HELEN "SHIRLEY" HARMAN
WRIGHTS CROSSING - Helen "Shirley" Harman, 62, of Wrights Crossing, Frostburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 18, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Oct. 26, 1935, in Midlothian, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Pearl (Whitehead) Seggie. She also was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Keith Paul Harman and Megan Ashley Harman.
Mrs. Harman was retired from the Housekeeping Department of Frostburg State University. She was Protestant by faith and enjoyed spending her time with, and taking care of, her family - especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Paul L. Harman; two sons, Terry Allen Harman and wife Darlene, Union Bridge, and Keith Paul Harman and wife JoAnn, Frostburg; two grandchildren, Terry Allen Harman II and Eric Mark Harman; one great-granddaughter, Lori Ann Harman; three brothers, Charles Seggie, Baltimore, Harry Seggie, Frostburg, and Lloyd Seggie, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sisters, Mary Leptic, Wrights Crossing, Sarah Loar and Donna "Deanie" Cutter, both of Midlothian; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating. Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Terry Allen Harman II, John "Flick" Leptic, Johnny Leptic, Michael Leptic, Joey Cutter, Gary Loar and Hugh Speir. Honorary pallbearer will be Eric Harman.

LEONA L. HARPER
CRESAPTOWN - Leona L. Harper, 73, of Cresaptown, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born April 18, 1924, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob H. and Cora C. (Bittinger) Miller. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Miller; and one sister, Bernice Beckman.
Mrs. Harper was a homemaker. She was a former employee of the Celanese Corp., Cumberland. She was a member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, and an avid bingo player.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth J. Harper; one daughter, Barbara L. Morgan, Barton, N.Y.; one son, James H. Harper and wife Barbara, Bowling Green, Cumberland; two sisters, Helen Shaffer and husband Robert, Cresaptown, and Betty Sweigert, Potomac Park; one brother, Paul Miller and wife Peggy, Cresaptown; three grandchildren, Scott R. Morgan and fiancee Elizabeth Clevenger, Athens, Pa., Elizabeth A. Harper, Bowling Green, and Robert J. Harper, Bowling Green; and one sister-in-law, Wilda Miller, Cresaptown.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
BERNARD A. HARRIS
CUMBERLAND - Bernard A. Harris, 90, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Sept. 6, 1908, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George and Frances (Lynch) Harris. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche M. (Rowe) Harris, in 1986; one son, Bernard R. Harris; five brothers, George, Frank, Leo, Earl and Edward Harris; one sister, Eleanor Moore; and one grandson, Richard Harris.
Mr. Harris was a truck driver for C.D. Kenney Food Wholesale, Monarch Finer Foods, and Harris Motors. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He was involved in church bingos at SS. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and Bishop Walsh Middle/High School. He was a volunteer grounds keeper for SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Secretary/Treasurer for Teamsters Local #453 for 35 years, and a member of the Cumberland Eagles Aerie #245. He was an avid bowler who was a member of several bowling leagues at the Capital Bowling Lanes on Virginia Avenue.
Surviving are three sons, George Harris and wife, Dolores, Middletown, Charles Harris and wife, Donna, James Harris and wife, Cathy, all of Cumberland; two brothers, Eugene Harris, Cresaptown, Paul Harris, Havre de Grace; two sisters, Edith Thompson, Baltimore, Lucille Bridges, Cumberland; seven grandchildren, Catherine Resnick and husband Steven, Bowie, Sandra Sumner and husband Kimmey, Odenton, Patrick Harris, Crofton, Lois Burnette and husband, Gary, Cumberland, Deborah O'Brien and husband, John, Laurel, Bernard Harris, Columbia, James Harris and wife, Michelle, Cumberland; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap., as celebrant.
Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
VIRGINIA KNIPPENBERG
CUMBERLAND - Virginia June Knippenberg, 80, of 544 Eastern Ave., Cumberland, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Oct. 7, 1917, in Davis, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Howard Lafferty and the late Effie (Beavers) Lafferty. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Richard George Knippenberg, in January 1981.
Mrs. Knippenberg was a member of Elliott United Methodist Church and the Elliott United Methodist Church Homemakers.
Surviving are three sons, George R. Knippenberg and wife, Louise, Charles E. Knippenberg and wife, Cecelia, and John L. Knippenberg and wife, Janet, all of Cumberland; two brothers, Robert C. Lafferty, and William Lafferty, Cumberland; a sister, Betty Lafferty, Cumberland; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Diana Smith officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
EVELYN K. HARRIS
HAMPTON, Va. - Evelyn K. Harris, 88, a native of Cumberland, Md., died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998, in Hampton.
She was the daughter of the late John L. and Sarah F. Kerns. Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Harris.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Sally K. Printer of Georgia, Gwen K. Little of West Virginia, Nancy K. Stone of North Carolina, Erik L. Kerns of South Carolina and Dolores K. Davis with whom she resided in Hampton; and 11 great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland, Wednesday at 1 p.m. by the Rev. George Stone.
The family wishes in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the donor's local Shriners organization.
Services are being provided by the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton.
CUMBERLAND - Ernest "Sonny" Porterfield Jordan III, 45, of 13320 Uhl Highway, SE, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord when he passed away at his home, Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998.
Born March 26, 1953, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ernest Porterfield Jordan II and the late Hazel (Thomas) Jordan.
Mr. Jordan was a master plumber and graphic designer for Frostburg State University. He also was active in the Staff Senate at Frostburg State University. He was a member of Cumberland Eagles Aerie 245 and Bitter Sweet Publications.
A beloved father, friend and husband, he is survived by his wife, Roberta Sue (Mason) Jordan, Cumberland; two daughters, Emily Stacey Jordan and Alison Tracy Jordan, at home; two sisters, Denise Thatcher and husband Wes, and Kerry Stiltner, all of Baltimore; an aunt, Helen Sickler, Baltimore; four nephews; two nieces; a mother-in-law, Esther Mason, Cumberland; two sisters-in-law, Esther Mallow and husband Cletus, Cumberland, and Sandra Donahoe and husband Royce, Flintstone; and a brother-in-law, James Mason, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Sister Marietta and Sister Joan officiating.

RUTH F. LOHR "AUNT PUDGIE"
LAVALE - Ruth Friend Lohr, "Aunt Pudgie," 94, of LaVale, died on Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, in Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was born May 13, 1904, in Swanton, the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Martha Virginia (Friend) Sweitzer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mahlon Carlton Lohr; three brothers; and five sisters.
Mrs. Lohr was a member of LaVale United Methodist Church and Woodmen of the World. In her early years she taught elementary school in Garrett County and had worked at the Queen City Glass Company. She then became a housewife.
She is survived by her daughter, Winifred Pile and husband, Jay, of LaVale; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the LaVale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bernadette Ross, assisted by the Rev. Richard Chambers. Mrs. Lohr's body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will follow in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
