TANA P. LINKOUS
ROANOKE, Va. - Tana Powell Linkous, 39, of Roanoke, and formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Wednesday, May 20, 1998.
Mrs. Linkous was a member of the South Roanoke United Methodist Church. She was a 1980 graduate of the University of West Virginia and started the first epilepsy support group in Roanoke.
Surviving are her husband, Dicky Linkous, and a son, Drew Linkous, both of Roanoke; her parents, Lear and Maxine Powell, Kernersville, N.C.; a brother, David Powell, Banner Elk, N.C.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Ruby Linkous, Roanoke; a brother-in-law, Robert Linkous, Boston, Mass.; and five sisters-in-law, Joan McClellan, Richmond, Ruth Linkous, Fairfax, Leigh Anne Nordt, Roanoke, Vickie Linkous and Cynthia Linkous, both of Newport News.
Friends may call Friday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, where the family will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the South Roanoke United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Saturday with Dr. Donald H. Roberts and Dr. John Wesley Newman officiating. Committal will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the South Roanoke United Methodist Church, 2330 S. Jefferson St., Roanoke, VA 24014 or the Epilepsy Association of Virginia, Highlands Center Branch, UVA Health Science Center, Charlottesville, VA 22908.
LAVETA I. LINKSWILER
WESTERNPORT - LaVeta Irene Linkswiler, 79, of 109 Lynn St., Westernport, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Sumner Regional Medical Center, Wellington, Kan., while visiting her sister.
Born Feb. 22, 1919, in Caldwell, Kan., she was the daughter of the late John and Blanche (Tanner) Patton. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Linkswiler, in 1992.
Mrs. Linkswiler was a former employee of Lad and Lassie Clothing Store, Piedmont, W.Va. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, where she was active in the United Methodist Women's Society having served as president and vice president and was currently its treasurer; member of the Jenny K. Nesbit Circle where she was chairperson for the past 25 years; a Sunday School teacher for more than 50 years with the Susannah Wesley Bible Class; Sunday School treasurer; and member of the Altar Committee, and helped with the soup kitchens. She also was a Brownie troop leader.
Surviving are two daughters, Kay Vaughan and husband David, Keyser, W.Va., and Cindy Dunk and husband Jim, Jefferson; two brothers, John Patton, Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Charles Patton, Long Beach, Calif.; one sister, Idotha Cottle, South Haven, Kan.; and seven grandchildren, Kim and Chrissy Vaughan, Elizabeth, Joshua, Rebecca, Caleb and Alicia Dunk.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Jarrett officiating.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont.
WILLIAM E. LINNENBROGGER
CUMBERLAND - William Ellsworth Linnenbrogger, 84, of Cumberland, died Saturday, July 11, 1998, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 5, 1913, in Eckhart, he was the son of the late William C. and Eva (Porter) Linnenbrogger.
Mr. Linnenbrogger was a retired employee of Welsh's Florist in LaVale. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are his wife, Garnett E. (Dreyer) Linnenbrogger; three daughters, Marsha Pryor and husband Roy, Cumberland, Donna Haines Hunt and husband Robert, Mount Savage, Joyce Bennett and husband Stephen, Knob Road, Cumberland; two brothers, George Linnenbrogger and wife Peg, Rawlings, and Thomas Linnenbrogger and wife Alice, LaVale; three sisters, Dorothy Linnenbrogger and Judith Linnenbrogger, both of Cumberland, and Jean Wade, Summerville, S.C.; two grandchildren, Pamela Hunt Hartman and Duane Hunt; and one great-grandson, Dustin Hartman.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. John J. Duffus.
Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
HELEN V. LINTHICUM
FLINTSTONE - Helen Virginia Linthicum, 83, of Flintstone, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, in the Cumberland Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 29, 1914, at the mineral spring farm of her grandparents, Julia and Jacob Bender. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Mayo Linthicum and Adeline Bender Linthicum.
She graduated from Frederick High School in 1932. She graduated from Hood College in 1936 with a B.A. degree. She returned to Hood College to take special post-graduate work. She received a master's degree in Education from the University of Maryland in August 1955. She took various post-graduate work beyond the master's degree from the University of Maryland, Frostburg State University, Bucknell University and Western Maryland College.
She was a member of Allegany County Retired Teachers, Maryland State Retired Teachers, the National Council of Teachers of English, Flintstone United Methodist Church, Cumberland Chapter #56 Order of the Eastern Star, and was an inactive member of the Historical Society.
She received a special citation from the National Council of Teachers of English for her work in teaching English.
She taught at the Elmer Wolf School in Union Bridge for 16 years, one year at Hancock, and 13 years at Flintstone. She retired from teaching in 1982.
Survivors include special cousins Ruby Shriver, and husband, Donald, Flintstone, Frieda Smith, and husband, Paul, Little Orleans, Merle Bible, and wife, Mabel, Flintstone, Julia Winifred Sparling, Kokomo, Ind., Eleanor Willis, and husband, Larry, and Ferris Clark, all of Valley Center, Calif., and many Bender and Twigg cousins, and many friends.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Flintstone United Methodist Church. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
Interment will follow in the Odd Fellows cemetery, Flintstone.
Cumberland Chapter #56 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct services on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
CATHY ANN LIPSCOMB
GRANTSVILLE - Cathy Ann Lipscomb, 35, of 4093 National Pike, Grantsville, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born May 10, 1962, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was the daughter of Blaine E. "Pete," and Helen V. (McKenzie) Resh, Grantsville.
She was employed as a service person for Flushing Shirt Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Lipscomb was a member of Saint Ann's Catholic Church. She was a member of the Northern High School Class of 1980, and loved doing ceramics and reading. She was devoted to her family.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Donnie Lipscomb; twin daughters, Morgan Ann and Megan Lee, at home; a brother, Wayne Resh, Grantsville; her father and mother-in-law, Harold and "Boots" Lipscomb, Grantsville; paternal grandmother-in-law, Blanche Lipscomb, French Creek, W.Va.; maternal grandmother-in-law, Isabel Messersmith, Cresaptown; and a nephew, Michael E. Resh.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at Saint Ann's Catholic Church with the Rev. William Moody officiating. Rosary will be recited Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
Interment will be in Grantsville cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Keister, Larry Fadeley, Rodney McKenzie, Regis McKenzie, Darren McKenzie and Mark McKenzie, all cousins.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
MILDRED E. LITZ
CUMBERLAND - Mildred Elizabeth Litz, 84, formerly of 504 Bedford St., Cumberland, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at Devlin Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 8, 1914, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late George E. Linton and the late Katie (Washington) Linton. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Calbert George Litz, in 1967.
Mrs. Litz was a former security guard and a street car operator.
Surviving are four daughters, Mary Ellen Stiles, and husband, Jack, Auburndale, Fla., Ruth Anna Vance, and friend, Rick Davis, Flintstone, Edna Carol Thomas, and husband, Harvey, Charlotte, N.C., and Peggy Snidow, and husband, James, Roanoke, Va.; a brother, Edward Linton, Baltimore; a sister, Lillian Koerber, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Baltimore National cemetery.
