Co. D 104th Armored Cavalry.
He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren Church, Waynesboro.
He was a member of 397th Bomb Group Association; B-26 Historical Society and International Archives at the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio; Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, Pa.; Model Train Club, Waynecastle, Pa.; and was past president of the former Wayne Heights Civic Association.
He is survived by one daughter, Sue Ellen Robson of Mont Alto, Pa.; two sons, E. Boyd Fitzgerald of Southgate, Mich., and John David Fitzgerald of Chambersburg, Pa.; one sister, Patricia Rose Wilson of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Wilber L. Sites will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m.

Charles W. Harp
TRENTON, N.J. - Charles W. Harp, 91, of 2731 Princeton Pike and formerly of Wolfsville, Md., died Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at Mercer Medical Center, Trenton.
Born in Wolfsville, he was the son of the late Charles and Willie Lance Harp.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Warren Harp, in 1986.
He was a retired professor of Trenton State College.
He is survived by one stepson, Warren Ferguson of Morrisville, Pa.; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and six cousins.
Graveside services were held Saturday, June 7, at Smithsburg Cemetery. The Rev. David M. Buchenroth officiated.
Services were by Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
Paul E. Bless
BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Paul E. Bless, 72, of Bethel Township, Delaware County, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media, Pa., of heart failure.
Born in South Londonderry, Dauphin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles S. Bless and Bertha Eshelman Bless.
He worked for Rawleigh Products Co. for the past 50 years - 25 years full time and 25 years part time. For the last four years, he has worked for Watkins System Inc. as a repair parts truck driver. Prior to that, he worked seven years in the maintenance department at Garnet Valley High School.
He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army. He received the Purple Heart for being wounded in action in the European Theater.
While living in Hagerstown, he was president of Leitersburg Fire Co. and president of Ruritan Service Club. He also was a long time Sunday school teacher at Otterbein United Brethren Church, Waynesboro, Pa.
He was a member of Elam United Methodist Church for the past 25 years.
He enjoyed gardening and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Emma G. Foust Bless; three daughters, Cheryl J. Dunford of Wilmington, Del., Deborah K. Milos of Dayton, Ohio, and Cathy D. Messinger of Aston, Pa.; three sons, Donald L. Foust of Hagerstown, Carl R. Bless of Cochranville, Pa., and David M. Bless of Oviedo, Fla.; one sister, Mary Caufman of Chambersburg, Pa.; one brother, Charles E. Bless of Chambersburg; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Delores Bless; and one brother, Edward E. Bless.
Services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Elam United Methodist Church, 1073 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills, Pa. Burial will be in Elam Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Endowment Fund of Elam United Methodist Church, 1073 Smithbridge Road, Glen Mills, Pa. 19342.

Max T. Fraker
FORT LITTLETON, Pa. - Max T. "Dutch" Fraker, 91, of P.O. Box 24, died Saturday, June 7, 1997, in Fort Littleton as a result of an automobile accident.
Born July 28, 1905, in his present home in Fort Littleton, he was the son of the late George C. and Alice Eby Orth Fraker.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia L. Miller Fraker, in 1987.
He was a woodsman in his early life. He then worked for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. In later years, he worked for Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, where he retired in 1967.
He was a member of the former Fort Littleton United Methodist Church.
He was a former catcher for the McConnellsburg and Fort Littleton baseball teams from 1925 to 1940s. He was a Republican committeeman for a number of years.
He was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by one daughter, Cindy Cline of Waterfall, Pa.; one son, Max T. "Ted" Fraker II of Atglen, Pa.; one brother, Richard Fraker of Saltillo, Pa.; and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith M. Fraker; an infant son, Jeffrey Galen Fraker; three sisters; and three brothers.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. David Arnold will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Littleton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral home will be open Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Judith M. Fraker
FORT LITTLETON, Pa. - Judith M. Fraker, 54, of P.O. Box 24, died Saturday, June 7, 1997, in Fort Littleton as a result of an automobile accident.
Born Sept. 7, 1942, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Max T. "Dutch" and Sylvia L. Miller Fraker.
She was a 1960 graduate of Forbes Road High School, where she served as senior class president and editor of the yearbook.
She was employed as a clerk-typist by McConnellsburg Office of Pennsylvania State Health Department for 37 years.
She was a member of the former Fort Littleton United Methodist Church.
She was an avid gardener.
She is survived by one sister, Cindy Cline of Waterfall, Pa.; one brother, Max T. "Ted" Fraker II of Atglen, Pa.; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jeffrey Galen Fraker.

Edward R. Snyder
HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - Edward R. "Sparky" Snyder, 70, of Hustontown, died Saturday, June 7, 1997, at Conemaugh Valley Hospital, Johnstown, Pa.
Born July 2, 1926, in Springfield Township, Huntingdon County, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence and Sarah Hershey Snyder.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Hustontown Senior Citizens Center.
He is survived by four sisters, Rozena M. Duvall of Chambersburg, Pa., Violet L. Snyder and Ruth A. Hedge, both of Hustontown, Pa., and Betty J. Hollinshead of Harrisonville, Pa.; and three brothers, Elwood C. Snyder and Walter L. Snyder, both of Hustontown, and Vaughn M. Snyder of Harrisonville.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Snyder and Goldie Hedge; and one brother, Calvin Snyder.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown. The Rev. Christian Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday two hours prior to the service.
