DELBERT C. LEESE, SR.
FROSTBURG - Delbert Clay Leese, Sr., 70, of 3011 Old Frostburg Road, Frostburg, (Garrett County), died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998, at his residence.
Born March 21, 1927, at Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Bernard M. Leese and Viola (Whitacre) Leese. He was preceded in death by one son, David Leese.

Mr. Leese was a member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church and was retired from the Columbia Gas Company after 45 years' service as a Leakage Inspector. He was a member of the Utility Workers Union of America, Local 419; Allegany County Mountain Beekeepers Association, and the Frostburg and Grantsville Lions Clubs. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a former member of the American Legion and V.F.W., Cumberland; the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 9, Explorer Troop 9, Cresaptown.

Surviving are his wife, Martha J. (Fratz) Leese; a step-mother, Erma Leese, Frostburg; two sons, Delbert Clay Leese Jr., Frostburg, and James Craig Leese, Fort Knox, Ky.; a daughter, Linda Viola Underwood, Abingdon; two brothers, Bernard Leese, Silver Spring, and Rex Leese, Frostburg; and six grandchildren, Anja Underwood, Michelle Godfrey, Brian Lohr, Eric Leese, Andrew Leese and Jared Leese.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 6, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Harold McClay officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran cemetery, Accident.

Pallbearers will be, Walter Crawford, Ronald Barb, Jerry Rice, Bob Hite, Mark Leese, Barry Leese, Ryan Leese and Eric Leese.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Lohr, Andrew Leese and Jared Leese.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, to Zion Lutheran Church, or to the American Diabetes Association.

RAPHAEL H. "RAY" GRABENSTEIN
CUMBERLAND - Raphael H. "Ray" Grabenstein, 89, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born April 19, 1909, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George H. and Catherine (Detterman) Grabenstein. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth A. (Benson) Grabenstein; two sisters, Hilda Rose, Viola Grabenstein; and one brother, Alphonsus Grabenstein.

Mr. Grabenstein was a truck driver for Cumberland Concrete. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Surviving are four sisters, Almeda Milkowski, Margaret Wolford, both of Cumberland, Sr. Georgine Grabenstein, O.U.S., Louisville, Ky., and Veronica Hoover, Cumberland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

JAMES L. KRAUS
FROSTBURG - James Leon Kraus, age 72, of 21 Frost Ave., Frostburg, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at his residence.
Born April 8, 1926, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George W. and Leota (Spangler) Kraus. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Kraus and Robert Kraus; and one sister, Naomi Ralston. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Kraus was a retired conductor and brakeman for the B&O; Railroad and was a member of the United Transportation Union. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Laura (Read) Kraus; one daughter, Janice D. Kraus, Silver Spring; two sisters-in-law, Mary Kraus and Lucille Kraus, both of Cumberland; one nephew, Ralph C. Kraus Jr., and wife, Lynda, Carpendale, W.Va.; one niece, Judy Hall, and husband, Rick, Cumberland; two great nieces, Jenny Lynd Kraus and Molly Marie Kraus; and one great-nephew, Daniel Hull.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Staupe officiating.

Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.

The family requests memorials be directed to the Western Maryland Hospice or to St. John's Episcopal Church Building Fund.

DONALD J. HOLLEN
BURTONSVILLE - Donald J. Hollen, 54, of Burtonsville, formerly of Cumberland, died on Monday, July 27, 1998, at the Greater Laurel Hospital in Laurel.
He was the son of Mary Jane Hollen and the late Edgar L. Hollen Sr. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert L. Hollen, and sister D. Gayle Stevens.

Mr. Hollen was a retired police captain of the Riverdale Police Department. He was a 1962 graduate of LaSalle High School in Cumberland.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Elayne E. (Morigi) Hollen; a son, Jon de Paul Hollen. Also surviving are two sisters, Jane L. Snyder and Denise M. Wilson, of Cumberland; a brother, Edgar L. Hollen Jr., of Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a viewing on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, 3315 Greencastle Road, Burtonsville. Interment will be on Friday at Fort Lincoln.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Church of the Resurrection or to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, 603 E Street N.W., Washington, DC 20004.

KENNETH W. LAWRENCE
CUMBERLAND - Kenneth Wayne Lawrence, 58, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 17, 1939, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Iva (Twigg) Kinser. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Patty Imes; and one brother, Jerry Kinser.

Mr. Lawrence was retired from the Carling Brewing Company of Baltimore, and he was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra Jean (Champ) Lawrence; two sons, Michael W. Lawrence and wife, Tracey, Brian S. Lawrence; one brother, Dennis Kinser, all of Cumberland; and one sister, Joyce Butts, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 12 to 1 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Chaplain Lewis Twigg officiating. Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans cemetery, Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

EDGAR A. "FOXIE" FOX
WESTERNPORT - Edgar A. "Foxie" Fox, 66, of 206 Quality St., Westernport, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born Oct. 24, 1931, in Luke, he was the son of the late James Edward Fox and the late Edna Myrtle (Bradford) Fox. He also was preceded in death by a grandson, Steve Fox.

Mr. Fox was retired from the Westvaco Corp. with 39 years of service, having worked in lubrication maintenance. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having been an MP stationed in Germany.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va.; a life member of Victory Post 155 American Legion; and a member of Queens Point VFW 6775, McCoole.

Mr. Fox was a loving husband to Audrey (Ashcraft) Fox; and a devoted father to one son, Ronnie Fox and wife Kim, Winchester, Va., and one daughter, Cindy Peirce and husband George, Oakton, Va. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Ron Fox Jr., Fort Campbell, Ky., David Fox, Keyser, and Alex Peirce, Oakton; and one step-grandson, Justin Bayliss, Winchester.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Boal Funeral Home on Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Jarrett officiating.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, where full military honors will be accorded at graveside by the combined veterans organizations.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad or the American Diabetes Association.

MARY E. LAYMAN
BILLINGS, Mont. - Mary Elnor Layman, 74, wife of Malcolm J. Layman Sr., died Sept. 14, 1998, in Billings after a long illness.
Surviving are a daughter, Marjorie A. MacLachlan and husband, Edward and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Layman was preceded in death by a son, Malcolm J. Layman Jr. and her husband, Malcolm J. Layman Sr.

Mary E. Layman was cremated at Dahl Funeral Chapel.
