LAURA BELLE FRANTZ
FRIENDSVILLE - Laura Belle Frantz, 85, of 1048 Glade Rd., Friendsville, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Henry Clay Villa, Markleysburg, Pa.
Born Aug. 21, 1912, in Sabraton, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Edward B. and Emma (Titchenell) Thornburg. Mrs. Frantz was a member of Asher Glade Church of the Brethren and the ladies aid. When the regular pianist moved away, she started playing piano for the church at age 12 and continued for many decades. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and treasurer.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, James Lloyd Frantz, whom she married on Sept. 27, 1930, at Frank Fike Gate; three sons, James R. Frantz, Friendsville, Gary W. Frantz, Grantsville, and Donald E. Frantz, Waldorf; two daughters, Barbara E. Andria, Smithfield, Pa., and Linda S. Miller, Finksburg; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted on Monday at 1 p.m. at Asher Glade Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Donald Matthews and the Rev. Kenny Dolan officiating. Interment will be in the Asher Glade cemetery.

RUTH FREDERICK
CUMBERLAND - Ruth (McCarty) Frederick, 73, of 13321 Mason Road, NE, Cumberland, departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Scared Heart Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is now at peace and ready to start her new life with our Lord.
Born May 26, 1925, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Barney S. McCarty and the late Viola (Johnson) McCarty. She also was preceded in death by her twins, LeRoy Earl Jr. and Virginia Lee, who died shortly after birth; and a nephew, Robert McCarty, whom she raised as her own.

Mrs. Frederick was a former resident of Bowling Green and a lifelong resident of Cumberland. She was an active member of Zion United Methodist Church, Bedford Road, and a member of the Women of the Moose.

She leaves cherished memories for her devoted husband of 53 years, LeRoy Earl Frederick, Cumberland; two sons, Donald Frederick and wife Patricia, Hampton, Va., and David Frederick and wife Darlene, Keyser, W.Va.; a niece and a nephew, Patricia (McCarty) McLaughlin, Cumberland, and John McCarty and wife Barbara, Dover, Del., whom she raised as her own; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Frederick and wife Sidney, Newport News, Va., Allan Frederick, Newport News, David Frederick Jr. and wife Valerie, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Twila Davis and husband Jeramie, Decatur, Neb., Heather McMillan, Lyons, Neb., Crystal and Christopher McLaughlin, Cumberland, and Courtney and Melynda McCarty, Dover; seven great-grandchildren, Brooke, Jason, Sierra, Sarah, Ryan, Joshua and Cheyene; four sisters, Mary (McCarty) Beeghly, Viola (McCarty) Mummert, Beatrice (McCarty) Mitchell and husband Nathan, all of Cumberland, and Dorothy (McCarty) Mercer, St. Joseph, Ill.; three brothers, John McCarty and wife Lois, Holly Hill, Fla., Bernard McCarty and wife Joyce, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Barney McCarty and wife Brenda, Cumberland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by all who know and love her.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at Zion United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Edward Dickel officiating.

Pallbearers will be members of the Zion United Methodist Church.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ruth's name to the American Cancer Society or to Zion United Methodist Church.

The family also will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church.

JOHN R. "JACK" HUTZELL
FROSTBURG - John R. "Jack" Hutzell, 77, of Frostburg, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 18, 1920, in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Elmer and Effie (Golden) Hutzell. He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Hutzell, Sr., Olan R. Hutzell and Charles Hutzell; and one sister, Dora Dickel.

Mr. Hutzell attended Midlothian Assembly of God Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He also was Trial Magistrate of Mount Savage for 11« years, a member of Cumberland Eagles, the American Legion Farrady Post #24, Operating Engineers, was a Democratic candidate for House of Delegates in 1962, a member of Mount Savage Historical Society, and was inducted in the Mount Savage Hall of Honor.

Surviving are two sisters, Elsie Bryant, Hyndman, Pa., and Elva Shanor, Florala, Ala.; two sisters-in-law, Betty Hutzell, Streetsboro, Ohio, and Effie Hughes, Mount Savage; a number of nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and a special friend, Alta Piercy, Frostburg.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.

Interment will be in the Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military rites will be accorded by Farrady Post #24 American Legion.

LAWRENCE R. HOCKMAN
ACCIDENT - Lawrence R. Hockman, 70, of 3810 Cove Road, Accident, died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 25, 1927, at Accident, he was a son of the late Harry and Clara Ellen (Crawford) Hockman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine (Hunter) Hockman; and a son, Donald Hockman, both in 1996.

Mr. Hockman was a retired 40-year member of Operative Plasterers & Cement Masons, and was a member of State Line United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Accident Post 208, American Legion.

Surviving are two sons, Ronald R. Hockman Sr., Accident, and Dean A. Hockman, Grantsville; a brother, Clarence Hockman, Fresno, Calif.; 13 half-brothers and sisters; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Oren Bender and the Rev. Brenda Shreve officiating. Interment will be in St. John's cemetery, Route 219. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.

SARAH J. JENKINS
CUMBERLAND - Sarah Jeanette Jenkins, 89, of Magnolia Court, Cumberland, died Saturday, April 25, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 26, 1909, in Cumberland, the daughter of the late John H. Morris and Beulah (Norris) Morris.

She is survived by her husband, Leroy R. Jenkins; one daughter, Jeanette Lee Layman and husband, Gary, Cumberland; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bernadette M. Ross officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Summers, Steve Layman, Richard Geiger, Gary Geiger, Mike Powelson and John Stewart.

GEORGE A. HOCHARD
FINZEL - George Albert Hochard, 77, a resident of the Moran Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Finzel, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 4, 1920, in Salisbury, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence A. Hochard and Edna (Schramm) Hochard Werner. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Roselen "Boots" (Hughes) Hochard; and one brother, Bert Werner.

Mr. Hochard was employed by Sleeman's Lumber of Frostburg for 30 years. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church; and member and past governor of Frostburg Moose Lodge 348, and held the Fellowship Degree. He served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre.

Surviving are two sons, William J. Hochard and wife Carolyn, Short Gap, W.Va., and Clarence F. Hochard and wife Beverly, Finzel; six grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Werner, Salisbury, Pa., and Earl Werner, Meyersdale, Pa.; and two sisters, Mary Murray, Somerset, Pa., and Margie Shuck, Meyersdale, Pa.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Moose Lodge 348 will hold a service at 8 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

JOHN J. FRICK III
LAVALE - John J. Frick III, 62, of LaVale, formerly of Baltimore, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 8, 1936, in Baltimore, he was the son of Kathryn (Bell) Frick, Baltimore, and the late John J. Frick Jr.

Mr. Frick was a retired buyer for Proctor & Gamble Company, Baltimore. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown.

In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife, Josephine Eleanor (Snyder) Frick; one daughter, Agnes Anna Parsons, and husband, David, Baltimore; three sons, Timothy Jude Frick, John J. Frick IV, and Thomas Albert Frick, all at home; one sister, Sheila Frick Bender, and husband, Charles, Baltimore; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Parsons, Kimberly Parsons and David Parsons Jr.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Reginald Russo, O.F.M., Cap. as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Ambrose cemetery.
